The last episode of Xena: Warrior Princess came out when I was in college. Being a queer kid in the 90s was scary as hell and being able to see myself in heroes like Xena and Gabrielle meant the world. In tribute, in Februrary 2002 I did this 20"x30" oil painting based on a production shot of this scene from the last episode.

I truly think I’ve entered a fever dream. I’ve been hoping somehow throughout season 5 that Eli resurrecting Xena and Gabrielle at the same time meant Gabrielle somehow got Xena pregnant. Mostly because I was just REALLY rooting that it wasn’t going to be some guy character to try and sprinkle in the straight lens. I was NOT expecting Callisto with the steel chair to come out of nowhere with the reveal it was her (yada yada I understand the greater story they were telling about redemption and how it was full circle storytelling) my gay ass is just stoked IT WAS ANOTHER FEMALE CHARACTER. Also unfortunately I am crying laughing at the whiplash of the suddenness of the War musical number in the next episode, but it’s just adding to the whimsy.

I just saw someone say "there is no ethical consumption under capitalism" as an argument for boycotting AO3

Babe AO3 is a nonprofit. They do not exist under the ethics of capitalism. Fanfiction is legal because no money is ever exchanged around it. (All the money given to AO3 is used to maintain their servers and pay their lawyers to help keep fanfiction legal.)

Fanfiction is one of the few things in this world - probably the one singular form of entertainment that does not exist within the confines of capitalism. So by your own logic, even if you hate some of the content on AO3, it's inherently the only ethical thing to consume in the whole world.
