Another nostalgic 90s track. Sometimes I think this particular album by BTE slips under the radar compared to their others....and it's one of their best.

Unfortunately I stopped following Mr. Crosby after he began releasing through his own label and online. I need to look up some of his more recent work...but the 3 albums I DO have are all amazing, and I suggest checking all his earlier stuff out. This song in particular is an all time favorite of mine.

Jay Ungar - "Ashokan Farewell" as heard on the documentary The Civil War
One of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written, and made famous by Ken Burns' Civil War documentary. Ironically, the only song from the doc/soundtrack that is NOT from the era...written in 1982!
40 Below Summer - "Falling Down" from the album Invitation To The Dance
Remember hearing this on the radio while I was in college and immediately going out to purchase the CD. A rumor I heard about the singer (which I have NO IDEA if it's true or not) is that he is the kid on David Byrne's back in the Talking Heads' "Burning Down The House" video. Fun fact if it is true.

Jimmy Eat World - "Rockstar" from the album Static Prevails
Before you go dismissing this as a typical JEW song, listen first. This is before they tweaked their sound and still had that raw energy. This was and is how "emo" should always sound. Also during the period before Jim Adkins became the lead singer, so enjoy that change as well. This album and Clarity remains their best work.

The Smithereens - "House We Used To Live In" from the album Green Thoughts
Great alternative band of the 80s, and to my surprise, still around. I remember the video to this song being one of my favorites on MTV when I was a child, but had forgotten about them as I grew up. Fortunately, about 10 years I rediscovered them, and have been enjoying them since.

The Format - "Sore Thumb" from the album Interventions and Lullabies
Great indie pop band that was unfortunately overlooked by the label they were signed to. Another major label tragedy.....

Wayne - "Shooting At The Stars" from the album Music On Plastic
One of my favorite pop/rock records, and almost completely unknown....it's a damn shame. Even in a digital world, it's hard to find information about these guys. This song probably won't get many listens, if any at all, and that's extremely unfortunate. If you like good rock/pop music, then you NEED to hear this album.

Jellyfish - "That Is Why" from the album Bellybutton
Very influential power pop band in the 90s. You can hear the influences in quite a few artists/bands. And the 2 core members are still pretty active in the music world today. Also gotta love it when the drummer is also the singer!

Run-D.M.C. - "It's Tricky" from the album Raising Hell
Been posting a lot of slower music lately...decided I needed to pick things up...at least for a day. Throwback time!

Tripping Daisy - "Waited A Light Year" from the album Jesus Hits Like The Atom Bomb
Going with an all-time favorite song of mine today. Hugely underrated band of the 90s....and greatly missed. If you haven't heard this song before, please take a few minutes and listen through to the end....it's pretty incredible...so many wonderful textures going on in this one.

Somber moods call for somber music....and what better group than The Cure to help? Not many people may agree with me here, but this is my personal favorite album from the band ("Disintegration" being a close 2nd, don't worry). Good luck feeling happy after hearing this song!

Sure, some of their songs are overplayed and have become associated with annoying commercials, but this gem truly is a classic. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
