The Null Prism (Rock Lore Pt.2)

The Null Prism is a large black crystal that serves as the counterbalance to the Quri Crystals. Unlike its siblings that constantly cycle between absorbing and producing Quri, the Prism can only produce a sort of "anti-Quri", which neutralizes any Q-particles it comes into contact with.

Due to the nature of this ability, it is dangerous for full-blood and hybrid Edeans to come into direct contact with the Prism as Quri is an integral part of their natural biology. Prolonged exposure to it by these groups can result in hypoqumia. More commonly known as "Null Infection", it is a condition wherein the sudden drop in Quri hinders neurological activity. Curiously, the development of a "Null Type"* has also been observed.

At present, the Null Prism is believed to lie at somewhere at the bottom of Edea's oceans. Theories suggest that the moderate Quri-neutralizing effect of seawater and the ocean breeze can be attributed to the Prism's presence.

The Toggle

The Null Prism has the pecuilar ability to switch the Quri Crystals between 0% to 100% activity (and vice-versa) in an instant. It is unknown how it does this. Historical research has observed that ancient Edean civilizations have utilized this power before. Once such tale describes how the Prism and Lightning crystal was used in tandem to simulate power over storms.

Regardless of how it works, retrieving the Null Prism is still a priority of the current surviving population, as they believe it might be their best chance at deactivating the rogue Quri Crystals.

The Quri Crystals (Rock Lore pt.1)

The Edea dimension's equivalent to the Chaos and Master Emeralds.

The origin of the crystals are unknown, only that they were around since at least during prehistoric times, and that they have played a key role in Edea's ecology and history. The crystals are a perpetual source of Quri, the energy found within all native Edean life. Each of the six crystal emits a different type of Quri, corresponding to the six main Edean types: Lightning, Ice, Fire, Chemical, Light, and Sound.

The amount of Quri released when in Active Form is deadly at close vicinity, so special equipment is required to handle them. The crystal's "core" glows brightly when active.

In Neutral Form, the crystals emit little to no Quri on their own. A certain amount of Quri can still be extracted, but nowhere near as powerful as when it is active. The crystals are safe to handle directly in this form. Their "cores" will be dark in this form.

Active and Neutral Forms

The Quri Crystals naturally move between Active and Neutral states over the course of years, or even decades.

The transition is similar to that of a wind-up toy:

A Neutral crystal gathers quri from its surroundings, slowly gaining energy until it is "fully winded". It then becomes Active, and the internal activity of the crystal causes it to produce large amounts of Quri.

Despite producing energy, The crystal cannot "feed" itself. And so, it naturally slows down over time due to losing inertia and becomes Neutral. It then needs to be rewinded.

It is possible to toggle them manually using the Null Prism (the Master Emerald equivalent).

There is an alternate, more egregious method. The one that was utilized during the Planetary War period: Gathering a enormous amount of Quri and blasting it directly into the crystal. This method is the equivalent of using an industrial drill to wind up a toy.

The surge in power "jumpstarts" the crystal and changes it to Active Form, and for a MUCH longer period of time than what is natural. The downside to this, of course, is that is that it's seemingly impossible to stop aside from waiting it out--which, 250 years later, the Edeans still are.

A brief introduction and history of Edea

Edea is the name of the planet Comet and co. are from. However, it may also refer to the dimension itself (depending on the context, of course.)

Similar to how Sonic’s dimension has Chaos energy, Edea has a “special energy” of its own: Quri. All native life on the planet have it as a natural part of their biology. An equivalent to the Chaos Emeralds also exist in the form of the 7 Quri Crystals and the Null Prism (which mirrors the Master Emerald).

The native race on Edea are of course, called Edeans. These are the regular anthropomorphized animal folk we’re all familiar with. Some “mythical” creatures exist as regular species (such as unicorns, jackalopes, and kirin). On the flipside, some regular species don’t exist on Edea (koalas and certain insect species, for example).

Alongside them are the Edean Black Arms which arrived and settled on the planet a long time ago.

Post-Apocalyptic State

Edea used to be lively like Mobius. However, in the aftermath of a global nuclear war approximately 250 years ago, most of the planet’s surface was rendered uninhabitable due to being covered with dangerously high levels of Quri. The reasoning for how or why the war started is never discussed.

The oversaturation continues due to all of the Quri Crystals are stuck producing energy at various points around the globe; abandoned in factories that used them as a power source for weaponry. Without the still-active Quri Crystals, Edea’s natural cycles would have brought the level Quri down to normal after a century or two.

Survivors of the war and the apocalypse are scattered throughout Edea. There are underground bunker cities and the space colonies, which were built before/during the war. There are also isolated survivor camps—some of which have grown strong enough to be towns of their own.

Comet is from one of the space colonies; named Ark Elysium. Teo and his friends are from a town that started out as a survivor camp.
