Asexual

There’s A LOT of misinformation on asexuality out there, a lot of people have the wrong idea about what being asexual actually is. I want to clear it up some, with pride month just around the corner what better time to do so.

Asexual (Ace)- lack of sexual attraction, not having a sexual attraction towards any sex or any gender.

This does not limit romantic attraction or limit the liking of sex. Being ace doesn’t mean not liking or wanting sex. Some like sex, some dont like it but will still have sex, some are indifferent towards sex, some like sex but only from one certain person, and some dont like sex at all and won’t have sex. And all that is perfectly fine and doesn’t make you any less asexual.

I mentioned romantic attraction and let’s dive into that for a bit. Romantic attraction is what you are romantically attracted to. So you can basically like the same sex or gender sexually but romantically like any sex or gender. So let’s say your asexual but you find that you like males but not in a sexual way and that’s what romantic attraction is basically. But what about not liking any sex or gender romantically? That’s called Aromantic (aro) and to put it simple, you like males sexually but not romantically and you dont find any sex or gender attractive romantically.

In a dumbed down way to put it, sexual attraction is what you like in bed, but that doesn’t limit how much sex you like or prefer, and romantic attraction is what you’d want to date/be in a relationship with. You can be sexually gay but not like sex that much, that doesn’t make you asexual you’re still gay you are just a bit sex repulsed. Being sex repulsed doesn’t affect your sexual attraction, however most people who are sex repulsed are asexual.

I’d also like to add on that being asexual is completely valid in the lgbtqa+ community. We are still queer and have every right to be included in queer spaces.
