A NEW YEAR COMET
ASTRONOMY - A NEW YEAR COMET Comet 45P/Honda-Mrkos-Pajdušáková & the Waxing Crescent Moon will share the evening of December 31, 2016, just after sunset. Comet 45P is not a naked-eye celestial object although it is passing perihelion (closest point to the Sun) on December 31, 2016. You will need binoculars or small telescope to see a faint-fuzzy-diffused speck in the night sky. Comet 45P is a short (~5 yrs.) periodic comet discovered in 1948 by Honda Minoru, a professional Japanese Astronomer and will eventually produce enough solar system dust/debris to create a potentially new annual Meteor-shower but we'll have to wait and see.

Add One Second to GMT
TIME - Adjustment - Leap Second
Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) must be adjusted at irregular intervals to keep it close to mean solar time.
Time as calculated by the motion of the mean sun and the Earth and time is shown by an ordinary clock which corresponds to mean solar time.
Due to irregularities in Earth’s rotation these adjustment, called a Leap Second, are necessary and pre-determined.
The next Leap Second will occur on 31 December 2016 at 23:59:59 UTC. Specifically, a positive Lap Second will be inserted between second 23:59:59 UTC of 31 December and second 00:00:00 UTC of 1 January 2017.
This extra second is displayed on UTC clocks as 23:59:60.
Radio Kuwait upgrade and add new DRM
Swiss company awarded contract to improve Radio Kuwait analog transmitters and add DRM starting January 2017. The station is located approximately 20km from Jahra, Kuwait.
Two Atom Radio Receiver
This tiny radio has building blocks the size of two atoms. The radio is extremely resilient, thanks to the inherent strength of the diamond.
It is made from imperfections the size of two-atoms in a single piece of dimond crystal powered by a green laser (wires are impratical), then the crystal produces red light when radio waves are detected.
The output red light is received by a traditional photodiode converting it into current to power a speaker.
The team successfully played music at 350 °C — about 660 °F
