Whumptober ‘21 - (Presumed Dead) Day 9
All right, I was looking back at a WIP I am working on for my new obsession, The Untamed (MDZS) and thought I would share a scene for whumptober as I am loving everybody else’s things on here.
A little background. In this story, Lan Xichen is captured shortly after eaving Cloud Recesses, so is there during the Indoctrination. This happens after the Wens escape the Tortoise Cave.
The door opened and Lan Xichen was surprised to see Wen Chao enter, instead of Wangji. He looked around for him and Wen Chao seemed to notice.
“Oh, Lan Wangji won’t be able to visit you today, Lan-zongzhu.”
“Why?” Lan Xichen asked, his mind already filled with worst case scenarios.
“We went on an unexpected night-hunt today to go after a vicious beast that was terrorizing nearby towns. We got there and the fight was fierce. After killing the beast, the other clan started a coup where I had to flee for my own safety.” Wen Chao was enjoying this a little too much. He was trying to see if he could get a reaction from the normally diplomatic Zewu-Jun. He’s seen a lot of sides to the First Jade since he has been here and wanted some more fun, especially needing a pick me up his pride took because of Wei Wuxian’s little tirade. Darn him!
“And Wangji?” Lan Xichen asked anxiously.
“Well I got out and came home, but reports have said that they saw disciples from the Jin and Jiang clans escape out a side hole before the hole collapsed on itself. I plan to go back in a couple days when things have settled to grab the corpse of the creature and present it to my father.”
Lan Xichen looked shocked. Wen Chao decided to rub it in a little bit more. “I have no idea if your brother or Wei Wuxian made it out, but Jiang-gonzi seemed desperate and lost when he got out. Reports say he kept trying to go back in and disciples had to pull him away.”
No! It can’t be. Not Wangji as well...What did I do in a past life to deserve this? What did Wangji do?
“I am sorry for your loss, Lan Xichen. Truly.”
“Get out!” Lan Xichen growled, standing up and pulling on his chains. “I don’t want your fake pity."
Wen Chao started to open his mouth but found it mysteriously closed.
"Get. OUT." Lan Xichen growled again.
A gust of wind howled through the open window and blew the Wens off balance.
Wen Chao hurriedly bowed in exit and the doors closed. Lan Xichen’s legs wobbled and he collapsed to the floor in a resounding thud.
“Wangji…” he whispered. “Please don’t let it be true. Not this soon after F..Father. I…I can’t lose anybody else.” He lost the battle and tears started streaming down his face, followed by sobs. He cried himself to sleep that night, his little brother’s name on his lips.
