So like here’s a a random thought I just had, it might be the route that the show takes but it might also not.
As we already know, it’s been revealed that Lance will not like Lotor, everyone getting excited because they think this is probably jealous Lance and Lotor is trying to “get with Keith”. I don’t think that’s even close to it.
Keith and Lotor are both half galra, this is what I believe they’ll relate over as Keith has no one else to talk to about how horrible it is to pick a side and be two species that have a hate against each other. Lotor obviously having a worse time as one part of his species killed off the other.
Lotor and Keith will start to become friends, at first it’ll be a lot of discussing over the half galra thing but then they’ll come to learn they have more in common and then more and then more. Lance will get jealous, not in a romantic sense, but either because A) Keith grew fond of Lotor quicker than he did with Lance (who was also once his “rival”) or B) Keith will get so caught up with being Lotor’s friend that he’ll almost ignore Lance and all the other paladins.
But Lance also doesn’t like Lotor because he feels he has an evil plan, a plan to toy with the most vulnerable person of their coalition and a person that means a lot to the voltron team.
I don’t know 100% whether Lotor will have good or evil plans, but I feel it won’t be a good outcome. Lotor is all about himself, he doesn’t care for others and I don’t think he ever will with the way he was raised. No one can easily get away from that way of life just because one person understands them. Keith is obviously a big character of the whole series, they will hit him the hardest so to make Lotor toy with him to get information is not something they wouldn’t think about.
You also all need to keep in mind, despite Lotor “not caring” about his parents they’re still his parents, you may hate them but you still want them to accept you. How would Zarkon feel if his son came back to him with the whereabouts of earth and how to destroy that planet? What if his son learns everything about earth from a boy who is saddened that half of identity is trying to destroy the other half?
Keith is smart, I know he is, but when his emotions come into play instinct is what he goes on. His Vlog showed that he cries even when he tries hard not to, the red lion he had a bond with acts on instinct, he went to sacrifice himself without thought. Keith will reveal how the human species is, he will describe earth, he’ll look it up on the castle and show Lotor how far away it really is. Keith WILL make a mistake due to his sadness, I believe this is why the series has been building up on how sad he really is. Each season that goes by you see how emotional he really is, that he’s not just some hot headed jerk, there’s a reason why they would do this.
For one of the worst betrayals.
Now you ask why I brought up Lance, despite the lover boy persona they give him he’s actually very intelligent, he knew they should’ve left that planet when it was a trap set up by Haggar but no one listened to him. No one ever listens to Lance when he is right, so he will be right about Lotor and that he is toying with Keith but no one will listen because either Lotor is putting on the nice act, or Keith is showing up more to hang out with Lotor at the castle (like old times when he was a paladin, he’ll be around that much), or just because they know Keith is so tormented by being half galra they went to keep Lotor around as someone that can actually comfort him. Either way as always, the other paladins will be so blinded that they don’t listen to Lance when he’s right.
Then again this is just a thought I had, with all my thoughts I write them down and post immediately without having any actual show evidence that this will 100% happen. I don’t claim it will happen but it could be possible they do something along these lines. I should just turn my account into a voltron conspiracy by now.
