Every day I wake up with a song in my head. Often I don't know why it's there as it's not one I remember hearing. Other days I can't even identify it without a search. Time to pass on the earworm

"Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo" was written in 1949 by Al Hoffman, Mack David, and Jerry Livingston. It was introduced in the 1950 film Cinderella, performed by actress Verna Felton. It's also been recorded by Ilene Woods and The Woodsmen with Harold Mooney and His Orchestra (1949), Perry Como and The Fontane Sisters (1949), Jo Stafford and Gordon MacRae (1949), Dinah Shore (1949), Jack Pleis (1955), Yoko Shimomura (2010), Jun Fukuyama (2012), Nellie McKay (2015), and Helena Bonham Carter (2015).

Trivia: Akira Toriyama named three characters in his Dragon Ball series after this song: the evil wizard Bibidi, his son Babidi, and Bibidi's powerful creation Majin Buu.

Watch out for the cameos from producer Trevor Horn and music promoter and journalist Paul Morley in the music video of British band ABC's 1982 single "The Look of Love." It was the band's highest charting hit in the UK, peaking at number 4 on the UK Singles Chart. It went to number 1 on the Billboard Dance/Disco chart as well as the Canadian Singles Chart.

Love to Hate You, from Erasure's fifth album, Chorus, is one of their most successful on the UK singles charts, but failed to make a chart impact in Australia.

The song itself and video, filmed mostly in London's Leadenhall Market, take influences from many sources including Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" for the synth medley, and Jean Michel Jarre's circular keyboard.

The song in my head is Blondie's "Out In The Streets". It wasn't until writing this post that I discovered it was originally recorded by The Shangri-Las, an American pop group best known for their song "Leader of the Pack", in 1965.

Starting with Eurythmics' lead singer, Annie Lennox in a car accident, the video clip for the 1985 song "It's Alright (Baby's Coming Back)" is a combination of live action and computer animation - something not often seen in the mid-80s.

The clip's storyline revolves around Lennox and Eurythmics partner Dave Stewart being so connected that he can sense something has happened to her and the clip is performed as an out of body experience by Lennox as she is lying in a hospital bed. During the clip Stewart travels to Lennox's side. At the end of the clip Lennox's eyes open as Stewart walks into her hospital room.

The song reached #14 in Australia, #12 in the UK but a poor #78 in the USA.

Luther, Sly, James, Marvin... but when Smokey sings, I forget everything.

New wave duo ABC released "When Smokey Sings" in 1987 at the same time Smokey Robinson himself was in the US charts with the single "One Heartbeat" - one of the few times an artist and a song dedicated to them were in the American charts at the same time.

The album version lyrics are different to the original single lyrics which had the references to Luther Vandross, Sly & the Family Stone, James Brown, and Marvin Gaye removed.

Carnival Of Lost Souls' "Funky Lunch the compiled reworks of 'Without You' - remixed by the fantastic Mark Alsop was a defining EP for the Sydney dance scene in 1992.

The "Without You" single was already a success, but Carnival's Ian Gordon wanted something different. The boys came up with not 1, not 2, but 7 remixes of the single covering all styles of music from slow groove to disco to girly pop.

"The Little Drummer Boy" (originally known as "Carol of the Drum") is a popular Christmas song written in 1941. It was originally recorded in 1955 by the Trapp Family Singers (yes, the Trapp family that inspired Rodgers and Hammerstein's "The Sound of Music").

This version by Miss RuPaul Charles is from her 1993 single "Little Drummer Boy / Supermodel" but surprisingly didn't appear on her 1997 Christmas album "Ho Ho Ho".

"Simply Irresistible"'s video, directed by British fashion photographer Terence Donovan, is instantly recognisable because of the identically dressed dancing women with pale faces, dark eye makeup and bright red lipstick, which resembled the women in the art of popular 80s artist Patrick Nagel.

The song reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart and stayed at #1 on the Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart for three weeks. In Australia it stayed at #1 for 5 weeks, earning best-charting single of the year, according to the Australian Music Report.

Josh Abrahams & Amiel Daemion's 1998 hit "Addicted To Bass" reached the top 20 in Australia, and was nominated for the Australian Performing Right Association "Song of the Year" in 1999. This is the original Australian release clip filmed at GL Pro Sound in Essendon, Victoria.

In the Europe the song was credited to the group name "Puretone" to avoid confusion with Josh Abraham. The clip for this version features a car chase inspired by the movie "Mad Max" and was filmed using the same roads in the You Yangs region of Australia. Anyone who follows Android news will know why this was in my head this morning.

"Lollipop" is a 1958 song written by Julius Dixson and Beverly Ross. The song's inspiration was Dixon's daughter getting a lollipop stuck in her hair.

The song has been covered many times, first becoming a hit for the American female vocal quartet The Chordettes whose version reached #2 on the Billboard pop charts and #3 on the  R&B charts in the US, and #6 in the UK.

The song features Billy Joel's voice not just on lead vocal, but 14 backup vocals as well. Only 1 instrument - a bass guitar - is played in the song. All other sounds are percussive such as finger snaps and hand claps.
