hey guys great news. guess who saw a doctor recently and it turns out my shitty comprehension skills that coincidentally got worse around the same time i got hit in the head with a spinning loose bench board in middle school probably wasnt just an autism thing and chances are i have aphasia that’s just been unchecked this whole time
I hope OP is okay but my god am I dying of laughter
#OP I’m glad you got help and I’m sorry that happened to you #but your aphasia has made me weep with laughter
You listen to music regularly? Why? Have you even tried quitting? Could you quit? You get music stuck in your head? Wow. You're so ruined and music brained. I bet you make your partners listen to music with you when you have sex. Music addiction has really ruined a whole generation. You know it's not realistic to expect reverb in real life, right? You're probably so desensitized that you don't even feel anything anymore when you hear a bird singing that it wants some fuck.
I don't have a problem with people listening to music per se, but I do have a problem with the music industry exploiting & mistreating artists.
Personally, I abstain from all music in order to keep my hands clean but really music should just be illegal outright to protect musicians from abuse.
holy shit this person in the notes
me: my tsunami evacuation route is up a nearby mountain. 2.5 miles of difficult terrain to safety, but the state provided wave simulations have the tsunami arriving in 10-30 minutes. i'd never make it in time on foot, or by the roads if the roads were even intact post-earthquake. so i've been considering riding the route on the horse, training bareback and halter-only so i could evacuate by horseback. getting the horse to come to me after something so upsetting as an extreme earthquake would be tricky, but it's a small pasture-
my coworker: hey. this conversation is making me anxious.
me: okay that's SO fair.....want to hear what kind of wedding i want to have instead?
coworker: that's a topic-jump
me (guy who just really loves planning stuff): actually not really
stay vigilant. there are still people out there who will try to convince you that eating fruit is somehow bad for your body
things people have tried to convince me are bad for my body lately
eating grains
eating fruit
eating meat
eating vegetarian
it's almost like all pop-nutrition diets encourage restrictive disordered eating, as the only "safe" thing to eat becomes nothing at all.
crk update’s fucking me up so as a stress relief I made the entire alphabet out of bad luck brian
A HANDY CHART FOR THOSE OF YOU WONDERING WHAT THE FUCK IS UP WITH THESE. NOTE THAT THESE ARE ALL THE INFORMAL AND YOU IS THE FORMAL SO LIKE YOU WOULD ALWAYS ADDRESS YOUR SUPERIOR/ OLDER PERSON/ SOCIAL BETTER WITH YOU BUT WITH YOUR BUDS YOU CAN USE THESE.
I’m not sure I knew the thy/thine distinction. Thanks for this!
THINE IS ALSO GRAMMATICALLY EQUIVALENT TO YOURS.
“It is yours” and “It is thine” differ only in their level of formality.
Hold on, let me look something up real quick
Yeah this is funny
Everyone on AO3 better brace for an absolute deluge of people who have no clue how to fucking behave
a type of guy that exists and that you get often exposed to as a sex worker is the type of guy who found out they like being dommed and now sincerely believe that they have overcome their misogyny, because now instead of treating women like submissive sex objects, they treat women like dominant sex objects.
@demilypyro is so correct
the venn diagram of "men who think they're not misogynistic because they like femdom" and "men who think they're not transphobic because they jack off to trans women" is a circle
add in "white people who think they're not racist because they fetishize people of color"
the way that ADHD meds actually really work for overcoming executive dysfunction and focus.. its so crazy that people just call it meth and claim people are abusing it. this literally makes me a functional adult.
not just "functional adult" as in "functional in the workplace", either. ADHD meds are what give me the executive functioning to plan and cook healthy meals for myself. to keep track of time instead of "oops it's 2am" every night. to not get overwhelmed by the prospect of texting back my friends and family. to engage with the hobbies that I love instead of sitting in a chair staring at the wall just crying because every step of getting up and getting started feels like an impossible barrier. to not feel like I need to hurt myself just to get rid of the constant feeling of "under my skin is itchy and my brain is buzzing like hornets".
it's not about doing better in school or being a better worker drone or whatever. ADHD meds are what let me keep myself physically and mentally healthy. they give me the ability to be social and plan and do the things that I love doing. the meds don't make me perfect at any of this, but they give me a chance at achieving some of them sometimes. and even that much is utterly life-changing.
I'm reading a short story set in ancient Rome and one of the characters just said "Discord gnaw your entrails." That was an interesting mental image until my brain caught up and reminded me that no, those Romans did not have access to modern social media.
To turn off this feature in Discord, go to the Settings Menu, then select Advanced Setttings, then My Entrails, where you can adjust the Gnaw setting to your personal preference.
they will reset this value to 100 every single time discord updates, just so you know
Putting yourself out there, talking to people with a "do it scared" mentality, and facing your fears can help with social anxiety. With every success (aka every interaction that doesn't go as terribly as your brain fears it might), your brain learns that it doesn't need to be so scared. That you can succeed. That you can, in fact, get a good grade in conversation and social interaction.
However. I do not think "just fucking get over it and talk to people lol" is a helpful thing to tell people with social anxiety. I don't think telling people to just get over their fucking disability will help them manage their fucking disability. How about some of y'all get over the idea that social anxiety is some non-issue that only lazy people who "don't want to put in the work to be healthy" struggle with.
Have you instead considered posting actual encouragement? Scripts to ease their anxiety? Teaching people the game of worst case, best case, most likely case? Literally anything else?? "Just get over it" is the most bullshit "advice" in the world. "If you have difficulty talking to people you're a loser who needs to grow up and just do it anyway" is, believe it or not, extremely unhelpful! So perhaps STFU!
"having successful social interactions will increase your confidence and thus help you manage your fears" and "telling people to just get over their disability and do the thing they struggle to do is shitty" can both be true.
You have to create positive experiences to counteract/heal the negative ones. I find that this takes a lot of creativity with engineering experiences that will feel safe enough to be positive.
Admittedly I have personal dislike of "do it scared" because of a lifetime of doing things WAY TOO SCARED, which can really increase the fear, because doing things while you're sick with fear is an extremely negative experience which reinforces the fear
Regarding potential post-whump reactions: The thing about hyper-vigilance is that there's an upper limit to it. Like, eventually, someone can be so on edge and so fried and trying to take in so much that they just stop taking in anything. Not flinching anymore, not keenly attuned to every escape route, not alert to possible dangers—internally restless and keyed up all the same, but it's all static, none of it useful because there's no way to differentiate signal in the midst of all that noise.
The “greening” of urban spaces began in most places as halfhearted greenwashing programs spearheaded by slick politicians and corporate interests looking to sway public opinion in their favor. However, serious efforts to bring back native flora to cities was surprisingly effective at rehabilitating bird and insect populations therein, as well as improving air quality. By the 2100s, flower beds sprouted from bus shelters and lawns topped office buildings in any municipality that hoped to be taken seriously.
i really thought the point of "being lgbt+ doesn't absolve you of racism as a white person" was that white people arent absolved of racism by being marginalized but it really seems like people think other marginalizations make it okay. no being disabled doesn't do it. no being poor doesnt do it. we need to fight against racism actively no matter what.
