That feeling when you start to realize your D&D character was, basically, Merle Highchurch for a long time, trying desperately to befriend and understand John, only to be hurt at every turn.
Unlike Merle, she doesn't get a chance to sit down and watch the sunset with the person she fruitlessly tried to help.
Guys. Gals. Nonbinary pals.
If you are gonna meet up for D&D and you say "oh I'll be 2-3 hours late" 30 minutes before it starts...
I hate you.
Just know this.

I'm looking respectfully
I'M NOT
I'm so lucky to have a brother who also loves D&D and Fallout 4 and GETS ME.
Been playing D&D (wooooo) and a LOT has gone on lately in the campaign. For clarity my PC is a wood elf monk named Daecan, and currently the only other party member is a human bard named Lester Quailfeather played by my brother.
-We lost two players due to real world Drama, which in turn led to the DM having to decide how to handle their in-campaign characters
-The unhinged PC-turned-NPC became a turncoat who sold the soul of the other PC-To-NPC to Raphael, like she'd been threatening to for weeks, leaving his warforged body a soulless husk that only responds to direct commands
-Then she got kidnapped by the assassins guild
-This was all mid-mission, so the leaders of the resistance were understandably confused/pissed when we returned
-One of the leaders, Cuma, a druid my PC Daecan respects highly because of his skills, loyalty and willingness to rescue a bunch of perfect strangers, got pissed at Daecan and blamed her for coddling the unhinged NPC/frankly enabling her, and left for a mission while leaving a bunch of animals keeping a close eye on Daecan
-then we had basically a beach episode session where we celebrated Founders Day with the townsfolk and participated in a concert, where the bard and an NPC Daecan was developing a crush on (a halfling mage named Cora) put on an amazing show while Daecan dance-fought for the crowd
-everybody was congratulating us afterward and it was pretty rad
-then Daecan got a letter the next day from her contact Xander in the village the group helped save, saying that he wanted the group to come help with talks to settle how to rebuild the mining town (Xander is a doddering old halfling monk, Daecan is fond of him and he's taken a shine to her and the DM basically said he kinda adopted her after the last time they met lol)
-so Daecan, the warforged robot, and Lester head for the mining town and do some light diplomacy, which was funny as hell considering that Daecan is a socially awkward monk and Lester is a self-important, very loud bard. Anyway, they decide on a plan and agree to support the resistance, which means we now have another town to add to the roster.
-on our way back to homebase, 2 days out from home, we see airships and giant constructs from the enemy kingdom and realize they're heading toward the resistance base, so we use the sending stone on the warforged to notify the resistance and make double time, trying our best to get back
-everything is on fire. when we enter the base, the level 20 leaders are running out at us, screaming at us to run, being pursued by a huge undead orc, and when we get outside, we hear Cora on the sending stone, thanking us for the awesome time she had at the concert, before she blows up the entire base
-Daecan. Is. Devastated. The leaders who are present get her and Lester up and run with them to the nearby town gates, where more people are injured and dead. And then an airship drops one of the Big Bads, who calls out the main resistance leader, Vincent, to play.
-knockdown drag out fight, paladin vs. oath breaker, time starts slowing for everyone but them, the local armed force finally shows up, THE Big Bad shows up and fights with the resistance's best tinkerer (Grylla, and yes, we've made the jokes dw), then calls off his people and they run off while one of the resistance leaders, an aasimar named Sarah, heals a bunch of us.
-BUT. Before they run off. Two of the big bads showed up together, and who should appear behind them but the former PC, smirking and saying "I told you I knew where the base was." And then one of the big bads immediately killed her to tie up loose ends, with the DM admitting he found it a hard choice between giving us the chance to face her down later and following what the BBs would actually do.
-So now we're losing our minds. Our base is demolished, the resistance is disgraced, we've lost a lot of good people, and now we have to figure out how to move forward. Vincent looks at us, and he's like, "we have to split up. That's the only way we can keep surviving and growing. You two, you're promoted, you take the new town and build up a base of operations there."
-Lester protests but we knew this was coming bc we were putting in a guild-like system (hard to play a robust game with only 2 PCs), so Vincent insists. And so we head back to the mining town.
-Along the way, close to the mining town we find a halfling who informs us that the leaders all poisoned each other before making the final vote is a bizarre, comedic fashion. Lester and Daecan are flabbergasted, and when they get to town (after a truly crazy detour to deal with a tree creature dealing cookies) they investigate.
-unfortunately, Sherlock and Watson we are not (couldn't roll above a 10 to save our lives apparently) and we don't find anything. The guy who shows us in to the meeting place goes, "welp, this town is now Y'ALL'S problem, have fun" and walks out, which...somehow convinces Lester that he's king ("and you're queen! ...but not like that, ew. No offense Daecan." "-_-")
-we left off with Daecan figuring out where to lay the bodies to rest and returning to find Lester being bowed to as King. She grappled him but couldn't make him shut up, and he managed to get 3 volunteers to do the burials.
...this game has been WEIRD, but fun. I just realized I glossed right over the weird encounter during that mission where we fought with the necromancer bad guy, where Lester refused to let him monologue and instead just immediately started blasting spells like he was fucking Gale Dekarios or something. I'm looking forward to figuring out the guild system and helping rebuild/protect the town.
So this D&D session ended on another cliffhanger. We delivered the deciphered note back to the cell leader (the note was written by her fallen husband; she did not handle it well) and decided to go after the necromancer next, but while we were plotting how to do that the BBEG's minions' minions came running in. So the sorceress set them all ablaze and the rebels killed the ones who survived.
We decided to follow the mine into the town the necromancer is hiding in, and the sorceress went invisible to scout it out. Raphael, meanwhile, keeps whispering in her ear and taunting her to turn on us, which she mostly restrains the urge to do. She finds her way in and scopes it out, then returns and guides us to the entrance of the mine inside the city.
Raphael THEN SAYS, "hey wouldn't it be funny if you just. Screamed. Really loud. :)" And she decides to listen to THAT, then go back invisible. So now our 4-person party, one of whom may or may not be actively hindering us, is panicking and preparing to fight like 10 underlings.
DM: Everything around you freezes, except for the four of you. Even the embers you were inspecting stop in place. The wind doesn't blow anymore. And then you hear, "Well well, what have we here?" from behind you, and you turn to see a human man walking toward you.
Monk: Oh fuck.
Bard: Yeah this seems bad. What's he look like?
DM: Slicked back hair, cane in one hand, and he's just *swaggering*.
Monk: Oh I REALLY don't like this. I'm gonna stand beside the Warforged.
Sorceress: Ooh, hot. "Hey, what's your name?"
DM: "Oh, well... I'm Raphael." And he smiles.
Monk: *immediately starts shouting "NO NO NO FUCK OFF DEVIL MAN", while the rest of the table just looks confused*
DM: ...fuck, I forgot you played BG3.
(Context: our trio of players and a warforged NPC helped a leader of a rebellion clear out a bandit camp that was threatening a nearby town. It was a long, hard fight but we managed to take everyone down in our sector. After handling all of them, the leader tells us he'll meet us back at town later but to head on back, then leaves.)
Bard: (ooc) Before we go I wanna search the bandit leader's body.
DM: Okay, roll for investigation.
Bard: *rolls a 3*
DM: After a few minutes, you find a letter that says, "Keep them busy," and that's all it says.
Bard: ...
Sorceress: ...
Monk: ...oh FUCK. They're on their way to the town.
*We panic and double-time it to the town, where we find another rebellion leader near death and we face off with the actual bandit leader. Sorceress goes down, gets revived by the Bard, then Monk goes down right before the Warforged tosses the big boss into a big fire and then, on the next round, blasts him into next year*
So this is Daecan in the D&D campaign I'm playing in currently. She's a wood elf monk who was sent to the Order of Tumadre at a young age because her family didn't have enough room or food to food to feed her.
She got kicked out of the Order at age 42 due to being annoying-- er, "refusing to fully embody the monastic spirit", so she was scrambling to find housing and money and got recruited into the Army of the Broken Cross. After merely two weeks of training (or what they called training, Daecan and her deserting squad mates call it "systematic murder"), she and everyone in her squad got thrust into a burning town with little direction or idea of what was going on or what to do aside from "Burn everything until you find rebellion members".
I used a PicCrew to make this for my D&D Beyond bio, and it's basically the moment she realizes how deep of shit she's gotten into.
(also yes I panicked when trying to figure out the name of the Order and named it "your mom". The DM hasn't mentioned it yet.)
This one hovered around my heart for over a year <3
Dragonborn: *makes and gives daggers to her daughters*
Daughters: Wow mom thank you! *immediately start testing them*
Dragonborn: They grow up so fast... :,)
Balimund, hiding in the kitchen, terrified of what he's married into: ...
Farkas, reporting back to Kodlak after my unarmed-based Dragonborn completed her initiation mission: She, uh... she's scary.
Kodlak: What? Farkas what do you mean?
Farkas: *thousand yard stare* Scary.
wheeze
I just got to asking Halsin more about himself and he talked about whittling and how he whittles "ornaments, utensils, and ducks - and ducks. I like ducks."
HE WHITTLES DUCKS.
Anyone else who's listened to the first season of TAZ knows why I'm wheezing. Buncha duck whittlers out here in Faerun.
constantly thinking abt this bastard
Tonight I found out Astarion approves when you sweettalk His Majesty, which sends me into fits. Everyone already describes ASTARION as a cat, and Neil Newbon literally patterned his portrayal of him after a stray cat he took in once, so like...
I just want to recreate the Twilight scene in the forest with Astarion and the player character, except Tav/Durge/other Origin confronts him for being a cat and Astarion is taken aback/sweating hard.
"You're impossibly fast...your teeth are thin and pointed...you skulk in the shadows..."
"What am I, dear? Say it."
"A fucking CAT!"
spent like an hour trying to find a post abt the disparity of origin companion's content in bg3 and couldn't so, hey, this fucking sucks
would just like to remind everyone that karlach was not even a character, much less a companion, until like halfway through EARLY ACCESS, and she still has 2 hours more content than the only Black companion, who was there the entirety of Early Access
