did not realize how much working full time + school would exhaust me. i'm absolutely cooked every single day. but on the bright side, i have a 99 and a 97 in my two classes rn, so that's nice.
Trying to learn the C language. Don't know what I'm doing. Might cry later s2 s2

first day of class was yesterday. i remember in undergrad my 3-hour lectures used to feel like torture, but now they fly by.
met a few friends who are all younger than me (cries). most of my class is straight from undergrad, which means they generally have less corporate experience than i (and the few over-thirties) have.
pictured here the free starbies from the machine in the caffeine corner and a gift from the husband. business binch tip: layer libre with glossier you. it smells amazing and lasts HOURS.

finally got my official offer letter today! business-broad word of advice, whenever you get offered a job or are given a promotion, make sure you get an offer letter to sign. this will keep your company honest about pay and job responsibilities. if it's not on paper, it never happened!!!
i also received my textbooks; only two because i only have two classes per semester, which is nuts to think about when i used to take four a semesters in undergrad and STILL worked 35 hours a week. they're so small, too. idk why i was expecting like a big mcgraw-hill monster.
i've been toying with the idea of using my tiktok to give advice/perspective about someone in their thirties returning to university after being in the work force for 8 years. not really interested in growth or anything, just sort of sharing my progress in an effort to hold myself accountable in my studies.
i also randomly fell into a fake finance guru rabbit hole, which led to a stocks rabbit hole, and now i find i'm interested in investment banking and finance. who knew?

start date is fast approaching, for the new job & classes. i had a business mentor panel last night and met some really nice people that may be able to get me into an internship with a top 15 firm (can u imagine).
did my health audit today and made 3 different appointments, dentist, pcp, and dermatologist. get all that stuff out of the way before i get bogged down with assignments.
i'm actually going to allow myself to sit down and play some ffxiv today (and get the little ladies' day emote). i've probably been kicked from my fc because it's been weeks since i've logged in.

buying a car is the most stressful thing you can do to yourself tbqh. went through hours being held hostage negotiating prices and drinking terrible coffee, but the end result is pretty nice. now i have a ride to get me to and from class. i'm also going to be doing yoga and pilates at school, so she'll get plenty of usage.
now just gotta think of a name for her (my first reaction was anya)
side note: i love that low exposure is now a "trend" on social media. it hides the fact that i'm still using an iphone 11.

quick update featuring a bento and some interesting veggies.
finally got my financial aid situated with school starting in a few weeks. been applying to scholarships like crazy -- i've got about 30 in my list atm. training my replacement at work, should be moving into my new role around the second week of march (thank god).
went to my local ren faire yesterday and got sunburnt, which kind of sucks, but at least i got some vitamin d in my system and a bag of kettle corn in return.
life is so busy rn that i haven't played a video game in like two weeks. which is good and bad. good because i've been more productive, bad because i do really enjoy gaming. but i'll have time for that during school breaks.
anyway, i hope everyone has been having a nice february. it's hot here and i wish i lived further north :/

every time i try a new indian dish, they're always better than the last one. today was malai kofta and it's just....so so good. literally indian cuisine does not miss.
pending course registration due to not being able to find my immunization records until i went out on a limb and asked my undergrad university if they still had them and they did! alleluia. the graduate experience has been so nice in comparison -- i have my own personal guidance couselor who registers me for my classes, makes sure all my financials are in order, lets me know if there are networking events to go to etc. the whole process has been amazing and i'm literally so ready to go to school. the executive education department has their own building and it's so high-tech and quiet and private.
i also (yay!) got my promotion & raise! pending transition between departments and finding someone to take my place. there are already some colleagues coming to me with interest in taking over my offices, which is amazing. the sooner i can start, the better.
for the first time in a long time, i have a true 5 year plan with steps made to get there. it feels wonderful. i don't do well without any sort of structure.
next big step is getting a car. used car prices are insane rn, which makes things a bit difficult, but the raise should definitely help.
anyway, pictured above is my cat dolores and (maybe) john harvard (it's a long story.)

i hope everyone had a lovely valentine's day! i went to a nice dinner with the husband, outfit and flowers featured here. dolores decided to put her butt on my vintage buffalo leather jacket.
transition into my new role at work has been going pretty quickly -- should be starting my training in about two weeks.
i took a little personal admin day to get my student ID and parking stuff from school as well as some scholarships to apply to.
life advice from your local hag: take a personal admin day every once in a while to make sure all of your stuff is in order -- go to the DMV, doctor, post office, whatever is only open while you're at work. trust me.
winter break 🌟

yet ANOTHER aptitude test assigned by my job just to see if i can, like, do math or something. 3 years in QA must not have been enough.
i had to help my elderly aunt navigate the needlessly complex online world of modern medicine. i really want to talk to the person who insists that your senior patients totally know how to make an account on your brand new CRM website. what if they don't have a computer? are you gonna do it for them? what if they don't have a cell phone for you to send your verification texts? i currently work in medicine and i have so so so so many concerns and complaints surrounding the state of the medical industrial complex these days, but that's one of those things i could give a powerpoint presentation on.
a note on the book featured: i hate self help. i think the whole industry is a scam (i'm a cynic, sorry.) however, i would venture to say this book is worth the buy/borrow (i only bought the hard copy because i'm sharing it with my husband and giving it to my brother in law). at least if you actually follow some of the actionable changes he suggests. i will say it's helped me a bit.
ps: don't look at the date, i'm posting it a day late rip.

the not-so-sexy aesthetic part of scholastics and academia: applying for financial aid.
i got this brand of coffee because sojiro from persona 5 uses blue mountain jamaican beans at leblanc and i'm easily influenced. i don't think i'm good enough at coffee yet to really appreciate the difference between this and, like, regular pre-ground coffee but i'm sure i'll get there.
had about an hour long meeting with the controller of my company about me taking a new position in the accounting department and (i think) i got the promotion. just waiting on a one-on-one with one of the other staff accountants and the offer letter. side note: negotiating salary is highly stressful.
i have my meeting with my graduate advisor tomorrow to get registered for classes. more meetings in the last week than i've had in like 6 months. i've been wearing blouses over my nightgowns.

i'm not a religious person. i can't even say i'm agnostic. i don't really go to church because i believe in something, specifically. i go to church for the people, current and historical. i go for the peace and the beauty of the chapel. for the gentle handshakes and the "peace be with you"s. for the potluck dinners and evensongs.
i was baptized methodist by an equally irreligious mother, and took holy communion whenever i found myself with uncles or cousins at catholic mass. i was a rebellious wiccan, pagan, and atheist. i'm a child of many faiths and none of them ever really stuck with me. the only epiphany i've ever had was reading buddhist thought or meditating on philosophies and observations.
but every sunday i put on some nice clothes, do my hair, and go sing hymns with people.
01.30
pretty normal work day. spent most of the morning going back and forth with admissions over my letters of recommendation...which i apparently don't need for the professional track. well, i have them anyway so they'll be seeing them. they were such a pain to get ahold of you WILL perceive my letters.
finally hopped on the animal crossing new horizons train and met my best friend for a tour of her amazing island. she of course took pity on my poverty-stricken self and donated some recipes. but it was seriously so fun running around with her and chatting. she lives on the other side of the country so we don't see each other as often as we'd like.
the recruiter at my current job reached out to me to see if i wanted to do some aptitude testing for an open position in the accounting department, which i of course accepted. i don't know how much use i'll be in there, but it doesn't hurt to try.
have an unrelated picture of my cat!
