it's been a week since the shine finale and since krailert and naran eloped to who knows where, together and safe and happy, krailert definitely did not end up trapped with the devil forever and was defo not forced to impregnate said devil and they definitely had a wonderful life quarreling over music and going on stupid movie dates and writing each other beautiful love letters

Despite my immense love for MileApo, I confess that the series left me with conflicting feelings, especially regarding the TrinTanwa couple. The anticipation for their reunion was enormous, but the execution left something to be desired. Tanwa's character, while charismatic, borders on caricature, and the relationship between him and Trin lacks development and depth. The lack of a clear timeline and a more solid narrative arc for the couple hindered the development of their story, leaving the impression that the series relied too heavily on the actors' undeniable chemistry.

Given this, I completely understand why part of the fandom rooted for Victor. His relationship with Trin was built with more elaborate dialogue and meaningful moments, creating a solid and believable foundation. This disparity in the development of the relationships is undoubtedly a weakness of the series.

However, it's important to highlight the positives. The series shines in its approach to Thailand's complex political and democratic situation, offering international fans a unique opportunity to learn about and delve deeper into the country's history. Mile and Apo's performances are impeccable, conveying emotion and authenticity in every scene. They undoubtedly delivered a memorable work, with brilliant performances and an important political message.

In short, despite the flaws in the development of the TrinTanwa relationship, the series still stands out for Mile Apo's performance, its immersion in Thai culture, and its courage in addressing relevant political issues. It's a work worth watching, but with the caveat that not all expectations will be met.

Same, I think TT was a bit forced. I don't know their story didn't feel as organic as some other series and I actually thought plot- driven it made more sense to have Trin and Victor especially thinking about the rebellion.

I hate his life, I knew he wouldn't get an unadulterated happy ending, but I think what Dhevi is doing to him is even worse than I thought it would be. Like ... It's maybe better than being killed? But that's about it, still one of the worst fates I can think of.

Thinking about being trapped in a marriage and forced to have a baby with someone just horrifies me.

i think i know why the ending of shine bothers me so much (other than you know. the obvious horror of krailert's situation) but idk if im reading too much into it or if im just stupid in interpreting things a certain way

but also it's leaving a bad taste in my mouth the fact that the two characters getting a happy ending are the ones that don't overtly oppose the system. and sure, being queer already goes against what's considered normative in society, but at the same time you have trin who's the observer, who got to take a look at the other side of the moon and came back from it changed but unscathed, who did his best to protect the students but never fully bought into their beliefs, and then you have tanwa who never got involved in any of it and comes from a place of privilege

meanwhile all the characters who actively fought the system - victor with his protests, naran with his articles, krailert with his ultimate act of defiance against the military - get punished for it in some way: death, exile, the complete annihilation of the self......

I am utterly bitter and mostly sad right now but I will just say, Krailert was by far the best character in the whole series.

He was the most complete and developed character from every angle. It breaks my heart he lived in fear and solitude his entire life and when he chooses to actively seek justice he again gets cornered and threaten to live in fear. He deserved so much better ending after all the pain he went through.

He never got to be happy, he was threaten to be intimate with a woman (I don't want to mention it but we know this would look awful if he was a woman), to continue his miserable life next to someone he not only don't love but now fears.

Krailert, you will always be the best character that show gave and will alway believe you eventually ran away to be happy.
