FEAST
A project devised by writer and curator, Laura Mansfield. Having designed and produced three printed editions of the publication, last month we launched the FEAST website.

Taking the shape of an online publication FEAST explores our relationship with food as a social event, a marker of identity, a product of history and a commodity for trade.
The online content thematically investigates the setting of the table. Taking the table to be any surface upon which a meal is placed for consumption: from kitchen worktops, to formal dinning tables, canteen trays to TV dinners and picnic blankets. Exploring the utensils, tools and accessories accompanying each meal — from teaspoons, to napkins, side plates to soup bowls, the journal thematically lays the table in a series of digital editions that take the individual themes of Cutlery, Decoration, The Meal and The Dining Table.

Now it's all over, some memories of our work for http://www.goingpublicsheffield.org/ a great time was had by all. Putting the city even more firmly on the art map.
Distractions
Distractions was an exhibition of work by Gisli Bergmann and Rachel Fox, with writers Joanne Lee and Samuel Mercer engaging in 'conversations' about the nature of distractions. How can we define distraction? There are so many meanings. It is a term loaded with associations: complex, confusing, contradictory… The work explores emotional reaction/language with a constantly changing audience of pub visitors, creating a new space for art and dialogue. The exhibition took place at the Castle E17, London, and we were delighted to be asked to design two publications that accompanied the exhibition.

We are looking for an experienced creative to help establish and develop the New York studio. You will be supported by the UK studio and a stateside Principal Consultant, including opportunity to travel and collaborate: we’ll visit — you’ll visit.
Our New York studio will compliment the UK, nurture its own activity and support Benchmark’s* US operations.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:
Minimum 5 years agency / studio experience as a Creative Director, Art Director or Senior Creative / Designer. This role may suit a bright Senior Creative looking to progress.
A comprehensive understanding of brand development, digital application alongside design for print and publishing.
Experience coordinating and delivering a project end to end from client engagement to fulfilment. You will support and — where required — deliver this individually, as part of a team, internally and externally.
Experience in recruitment, managing and mentoring a team, developing effective working relationships with colleagues, clients and suppliers.
A desire to engage with and contribute to an existing culture, process and portfolio of activity.
Eligibility to work in the US, availability and willingness to travel to the UK.
Candidates with an active professional standing and established profile will be of particular interest.
Remuneration Package
Salary commensurate with experience.

Vague Terrain, the fourth instalment in Joanne Lee's Pam Flett Press series, explores her fascination with ambiguous sites — which architects and planners often dub 'terrain vague'. The writings explore Jo's encounters with these spaces, including abandoned quarries and lead-mines across the North Pennines, Sheffield’s post-industrial topography and the hinterlands of the Staffordshire Potteries.

LOOK WHAT WE WON!
Well… kind of…
You may remember from previous CIA blog entries, or maybe you read about it in the press, or maybe you saw the issue of Monograph that Creative Review dedicated to it, or maybe you’ve seen it here, but our wonderful illustrators descended on the V&A Museum of Childhood last year and made a ton of art under the strict art direction of little children.
Well, AMVBBDO were our partners in crime, they finessed our concept and packaged the whole thing. They worked very hard and we couldn’t have done it without their input and last night, at the Creative Circle Awards, they won Gold for the best illustration campaign!
Well done them, and well done all our fantastic artists who jumped on board and created over fifty wonderful works of art.
The award may say AMVBBDO on it, but we’re claiming a slice!

Performing the Past.
Performing the Past is a collaborative research network between the Universities or Sheffield, Leeds and York. The project seeks to generate new ways of telling stories about the past by bringing together academics and professionals from Yorkshire's cultural heritage industries.
This photo book evokes some of the themes of the project and records the richness and diversity of the workshops.
