Foods and Delicacies of Boljoon

I asked my tour guide what are their pride in their kitchens and she said that when you have to visit Boljoon, you have to taste their torta (a type of cake) and their egg yolk cookies. Of course, I did bought some for me and my family in the city. My tour guide added that their humba, a popular Filipino dish is also unique and it is also something that you should also try.

The Lusapon Resort

Lusapon Beach Resort is situated in the peaceful  municipality of Boljoon, Southern Cebu - a 3 hours and Half Bus Ride from Cebu South Bus Terminal. The Dayhag Falls Of Boljoon

The natural attractions of Cebu have made the island one of the go-to places for adventure enthusiasts and nature lovers. While many of these natural attractions are already well-known among local and foreign tourists, there are still some places that have remained relatively undiscovered by everyone other than the residents of the area. One of these lesser-known natural attractions is the Dayhag Falls of Boljoon.

The name of the waterfalls was derived from what older residents in the area say about the place. They say “ga-dayhag kuno ang tubig” or “the water is cascading.” The Dayhag Falls is located in Barangay Upper Beceril in the southern town of Boljoon. The place was actually discovered recently and is being promoted by the local government with the support of the Cebu provincial government.

The Nuestra Señora del Patrocinio de Maria Parish Church (Our Lady of Patronage of Mary Parish Church), commonly known as Boljoon Church, is a Roman Catholic Church dedicated to the Our Lady of Patrocinio in the municipality of Boljoon, Cebu, Philippines, under the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cebu.

Before and After

Before the development, the Ili Rock of Boljoon looked like this. The limestone rock which protrudes towards the sea and around which the corniche was built, is often lovingly referred to as the Southern Bend.

There was a bit of a controversy when the clearing and carving activities were first started. People began protesting heavily, especially on Facebook and Twitter, against the apparent ‘destruction’ of this beautiful natural gem.

Boljoon is considered one of Cebu’s most beautiful towns. Blessed with natural, man-made, and heritage landmarks, the town is a favorite stop among tourists traveling to the southern tip of the island. The town is home to the age-old Patrocinio de Maria Church, the captivating Kan-Amno Falls, a host of well-loved beach resorts, and the famous Ili Rock, which is also often referred to as Cebu’s Southern Bend.

Just last year, for safety reasons (to prevent rocks from falling during landslides,) the top portion of the iconic Ili Rock was cleared and levels. The activity lasted for months and was eventually stopped when it was deemed that the rock was already stable. Today, the top portion of the rock has become one of the town’s most prized tourist attractions called the Ili Rock Viewing Deck.
