Instead of True Crime, there should be a genre called True Law. everyone researches heinous acts of cruelty that were entirely, perfectly legal & sanctioned by the governments of their countries. Instead of True Crime’s freakish eugenicist obsession with “The Criminal Mind” (as if “criminals” are a biologically different species) —-the True Law podcasters could describe horrific acts of violence committed by police officers & prison guards & soldiers &etc, and breathlessly attempt to understand the twisted mysteries of “The Legal Mind.” It’s necessary, for Equality
Im sure someone else on tumblr has said this but humans dont technically "need" art to survive, it doesnt really serve a purpose beyond being a way to represent our feelings in a manner others may understand. and in my opinion thats what makes generative ai so different from other technological advancements throughout history. people spin wool and count loaves of bread and ride horses because they have to in order to stay alive, but when people draw paintings or sing songs or write stories or flirt or joke it's because we're feeling something and we want to convey it to other people around us.
whereas inventions like the spinning jenny or the train or even the abacus are intended to do more of the things that we have to do to exist, generative ai is mainly pretending (badly) to be as good as any human at literally being human. thats why i dont see it as being some kind of luddite when someone refuses to use ai, because most other history-defining inventions that we compare ai to were replacing the menial tasks humans were never really that fond of anyways.
its not as if these inventions came with pure intentions and its not as if they didn't also bring grief with them; so much of the industrial revolution was so horribly wrong and far far worse than generative ai, but it also didnt come for the pastimes at the core of being a human. that is what truly bothers me about it and im sure many people agree.

personal opinion but, in fandom space, ai generated works are not fan-created contents. because a soulless robot cannot be passionate about something nor can it be “a fan” of something the way human artists are
