As part of a talk yesterday, I used one of my photos from Singapore to help demonstrate the problem with Feature Creep. These are air conditioning units on an ice cream factory. “Feature creep, creeping featurism or featuritis is the ongoing expansion or addition of new features in a product, such as in computer software. Extra features go beyond the basic function of the product and so can result in over-complication rather than simple design.” (source: Wikipedia.com)

Too Cool For School: London Zoo Penguin Pool by Berthold Lubetkin-
Happy world penguin day everybody! In celebration, today’s post features three of my favourite things: Modernism, monochrome and penguins!
Russian architect Berthold Lubetkin, who emigrated to England in the 1930s, was probably most famous for Highpoint, a block of flats in North London. He was a pioneer of the modern movement in Britain and worked on many projects. He designed the penguin pool at London zoo in 1934 which housed the penguins until recently. The pool is still at London Zoo today and is now grade 1 listed but unfortunately the penguins have been moved to another enclosure.

Grove of miniature bonsai style trees constructed from 5000+ feet of 14 gauge copper coated steel, 2000+ feet of 32 gauge bare copper wire. The trees are hand tied to the stone, no welding or glue of any kind was involved, tension alone holds the trees to the stone.

So long as we continue to have such trouble telling one another what we really feel, there'll be a role for literature.
