Fyi everyone that Trans Law Help thing that’s been going around is actually a scam. It’s bring run by the same scammers who cheated loads of young lgbtq tumblr users out of thousands of dollars with a bogus video game called The Arkh Project a few years back.
Please spread the word, and consider instead sending money to Trans Lifeline, The Sylvia Rivera Law Project, or The Mazzoni Center.
NOTE: there are legit people using the #translawhelp hashtag, but do NOT give them any money until they’ve proved they’re a licensed and legitimate lawyer.

PSA: If you don’t know the history of Riley (aka crackerhell) &Co, psychopaths and con artists who have been operating out of sf/f fandom and sj spaces for about a decade, do some research and be prepared to be disgusted.
I’ve also seen posts going around by Andy Thanfiction, a trans man who has been in fandom for about 15 years and is notorious for being the Hugo Schwyzer of queer fandom– a con artist and serial domestic abuser involved in a domestic homicide. His MO is to create literal cults around his person, mostly of young queer people who are vulnerable to adults offering what seems like help. His most recent post involved a call to queer teens to contact him if they are in despair about the election.
These are dark times, and the community needs to stick together, but we also need to be wary of known predators taking advantage of this crisis to find new victims.

Things that are a fanfic writer’s responsibility:
The category for relationships (Gen, F/F, M/F, M/M, a combination, something else)
The right category for ratings (is it for General Audiences, Teenagers, Mature, Explicit, R-Rated, Nc-17?)
The relevant warnings (violence, rape, underage sex, anything else you deem relevant)
The relevant tags on it (what relationships are covered in the fic? What characters? Is it light and fluffy fic? Funny? Sad? Dark? Does it have sex, and if so, what kind? Is there violence? Tags are used by readers to find fic and to avoid fic)
A summary that informs the reader of what kind of fic they’re gonna read.
Author’s notes for everything else. You can use the summary or author notes to explain certain tags, or add caveats, or thank your beta’s.
Things that are not a fanfic writer’s responsibility:
Kids stumbling across your fic and reading your fic and assuming that whatever is written about in the fic is 100% cool and normal.
The mental health of people who don’t like the subject matter of your fic.
Friendly reminder that asexuals can in fact be affectionate and find people attractive.
