So idk how many people know this, but when you're a severe alcoholic, going 'cold turkey' can legitimately kill you. Withdrawls from things like alcohol and opioids are no joke.
Leon was definitely still slightly drunk through the entirety of Vendetta. There's no way he wasn't. He had an entire bottle finished by mid-day, and speaking as an alcoholic in recovery, you don't drink like that if you haven't been doing it for a while. There's absolutely no way he would've been able to go dry, he would be in the hospital. So yeah, Leon was still, at the very least, a little drunk while doing ALL THAT!
Its making me think about how in a RE comic/novel set after those events Chris apparently comes to talk to him and help him and they talk about being similar and shit and I can't help but to imagine Chris being there for Leon through withdrawls. He's weening himself off fast, he needs to, and he can't check in anywhere because he'll never ever hear the end of it with the DSO.
So his option is to ride it out, and he was going to do it alone, but there Chris is. Its fucking miserable, and Leon is deeply ashamed and embarassed and he hates every second, but he's never appreciated anyone's presence more.

"Hey maybe you guys can adopt me!" Those were Sherry's words as they made their way outside out of the destroyed rubble. They had been through a lot : After the long journey of fighting off infected civilians in Raccoon City and the underground bunker collapsing on them -- to say they were beaten up was a rough understatement. Leon looked worse for wear.
His shoulder was patched up with white bandages, blood staining the fabric that was now dried up. Their outfits were torn and filthy. Y/n felt like she was gonna collapse with exhaustion, the faint stinging of cuts and lacerations the furthest thing from her mind right now.
"Adopt?!" Leon asked incredulously -- as if the words from Sherry were just NOW registering with him. "I don't know about that..." He was about to protest when Y/n shot him a look and Sherry -- who was looking up at him with those puppy eyes.
The poor girl. She had been through a lot .. had no family but Leon and his girlfriend.
"I don't know if adoption is even relevant considering the state of Raccoon City," Leon tried to joke as they walked down the dirt road.
"I don't see that as a no though," Y/n spoke up. Leon was unsure -- but Sherry and his girlfriend were hoping and he just couldn't crush their hopes.

"What about this?" Leon asked holding up a dress that had a cute frog design on the front. "Leon she's 12 -- she's not 6," Y/n spoke up with a chuckle. "What's wrong with frogs?" Leon asked with a huff. "Frogs are cute." Y/n shook her head. "They are but she's still 12 babe. It's cute but how about we go for something else?" She asked. Leon pouted -- gave his girlfriend the puppy eyes. "I'll wear it!" Sherry spoke up, being the mediator. "It makes you happy so I'll wear it," Sherry responded. The way Leon's face brightened up made Y/n smile fondly.
girl dad leon - Sherry needed to be educated. Leon didn't trust anyone or anything so he taught her himself. Leon sat at the table, studying Sherry's homework that his girlfriend came up with. It was basic multiplication -- but Leon was ashamed to admit he still had to use his fingers sometimes to count. "What's 8 times 8?" Sherry asked him. Leon's brain blanked -- and he quickly went through all of his math skills, remembering the rhymes that he was taught in elementary school. "You don't know do you?" sherry asked, which made Leon flush. "Yes I do," He replied back. "It's 64." His girlfriend came out of the kitchen. "that took you an embarrassingly long time babe," She replied, which only made Leon feel MORE embarrassed.

It was all worth it in the end : "Look what I drew," Sherry spoke up handing Leon a badly hand drawn picture in crayons. Leon took it from Sherry and looked at it. It was a family portrait : The picture had Leon poorly drawn in a police uniform , holding hands with Sherry and on the other side of the Sherry was a poorly drawn Y/n -- who was also smiling. It was a family photo. "It's cute sweetheart. Let's put this on the fridge so I can admire it all the time," Leon replied with a smile.
girl dad Leon - "Honey I don't know how to do this," Leon told his girlfriend with a flush as he sat behind Sherry running a brush through her soft blonde hair. He was trying to do her hair for the day -- and he was poorly trying to braid her hair because Sherry wanted a braid today. The problem? He didn't know how to braid to save his life. Y/n smiled and walked to the living room to see Sherry's hair tangled in knots. "It's alright babe you'll get the hang of it," She reassured as she fixed Leon's mistakes.

The government decided to send her to their own version of school -- so when the instructor asked to meet Sherry's parents, both Leon and Y/n showed up with pride. The look on the teacher's face was priceless. "You two are her parents?" the teacher asked incredulously. "but you two are so young!" Leon and Y/n glanced at each other. "We know but I'm sherry's dad" Leon replied proudly. He felt like a real dad attending parent-teacher conferences for Sherry.

She walked into the living room -- only to find Leon and Sherry curled up against one another. Leon was passed out on the coach , sleeping soundly while Sherry laid on his chest curled up against his neck. Leon's arm was wrapped loosely around Sherry's waist -- like he was protecting her even in his sleep. It made her heart melt. Y/n draped a blanket over them and pressed a kiss against their foreheads.
girl dad Leon - who beamed with pride the first time Sherry had called him 'dad' . It was unexpected. Leon was trying to cook lunch for them , just some grilled cheeses - while Sherry colored in her coloring book. "dad can I have a grilled cheese now?" Sherry asked. Leon's heart raced in his chest, and warmth spread through him. She just called him dad for the first time. Leon couldn't help but puff out his chest in pride - because yeah he WAS sherry's father -- there was no doubt about it. "Of course you can sweetheart," Leon replied. He pressed a kiss against Sherry's head and handed her a grilled cheese and looked at his girlfriend. "You hear that? She called me dad," Leon boasted. It made Y/n smile.
Girl dad Leon - who came home after a particularly cruel mission. He was upset -- tired - and just wanted sleep. Sherry ran up to Leon wearing his old police vest that she had found. "What are you wearing sweetheart?" Leon asked softly. Sherry smile. "I found your old police vest. I want to be an officer just like you one day," She replied. It made Leon's heart melt and he couldn't resist picking up Sherry to hold in his arms. "You'll make a great officer one day dear," Leon reassured. Just the fact that Sherry looked up to him like some kind of hero made Leon realize he was still special and important -- that he hadn't changed. "The vest looks nice on you."
finally girl dad Leon - who kept a family picture in his pocket, tucked close to his chest. It was a picture of Y/n Sherry and Leon -- they were all smiling in the photo -- sherry's arms draped around Leon's arms from behind. The pictured made Leon realize that despite the cruel world they lived in, and despite his trauma with Raccoon City, he could find genuine happiness. The picture gave him a reason to come home every evening -- so he can kiss his girlfriend and take care of their daughter together. It made all the harsh missions worth it.
