okay so i watched the episodes the other day (ngl i did fall asleep towards the end and i think i may have slept through a whole episode before watching the last one?) so here are my thoughts.

i don’t like the 10 episodes a season format anymore. there’s just no more time to build up character development or strong, fleshed-out plots (unless they span it across multiple episodes) because each episode is a new character’s storyline (with the exception of other character’s storylines falling to subplots in the episodes, which in itself can be too much or annoying sometimes). how do you fit all of that in 10 episodes while simultaneously trying to send off the seniors in a good, “this feels time” kind of way? you don’t. you can’t.

idk guys this season just felt so rushed to me, and for a show whose last season was spectacular, whose last season did have one underlying plot that built up intensity and affected more than one character? idk it was disappointing. not that every season has to be great or amazing, and i’m not saying i completely hated it (i loved yael’s plot and hope they continue to build that) but the way they sent off those teens and paired off rando couples for this last season was just not what i remember degrassi to be and i hope they can pull it together in the future (maybe lengthen the episode times or make longer seasons?)

real talk high school was just a really meh experience for me and annoying a lot of the time. 

college was so much better.

and being an adult is just routines with no homework and you’re tired all the time but you still grind to make money.

Grace Cardinal

I think season 4 should do an arch where Grace tries to date Jonah because it’s clear she likes him but struggles when it comes to the physical relationship. She loves his personality but for some reason she doesn’t feel the sexual attraction. She then realises that she did romantically like Zoe too but when they had a physical relationship, she presumed her lack of attraction to it meant she was straight. Grace discovers asexuality and finds out the struggles of a relationship in that form with either Zoe or Jonah. Eventually forming a strong romantic bond with one of them after a few episodes of them trying to understand it’s affect on relationships and how they can still have one that is both healthy and romantic with less physical aspects.

It would be a great transition for the character and would explain a lot of what many interpreted as queerbaiting in DlB. Grace’s feelings towards the few characters we have witnessed have always been people she’s close with platonically- Zig, Zoe, Jonah. And a lot of her development has always shown her although being okay with hearing about physical exploits/relationships , she doesn’t seem particularly secure with experiencing them herself and I possibly think Zoe was the first person grace tried sex with. It’s possible her hesitance for sex is an impact of her distrust of her illness however, it seems very different from that as both Zoe and Jonah she opened up very quickly too in a platonic form and even showed in DlB that she could be flirty and comfortable with relationships that involved handholding, hugging and nonsexual physicality.

It would be a great opportunity for a developed asexual character on such a great platform, aimed at younger adults and teens. Also a great place to show that romantic relationships can still form without sex- Jonah’s storyline in avoiding his addictive personality and past mistakes may fit perfectly with this. The baseline development is there for the writers to have grace be asexual, I think it would be a shame to waste such a positive and educational storyline when you have a character that is well liked and developed enough already for it to not seem false or unrealistic.

Also, the height difference for these two is so iconic - which means it was taking me forever to draw since I kept wanting to fix the size and had to keep reminding myself ‘oh, right, I’m not making a mistake, they’re just that kind of ship’
