File Sharing Discourse Audience

The discourse audience for my research project would be the people that partake in file sharing a.k.a. piracy. This is a wide range of people including hackers, college students, or any number of randoms. Generally these people consider it to be "file sharing" instead of piracy. It makes it seem less illegal. They also use multiple terms in their community to talk about what is being done and these terms are seeding, leeching, torrents, etc. The social norms are that if it exists it can be found on the internet. They don't necessarily take it to be cheap but because they are interested in acquiring it quickly or because they want to sample it. Their values include being able to share content with each other without limitations. They hold the beliefs that they should be able to share files freely without having to worry about hefty punishments.

Rhetorical situation on the web.

As internet users we have so much freedom to make decisions on what we post or what we are able to look up. A rhetorical situations that involves this is when the government tries to pass laws such as SOPA or CISPA to control the internet. This could be defined as a rhetorical situation by Ervin because the situation of them trying to pass the laws could be changed and the can be changed through how language is used. Fellow internet users can stand up to the government in various of ways.

This law is a great idea to help prevent FAS. It would help them see if they are pregnant or not. One of the flaws I see in this article though is that the lawmaker is making an assumption that woman that carry babies with FASD are to be found in bars. If we are going to do this with bars shouldn't we do this with liquor stores also? We shouldn't assume that woman that carry FASD children only come from the public sphere of woman that make bad decisions which most don't. This affects the national public a lot because of the harm that babies could come into from alcohol. When it comes to globabl public I think it has a slight effect for the more wealthy countries but this problem of FASD babies can be found through the world. Now I think that local and everyday public will be affected the most because this law will be found to begin in smaller communities. Everyday public will be affected because there will be the select few that are irresponsible and there are woman that just don't know that they are pregnant and it's not there fault for not knowing while they drink at home.

Rhetoric: Bullshit or Persuasion

Rhetoric has been mistaken as a liar's language or made up bullshit but it is much much more. Rhetoric is the use of public literacy to persuade or argue to an audience. It will cause mental adjustment and attitude change in the audience. Public literacy is the language found in a public setting. Almost anything can be considered a public setting from facebook all the way to a restroom...weird I know. Rhetoric spans to all disciplines due to the loose definition of the "public".

Deconstruction of the Order.

"Deconstruction does not consist in passing from one concept to another, but in overturning and displacing a conceptual order, as well as the nonconceptual order with which the conceptual order is articulated." From what I have learned from Derrida, the context that we have does not exist until the point we are starting to read it. Whether the author is there or not, alive or dead, is piece of work will contain meaning that given with our own context will have a specific meaning to each of us. As I have explored his piece and the OED, I have discovered that meaning of words change throughout time. What we say today might be something completely different tomorrow...
