Yellow Belly - Englandâs Best Beer Re-released
Last year's Rainbow Challenge brought about seven amazing beers, however Yellow Belly, the stunning collaboration between Buxton Brewery and Swedish brewery Omnipollo received the greatest plaudits - currently being rated the best beer in England on beer rating website Untappd.
It has now been re-brewed for the first time since the initial release last September, and this limited number of bottles will only be available directly from the brewery via online craft beer marketplace, EeBria.com, and at the Buxton Tap House, the brewery's own tap room, from Friday 22nd May.
The Rainbow Challenge, which is the brainchild of Ryan Witter-Merithew from Siren Craft Brew, brings together 14 breweries to make 7 collaborative beers themed on the colours of the rainbow. In 2014, Buxton Brewery drew âYellowâ out of the hat and were teamed up with Stockholm based Omnipollo.
They all sat down and discussed what they could brew based on the idea of  âYellowâ. After some time, they arrived at the consensus that the prime meaning or idea expressed by the colour yellow is cowardice. The next challenge was to transpose this idea, and their sentiments around it, into a beer.
This 11% ABV peanut butter biscuit imperial stout was brewed as a celebration of all things new, open minded and progressive, in reaction to the cowardly deeds of those acting anonymously and hiding behind a group, those that deserve to be called 'yellow belly'.
The political situation throughout Europe was in turmoil with growth of far-right political parties such as the National Front, Sverigedemokraterna, British National Party, EDL, Dansk Folkeparti, Vlaams Belang, Lega Nord, Fremsrittspartiet, Sannfinländarna, Golden Dawn... the list goes on and on. From Omnipolloâs Henok Fentie; âOne thing that struck us while the preliminary political polls where being presented during election night was that the actual support for the Swedish fascist party was in reality 40% higher than what people had disclosed when asked (face to face) what they voted for just after casting their ballot.  At the same time the polls were more or less accurate when it came to other parties on the political scale.â  What does this mean? One thing that it could mean is that although people vote extreme right they are on average not as prone to admitting to it as people voting for other parties are.  Being a coward can mean many different things, but protesting anonymously at the expense of peopleâs freedom and right to co-exist without showing your face is one meaning that is particularly relevant at this moment in time.
So, with all this in mind, for their âYellowâ beer, they made an 11% Peanut Butter and Biscuit Imperial Stout. Except there are no peanuts or biscuits in it. And then they dressed it in the most hateful, cowardly-anonymous costume they know of.
This beer, whilst attempting to make a commentary on the current political winds blowing through Europe, is above all, meant to be enjoyed as a celebration of all things new, open minded and progressive. Taste, enjoy and donât be prejudiced.
The re-release of this fantastic beer has caused a lot of excitement and we can't wait for more people to have their minds opened by this very special beer. Due to limited stock levels, sales will be limited to 6 bottles of Yellow Belly per customer to ensure that as many people who want to experience it will be able to. We also have an exclusive Buxton mixed case available, featuring 2 bottles of Yellow Belly alongside other Buxton favourites like Axe Edge, Moor Top and Wild Boar.
