"Waste of Space" -Simon the convict
watching a movie at home circa like, 2001 was like
put your TV on channel 2 so the VCR will work
open up the clamp shell case that held the VHS that has that satisfying crrlikkkkkk
put in the movie
gdi it has to be rewound
press STOP and then rewind because its so much faster that way
start the movie and it takes a few seconds for the movie to actually start cause you rewound to the VERY beginning
FBI will get you if you illegally distribute or exhibit this movie
and then. because you forgot that movies are always so much louder than TV
COMING SOON TO OWN ON VIDEO AND DVD
QUICK LOWER THE VOLUME LOWER THE VOLUME LOWER THE VOLUME OH FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

grace: hey guys check out my sick cartwheel
so embarrassing to watch yourself become obsessed with a character that feels tailor made for you specifically to become obsessed with. feels like i fell into a trap made just for me. like damn they got me. those are all the things i like and go crazy for

It really does continue to surprise me how badly people continue to misinterpret some of John Green's works. Especially since they always seem to get the exact opposite message from them somehow.
Paper Towns is not a book supporting the manic pixie dream girl trope it's an explicit deconstruction and harsh critique of it and the book is NOT subtle about that. I can point you to the exact passage in the book where he spells out that people you like don't belong to you and maybe aren't even thinking about you at all, like there's a reason Margo is upset and confused when Quentin finds her, she didn't leave those clues for him and it's weird to her that he thought she did and that he came to find her, she didn't want to be found. If the book ended with her swooning and being so proud of him for understanding her clues and finding her so they can now run away together that would be manic pixie dream girl bullshit but the exact fucking opposite thing happens!! Did you even read the book???
And you aren't supposed to think the teens in The Fault in Our Stars are cool and quirky, they're children seeking meaning and identity while dealing with the horrific and profoundly dehumanizing and autonomy stealing expirience of terminal illness, the cigarette doesn't mean anything deep or profound, it's clearly just a coping mechanism for Augustus to help him deal with his health being out of his control, and Hazel's obsession with an old, obscure book isn't bcs she's cool and quirky it's because she's terrified when she dies her parents won't be okay and she won't be there to help, so she NEEDS to know what happens to the other characters once the main one dies so she knows what will happen to her parents when she's gone, and the story is not subtle in showing what these "quirks" are really about. Augustus is just dealing with reality in his own weird way and Hazel is experiencing something a lot of people with terminal illnesses do, deep concern for the people you'll leave behind. (When I had a cancer scare all I could think about was how worried I was about my fiancé, and when my best friend got cancer the first thing he told me was that he couldn't die because he was worried I wouldn't be okay without him. You forget to worry about yourself, you really do. That's not quirky, it's painfully true to reality.)
I swear to god I think some of you straight up don't pay attention to the books you read.
Rocky ride Grace!
let me. innnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
after the whole gravity incident…
rocky learns how to do a keyboard “smash”
i started reading this book and kept tilting my head at the comparisons the author was using so i started a running list of them
this author's use of imagery is so questionable
i actually went "what the fuck" and had to stop for like 5 minutes after this one
Does anyone have that one clear picture of Simon with all his mutations I'm trying to fuck him up severely
I never really wanted to get into this on here but I want to talk about it now so nobody can stop me.
honestly one of the worst things is that I knew. a lot of people talk about not knowing they were trans until xyz event where they realized and went through whatever hardships and then transitioned. people talk about repression and discovery and all these things. and those are all powerful and important experiences I don't see myself as above them in any way. but I knew.
I was never an egg, I was never in denial. when I was 3 years old I dreamed I was a princess. I know this because my family retells it as a funny story. I tried to wear my sister's clothes regularly, I asked people why there wasn't a word for the reverse of a tomboy, I put on makeup, I used she/her pronouns online since I first learned to read and write.
I don't bring this up to do this "I've always been a woman deep down, so you should listen to me as super valid Mr psychologist gatekeeper". my point is that it didn't matter.
I knew, and it didn't matter. it wasn't an issue of having to figure out who I was and then realizing that. it's that who I am was intentionally killed and locked away at every turn. it's not that I didn't realize I was a girl, it's that I wasn't allowed to be one. I was hurt and punished and sent to conversion therapy repeatedly. I can't "go back in time and tell my younger self to save her years of struggle". it wouldn't matter. it wouldn't change anything at all. the issue wasn't a lack of information. it's a lack of power. kids and trans kids especially are subject to so much abuse and we have no power to do anything about it. it is such a great tragedy beyond words. knowing what you want to do and wear and say and be, that you want this name and these pronouns and that cute dress, and being powerless to do anything about it anyway. forced to wear clothes picked out for you by a guardian, only able to use pre-approved nicknames online. only allowed to engage in these specific hobbies and have these specific friends. all of whom treat you like garbage. but it doesn't matter. it doesn't even matter if you know it's unjust, there's no way to do anything about it. it is perhaps the most powerless position anyone can be in. there is no level of knowledge or personal strength that will get you out of it. you just have to shut off until enough time passes for the law to deem you as worthy of being a person.
I think that's a big part of why I'm like this now, once you see that powerlessness, when you experience the depths of hopelessness and disenfranchisement, you can never unsee it. it does something to you
it's easier to think that I did something wrong. that if I were smarter or stronger or cleverer I could've figured it out. and that when I did get out of that place, that it was due to my strength. but the reality is it wasn't. none of it was my fault, and that's almost harder to handle. there's no amount of trial or belief or hope or self knowledge that can magically warp the world to be kind to you. when I got away it's because I was a legal adult. that's it, that's all that changed. the only thing holding me back that entire time
