Fic Writer Ask Game--Accepting!

Daena's hecking journey, good GRIEF--it's there, 5 chapters out of 6! But unfortunately, the chapter that's missing is Chapter 3, smack in the middle. I'm having the worst time connecting the beginning with the end. It's been in progress for a year now. I just want it done. I need to find the thing that gives me the flow state for Daena like cheese and trundling-hand-cart sounds got the the flow state for Armaiti XD
I have two pre-game fics narrated by Rashnu also in progress (one druid-era, one his Shadwood days) and would love to have them done too--but considering I was trying to get the druid journeys done by November for the 20th anniversary, I feel like I can't work on the pre-game stuff til I get the journeys done. But maybe I should just sit down with Rashnu or Vohu and knock something out so I remember that I can do this, actually. I miss my familiar narrators favorites.

Uh, well--following the above, probably either Eithera's or Vata's journey, because I am honestly not any more confident in writing them than I was in writing Daena's XD Vata, in particular, I am braced for a hard time with, and it would be nice to cash in my magic Write The Thing! on the one that I anticipate being the most difficult.

I'm looking forward to trying Eithera for the first time! Daena has been an exercise in an extremely thoughtful, mellow narrator--almost too thoughtful and mellow, in a way that Rashnu isn't. Eithera will be a nice change of pace.
🥳 How are you going to celebrate when you achieve one of your writing goals?
When I finish the druid journeys, I'm planning to bind them! I got a piece of paper for the endpapers a couple years back that reminded me of the Aveyond title screen, and it's been laying in wait ever since. I might try out a leather (or faux leather) cover for it too--I've never done one full-size, only tiny XD

💖 What is your primary writing goal for this year?
To finish "The Road From There To Here," the series of fics about Rhen's journeys with the druids on her quest to return them to Aveyond! ...But I believe I said the same thing last year, so uh. We'll see. But unlike last year, this year is Aveyond's 20th anniversary, and I would really love to have them done in celebration!
🍄 Are there any fandoms you've never written for but want to try?
Not really! I'm really slow to get into fandoms, and filler fic is possibly the part of fandom that brings me the most joy, so it's pretty rare that I find myself in a fandom I want to write for but for some reason, don't.
Characters within a fandom are another story. Occasionally I drag my heels and waffle over whether I'll do them justice, or sometimes straight-up just question my own taste. And then I finally do it anyways, and always have an absolute blast. Looking at you, Deep Blue--of all the Arcadion characters I could have gotten the character depth shovel out for, it had to be the surfers.
🫘 Spill the beans. What's a new project you're doing this year?
Nothing planned, writing-wise! I rarely plan big writing projects, I like the joy of the inspiration when it strikes. The only reason the druid journey series was any semblance of long-term planned is because there was guaranteed to be a specific number of them--but even so, somehow, I managed to squeeze in one extra last year XD
I'm also going to do XIVWrite again, because I love XIVWrite. The external motivation to write one something a day really does feel like it helps when I get in a slump!

1: favorite fic you wrote this year
This is a seriously hard question, because I really enjoyed all of the fics I wrote this year XD I think Armaiti's "Bloom in Adversity" is probably the winner, but not by a very wide margin!
(While I did publish Rashnu's "Oaths and Ordeals" this year, but it was written almost entirely last year so I'm not counting it.)
12: favorite character to write about this year
I think it would have to be Vohu, between the Aveyond and XIV settings. Honorable mentions to Rashnu (obviously), Armaiti, and a surprise Elini! In non-Aveyond news, I've been having a great time writing Deryk from XIV.
Not the question, but least favorite character to write this year is absolutely Dameon. Good lord. Amanda really gave us hard mode by telling us who the traitor was up front, it's SO HARD to make it read naturally! I wanted to make Dameon more than a cardboard cutout on a popsicle stick, but uh. Turns out, when you're the thrall of a powerful demon...you kind of are a cardboard cutout on a popsicle stick.
18: current number of wips
I can only think of two that are seeing any actual work! "On Dusk and Dawn (In the Blackest Night)" and "[Daena's Journey]" I had really hoped to finish Daena's journey this year, but boy it is kicking my butt--it's hard to write road trip fic about a road trip that short, and she's almost too efficient as a narrator. She'd be better at informative instructions than entertaining prose XD
(This is not counting things like "Pair of Traveling Bards.doc," because that's not even pretending to be a piece that'll be finished and polished and published. That's an intentionally-forever wip where I write for fun.)
