Even: Christmas tree?

Isak: Yeah, actually I haven’t told you, but about Kosegruppa..they’ll have some Christmas get-together here on Friday.

Even: Here?

Isak: Mhm.

Even: Friday?

Isak: You want to come?

Even: I…I’ve actually promised mom that I-..I talked to her today, and she really wanted me to stop by, to eat and stuff. Or I don’t really know. I was thinking maybe just to stay there for a while.

Isak: Just take it one day at a time.

(Y’all know Kosegruppa by now, so I decided not to translate it because yeah…)

can we stop for a second and think of how brilliant henrik has been this whole time? he knew from the start every aspect of his character, he knew of his mental illness, and i assume he studied it in order to get a better understanding and in order to portray his character the right way. he knew from the start, but he also knew all the other qualities his character possesses, and he managed to show the viewer all those qualities, all those aspects of even. he made it all believable to the viewer, he managed to make us see even for all that he is, make us see what a multi-layered character he is

henrik didn’t fall into the trap of knowing that even has a mental illness and making that the most prominent aspect of his character. because it isn’t, because a person is not their mental illness. and henrik made sure the viewer understood that. he knew, he knew of his character’s thoughts, his worries, so there were glimpses of those earlier in the season. and those weren’t the only ones, there were other subtle hints throughout the season. but he didn’t overdo it. and knowing what he knew, he could’ve overdone it. he did it with care and understanding and i am so thankful for that because it’s such an important but delicate subject that isn’t often addressed properly, realistically. characters with a mental illness are too often portrayed as a cliché, a stereotype. and that’s not what the show and henrik did 

of course, the writing and the directing of the show played a role in how the viewer perceived even. but writing and directing can only do so much. henrik needed the correct understanding of his character in order to portray him in such a way. and it’s definitively not something all actors can do, especially not an actor so young and with so little prior experience in the industry

What impresses me even more now about Tarjei is now that we’ve seen glimpses of the actor’s own personality, he just seems like an average regular 17 year old kid that you’d find in your high school. That doesn’t take himself too seriously. And he’s just that kid that’s just hanging out at the back of class and practicing rap (badly, sorry boo, you’ll get there).

Like he doesn’t seem like some thespian drama hipster kid brooding all over the place and labelling it “method”.

Which makes sense I guess, cos if you look back at Season 1&2 isak was just kind of like a happy go lucky kid. There wasn’t much depth required there. And Tarjei himself in the Skavlan interview said that isak is just mostly based off himself.

And then this season was probably the true test of his capabilities. Of all the seasons and characters, I feel isak’s character came with the heaviest baggage. The type of character that demanded a lot from its actor.

And his ability to basically inhibit his character wholly and fully, and tap into those emotions that he may not have experienced in his own life is just so profoundly amazing. He delivers on basically every scene. And props to Julie Andem and scene partner, Henrik for also bringing out the best in him. Other people have spoken more eloquently on his acting abilities. And we’ve praised his portrayal endlessly. But when you contrast it with how he is in real life (albeit based on what little information we can deduce from) it just seems a lot more impressive.

i really really really want a scene where isak and even talk about sonja saying even doesn’t love isak and how it’s just a “sick idea” he’s got. i really really want even to explain to isak why it’s not, and why he knows he’s in love with isak and why his mental illness has nothing to do with it. and it’s not just because i want these two reunited, it’s mostly because it would be so so important and impactful to give even that voice and it would teach the viewers so much. it would not only refute sonja’s statement, but also refute the general false idea that people with a mental illness aren’t aware of their own feelings, aren’t able of having genuine feelings, the very false idea that those feelings are more often than not simply the result of their mental illness

ok but if this isn’t the whole message of this season i don’t know what is even saved isak from not accepting his sexuality and from isolation. isak has now come to terms with who he is and is in a better place with his friends, texting his mother again…he doesn’t have to hide parts of himself anymore

and now it’s isak turn to save even back, to accept him, show him that having a mental disorder did not make isak to stop loving him, that he will fight this together with him, that even’s feelings are valid and get even to a place where he won’t feel the need to hide his disorder

i think that this is the message of skam this season and it’s beautiful

As people before me have pointed out, Genesis 21:21 is called The Birth of Isaac. Very symbolic! The time probably representing Isak’s actual birth and then him being reborn, when accepting and becoming who he is.
