Two Fanbindings of Andy Weir's Project Hail Mary (one in english, one in german) as a coupled twin-binding for me and my bestie who went to see the movie with me immediately when I expressed my wish for it! (Which is why the location mark is blacked out, thats the cinema we went to!)
While browing I saw these two papers and knew i needed to use them for endpapers. This also sparked my wish to bind this book at all. It took me around two months from conception to finished product.
The bookcloth is Wooqu's starry black bookcloth and it is positively SPARKLY in real life - pictures dont really do it justice. My first time using the Silhouette cutter too, and thus also my first time using HTV. A game changer, honestly. I really enjoy how it looks.
I made Andy Weir's Eridian worldbuilding notes into a mini book!
Normally my title pages include my actual city and the date in roman numerals (to mimic the look of traditionally published books), but I am already binding worldbuilding notes; I might as well go full nerd. The page numbers are also in Eridian numbers (affinity publisher cannot automate page numbers in base six; fortunately it's only 231 91 pages long) .
I came up with a heading style before I realized that some headings were much longer than would fit on a single line, but I think the two-line version ended up looking alright for the most part!
I made a slight edit to the text because Andy Weir used red text to tell base 6 numbers apart from base 10 numbers but I was printing in black and white. Rather than messing with a different font I decided to just use the Eridian numerals for base 6, which meant they needed to be defined earlier in the text, so I changed one line and moved one sentence earlier by a couple of paragraphs.
I really wanted to use the nature magazine font (Harding) but I have not been able to locate a copy of that font file anywhere, so I used Marcellus (from google fonts) which is a little bit similar.
Cannot stop makes little things! These wee books have flower illustrations on their covers, floral embroidery on their spines and a tiny seed packet pocket inside.
So there I was, scrolling through the drivinglessons tag, and this fancomic came up and immediately grabbed my attention. A comic about Driver and Grace? Where Grace is a science idol? And Driver being a fan?
I immediately sought to make a bind of this fancomic. Specifically, it made me want to try hardcover pamphlet binding after a year since I last did such a format. For the covers, I stuck together pieces of leftover mounting boards and wrapped them with Japanese craft paper (because these boys deserve fancy things). I also sought to add-in the Tumblr post itself as well as some replies and tags from readers, as a way of preserving the fan culture surrounding this crossover.
Since it was so long since I tried hardcover pamphlets, I made some mistakes here and there. I also wished I had more space to put in more replies and tags by readers. But overall, I declare this fancomic bedighted!
Spent a ridiculous amount of time last night obsessively editing my hand written zines in Photoshop to take away any tiny blemishes so they were definitely readable.
Introducing The Dabbling Shepherdess Bindery Fanfiction Classics Collection 📚
Confession - as much as I love making beautiful hardcover binds, I will always prefer to read a paperback. So for my all time favorite fics that I read again and again I am creating a paperback collection!
Starting off with a Wolfstar Classics edition of The Fall by EuripidesTrousers (wow, who saw that coming?) and a Jegulus Classics edition Sweet Poison by damagecontrol. I have chosen to go with the style of Penguins Classics almost purely because I cannot wait to have a (somewhat) uniform shelf-full and for someone to go “oh, you read a lot of classics” because YES I DO. 😜
Please feast your eyes on the work of my very good and talented friend @boltlightning, who surprised me by turning my Dorian in DA2 long-fic into a real live physical book!
Because bolt is a bookbinding genius, it includes so many cool details... It's stamped with the Kirkwall seal! Stitched with a peacock-blue headband! And peacock-inspired endpaper! And subtle Hawke-red accents in the design!
...And a stupid title I sure didn't picture in elegant print when I chose it for a laugh! But look how beautiful it looks now. (bolt even legitimized my stupidity by adding the canon banter as a lovely epigraph! How perfect is that?)
Also: My overthought new translations and food lore incorporated as footnotes and appendices! Now that's a true friend who listens to my brainrot. (please don't encourage me, bolt)
And finally: This beautiful art I commissioned from @the-upper-shelf with Hawke and Dorian in Kirkwall-non-mage disguise, placed as the endpiece to the epilogue ♥♥♥ IT LOOKS SO GOOD.

I can't quite describe the feeling of carting a hefty block of my own words around the house, but I couldn't be happier. 10/10. Recommend realizing your creative work in physical form so you can cradle it like a baby. Thank you, bolt, you are a genius.
Butcher`s Crossing by John Williams.
The story follows William Andrews, a young Harvard student who leaves his life behind to explore the American West. The book begins and ends in the fictional frontier town of Butcher's Crossing, Kansas, in the early 1870s, where Andrews joins a buffalo-hunting expedition. He and the people he meets along the way must confront and survive the brutal realities of nature in their attempts to get buffalo hides to sell. Along the way, Andrews contemplates his purpose in life with respect to nature, specifically through the influence of Ralph Waldo Emerson.

World's Okayest Slipcase Tutorial (?) Part 1 with a lot of badly taken photos and explanation
A while ago me and @edelkirschehandmade were making Project Hail Mary rebinds at the same time, and both of us went the extra mile of making slipcases for it and during the whole process I created a step-by-step tutorial how to make one for edelkirsche in the @renegadeguild satellite channel
Part 1 will be how I made the casing and put them together
Part 2 will be how to glue the cloth on
I learned how to make slipcases by following DAS video tutorial, but if you're like me and not the biggest fan of video tutorial, I will try my best to explain my steps here.
This is not a 1:1 tutorial of DAS slipcase tutorial, this is how I have been making mine. I also use various tool I purchased from Schmedt/iBookbinding that help me keeping the pieces in place when assembling. I will also link them in my posts (nothing is sponsored, needed to hit Schmedt's minimum order amount couple of times and grabbed them.)
So the very first thing you should do is measure your book and write it down on paper. Make sure you are measuring from different spots, as book binding is a manual process and sometimes the measurement can vary by 1-2mm. Write down the biggest measurement you get
I write down the measurements for the TOP/BOTTOM and SPINE piece, and add ~3-4mm. This is to account for the inside paper lining thickness and bookcloth when you fold it over the edge.
Adding too many extra mm could make the slipcase too loose and your book will slip out very easily, and making it too tight means you can't put the book in without having to use force and risk damaging the book and slipcase. My slipcases do tend to end a wee bit on the snug side, still easy to push in but need to shake a few times to get the book out, so I usually add a ribbon to the case to make it easier to remove the book.
DAS measures all the pieces at once. For the FRONT and BACK pieces, you'll have to account in the board thickness into the measurement too, so the math is something like
board thickness*2 + SPINE Length
and the width is 140mm (same as TOP/BOTTOM Length)
BUT, I am bad at math. I had to redo the FRONT and BACK pieces for slipcases soooo many times now I just assemble the SPINE - TOP - BOTTOM pieces first, measure the total from there and then cut the FRONT and BACK. If you hate cutting, and you're more confident in your measurement and math you can also cut the front and back piece at this stage
Another important thing to keep in mind is the grain direction of the board, when you're cutting the pieces the grain direction should be running like this:
Once the pieces are cut, I glue them onto the inside paper lining. Make sure that here the grain direction is also running the same as the board pieces:
After that is done and I have cut the pieces from the paper, I start assembling it:
Make sure that the SPINE piece is sandwiched between the TOP/BOTTOM pieces. A cleaner visual of what I mean by that:
I use the following tools to keep boards in place while the glue is drying:
Magnetic corner clamp, 90°
Corner clamp with guide grooves
Corner clamp, 90°
Once that done, I note down the measurements for the FRONT/BACK pieces:
As I mentioned before, the formula for the FRONT/BACK Length is
board thickness*2 + SPINE Length
my boards are 2.5mm thick
my SPINE length is 213mm
so that means 2.5mm*2 + 213mm = 218mm (which is also the measurement my ruler is giving me yay me)
the width for the FRONT/BACK is 140mm (same as TOP/BOTTOM Length)
Once again, make sure the grain direction of your board is correct, glue the inside paper lining to the board
aaaand it's assmebling time!
I like to use my 3kg coin box as a weight for pressing the board pieces down lmfao
After the glue is dry, your slipcase should look like this:

The author (@the-stars-will-do-the-telling) received their copy so I can post! A fanbind of The Long Way Home by itsnatalie, using the typeset by @sammialex (Fingerpaint the Dawn Bindery).
I asked my friend @jerslix for their favorite fic to bind and they chose this one, so of course I had to read it before I bound it and it is a lovely, haunting, forge-a-friendship-in-adversity Tim Drake & Jason Todd fic. It is centered around a labyrinth, which became a big element of the design as you can tell. I was especially proud of how I fit the little Red Hood and Red Robin symbols into the Os on the spine. :-) The pullquote on the back winds a path through the labyrinth.
Black bookcloth from Amazon I think, metallic foils, endpapers from Sustain and Heal on etsy I believe, and bookmark charms from Michael's.
I re-bound another book. This time, Project Hail Mary as a birthday gift for my boyfriend. The image in the window is a photo of the surface of the sun courtesy of NASA.
I decorated the endpapers with a heat pen and gold foil.
Sunless Knights by MacBudgie / @mushroomlasagna - a Hollow Knight/Sunless Skies crossover!! Casebound in folio. One copy for me, one copy for the author. Both games have very unique aesthetics, so I had fun figuring out ways to incorporate the iconography into the design.
I’ve wanted to bind For His Eyes Only since the first time I read it, and finally here it is! It’s not perfect but I’ve put so much love to it, I really wanted to share it here on tumblr specially at times like these 😭 (after the GO3 nightmare), thank you @afrenchwriter for your amazing writing and your presence on this fandom ❤️ it’s always a pleasure to create something inspired from your work or in this case to materialize it.
