Okay I think I've finally nailed down why I love Iridesia so much (other than the obvious 'one of us! one of us!' glee).

Usually with coming out stories, the focus is so internal, individualistic, and isolating. It's one person becoming who they are and often losing their community in the process, having to rebuild a found family.

But Iridesia's story is all about community. They only figure themselves out because of the support of friends. Their main motive through the story is to help others. The isolating thing (sticking with Drakara) is what would keep them trapped as they are. The communal thing (accepting the love of all their friends) is the right thing to do. And what we learned about the original Grey Ritual makes it sound like Iridesia's job is now going to be helping other Neopians on similar journeys.

Everything about the story is about community support and leaning into community and good allyship. It's so refreshing and optimistic in a way I'm not used to seeing, and I love it so much.

Vintage Story is truly one of the games of all time and has a level of attention to detail that I aspire to one day reach, and nothing exemplifies that more than the bugs.
