It was head at Books & Beats. And it was more dead than normal because of the recent events. Still, Holly did her best to stomach down all the feelings she was having and try to have a bright smile on her face. Though, the smile was present, it's brightness was something to be debated.
When the bell chimed and a man walked up to her desk, Holly tilted her head to listen to him. Then, the not-so-bright smile fell to a small frown.
"Don't read? Not even a menu when you go out to eat?" It was a lighthearted jab. And, in all honesty, Holly wouldn't have thought to tease a customer, especially a customer she did not know, if it wasn't for the look in his eyes. A bold move in front of someone with enough love for reading to land a job at the local bookstore.
Holly nodded. She was there to help, but she couldn't work on this information alone. "Did you listen enough to know what she was talking about?" Holly asked. She kept her eyes on the man, but raised her brow at him. There were far too many books that a woman would want to read. If his sister was a reader, there was a possibility that Holly would accidentally pick a book that the girl had already read. She needed more information than just that it was a book for this guy's sister. "Like the genre? The author? The plot? If not, I can do my best to give you a recommendation. For yourself and your sister. Reading helps with memory, you know?"
When the girl spoke Edward resisted his urge to roll his eyes at her comment. It was bad enough he had even come into a place like this, now he was being teased for how out of place he was? Then again Edward thought this might just be the clerk's weird way of flirting, and he could handle that a little better.
He took a moment and tried to remember what his sister had been talking about. She always loved to talk his ear off about these things and it was a rarity that Edward ever listened, but having messed up bad with her birthday present last year, he was determined to do a little better this time.
"It's old? or it sounds old. British I think." He shrugged. "Sounded kinda corny. I think they made it into a movie?" The only thing he could really remember were snippets of the conversation, and a vague recollection of the movie poster when he decided to google it earlier. "I appreciate the offer, but my memory is just fine." He sighed, as he stood still struggling to recall anything about the book he needed.
