Quick little Priere la pucelle sketch
I'm visiting some dear friends of mine this week, and all of us have at least one disability. While we were eating breakfast this morning we were discussing the impact medication has on our lives.
I was sharing how difficult everything was for me when I had moved to a new city where the cost of housing was much more expensive and I couldn't afford medication. Over the course of the year, my energy deteriorated rapidly. First I couldn't keep up with my job, then I couldn't keep up with housework, then I couldn't keep up with basic hygiene, and eventually even chewing and swallowing became difficult. Sometimes walking to the train, I thought about lying down on the side of the road and how long it would take before a cop would force me to move. I wanted to die but I didn't even have the energy to figure out how.
My friend asked me if I had chronic fatigue. I don't know, because I was never diagnosed. I don't claim it because right now I'm very functional. I can keep up with hygiene, cook, clean, do work, and even exercise! But this is only possible from the combination of four different medications. Right now, I am extremely fortunate in that I have much of my medical expenses covered by my wife's health insurance that she has through work. I pay $415 USD every month for these things I need. I can never take this for granted because I know so vividly how difficult it is to survive without them.
It is perhaps evidence of my own self-absorbed perspective, but my own experience of going without medication (feeling first terrified and then hopeless) has made reading about the Israeli strategy of destroying healthcare infrastructure in Palestine particularly vivid and gutting to me.
I remember reading the book From the River to the Sea: Essays for a Free Palestine and absorbing some fraction of the devastation described by the essay "We Have Lost the Ability to Provide True Care: Three Doctors' Testimonies from Gaza." In this essay, Dr. Reda Abu Assi wrote: "We have lived through seven wars. In each war, we lost coworkers with who, we had memories. In each war, the medical services we were able to provide to patients deteriorated... We have run out of many life-saving drugs; we live on medical aid from abroad, and if it runs out, we have nothing to offer." That was written in October 2023, almost two full years ago.
When I was recovering from surgery earlier this year, I started texting with a guy in Palestine named Fadel (@fadel-dani). Like me, he also struggles with fatigue. For him he has an actual diagnosis--thalassemia, a blood disorder. Like me, he relies on medication for basic functioning, but his medicine is even more expensive than mine-- the equivalent of around $470 USD every month.
A few months after that essay "We Have Lost the Ability to Provide True Care" was written, Fadel experienced firsthand what Dr. Reda Abu Assi described. He survived a bombing of his home, and when he woke in a hospital, he learned they did not even have the supplies needed to remove the shrapnel from his body. They told him that he needed to get to a different country for urgent surgery. He set up a campaign to raise money for it, and had it vetted by @gazavetters (#197) and 90-ghost.

A lot of people follow this blog, and I have been trying to help him to get eyes on this campaign. I think about how isolated and defeated I felt when I couldn't afford healthcare, and it breaks my heart that he is experiencing something so much worse.
It's been so long since then, and he has only been able to raise €15,129 (around $17,700 USD) which is no where near enough. In that time, everything has only become more scarce and more expensive. He can't even think about the money from his fundraiser going to surgery, because he spends every month trying to figure out whether to spend the small amount of donations on his medication or on food.
He is in constant chronic pain from the shrapnel in his body, and he is so exhausted he is constantly dizzy and nauseated. I think about how suicidal I was the period of time I was so fatigued, and then I think about how minuscule my experience of exhaustion and hopelessness was in comparison to what Fadel is living with. The worst year of my life would literally be a relief to him in comparison with his current life, and he has no reassurance that there's any end to it. I truly can only imagine the enormity of exhaustion he feels every day.
The only thing that gives him a little bit of hope that this misery might end for him is receiving donations. Every donation reminds him that someone in the world cares that he's suffering and that there are people who believe he matters and deserves relief. I can't convey to you the difference it makes, even a single person caring enough to send a small amount.

If my words inspire any empathy or compassion in you at all, please donate something to him this week. Literally even a single dollar or euro makes a difference. You can do that. Leave some encouraging words in your reblog of this post or in the tags. I need to know someone is reading this and cares.
Please encourage others to read and share this post. Encourage them to donate. Add something in the tags. Please engage with what I'm saying here.
I have told you repeatedly that I am in dire need of help, and everyone is ignoring me. I hope you will help me so that I can buy my medicine as soon as possible, and so that we can buy some food so that we do not die of hunger or get killed when we go to get aid. Please have mercy on us and help us with a donation so that I can buy my medicine and some food. Please Donate.
My solution for bloatware is this: by law you should hire in every programming team someone who is Like, A Guy who has a crappy laptop with 4GB and an integrated graphics card, no scratch that, 2 GB of RAM, and a rural internet connection. And every time someone in your team proposes to add shit like NPCs with visible pores or ray tracing or all the bloatware that Windows, Adobe, etc. are doing now, they have to come back and try your project in the Guy's laptop and answer to him. He is allowed to insult you and humilliate you if it doesn't work in his laptop, and you should by law apologize and optimize it for him. If you try to put any kind of DRM or permanent internet connection, he is legally allowed to shoot you.
With about 5 or 10 years of that, we will fix the world.
lol some absolute dogshit in the notes

you cannot talk about the homophobic murder of jonathan joss without including in the conversation that he is indigenous.
american indian men are at the 2nd highest risk of death by murder compared to all other ethnic groups. in their lifetimes, 82% of native men report having experienced domestic violence. yet the overwhelming majority of perpetrators are non-natives (88% of native men and 92% of native women who reported violence said their attacker was non-native). what’s more, tribal governments are often stymied in their attempts to bring justice against non-natives, meaning that many of these cases go unresolved.
this was an intersectional attack. the fact that he is indigenous matters, even if the motivation was homophobic, because it made him even more vulnerable and disposable in the eyes of his killer.
as always, look into MMIWP to learn more, and speak up for us. miigwetch, take care

Today, at Ever Mile Foundation, we distributed clothes to a large number of children in need of clothing. They have lost all their rights in life, so the least we can do for them is something that will make them happy. So I ask you to donate what you can to feed them and provide for their basic needs.
Guys, we are on the verge of reaching our goal at the Ever Mile Foundation to feed the hungry in Gaza and also help eyad as well.

i still think one of tumblr's darkest moments (much worse than anything i've seen before and i have been here since 2011) was when random fandom bloggers started doing confidently accusing people living through a genocide of being scammers. i think there's a lot that has happened on this website but the juxtaposition of running something so trivial as a fandom blog (i have been in fandom for a long time and triviality here is not an insult but an understanding of what makes it light) while doing something so enormously heavy and dark has me reeling
there are not many moments in history when you could reach out and save someone from death from your bedroom tens of thousands of miles away. in fact, this is one of the first times this has happened on this scale, because this is a completely modern development in warfare. i think a lot about mahasen el khatib, who ran a blog on here and posted her gofundme here and made headlines around the world when she was killed in her home by israel.
you were given the opportunity to save someone from a holocaust with the click of a button and you scorned it. that's what gets me. you think the ease of the act means the dismissal of it must be equally small. but it isn't. the complete lack of fear, the lack of understanding the gravity of what they've taken part in is very disturbing to me
i think many of those bloggers still don't realize what a horrific thing they've done. some of them are even basking in the praise of "thank you for saying this" that other fools are giving them. some of them think they were being smart. instead they've added to the suffering of a people undergoing genocide. they have also doomed hundreds of thousands of users to believing ignorant cynicism and critical thinking are the same thing. and because of that, not only will people die, but the people who could have saved them won't do that. you've turned rescuers into bystanders, good people into doubters. just a shitshow all around
I work with a lesbian senior citizen who just found out that her social security payments don't start until a month later than she had thought that they would (they start mid June). Our hours have been cut at work, and I'm thankful enough to be in a position of living with family, but Sue is on her own and struggling with rent and bills on top of trying to get groceries and take care of her cat that she's had for many years.
She's shared her gofundme on her facebook page with a few friends, family members, and coworkers but not many people have access to a more public platform like this. So I'm sharing her page on my blog in the hopes that it will reach more people.
She's truly a wonderful and kind woman and I know she would give up the clothes on her back to help someone else who was struggling, and if anyone can help her out I can't imagine how much she would appreciate it.
this is the link to her gofundme
She does have a paypal, but she isn't totally comfortable just putting it online and it's still kind of new to her. But the gofundme page is the best option for any kind of donations. Thank you for reading, and if you can't donate I would appreciate a share if possible! I'd love to spread this around and try to get her out of the spot she's in!
She's so close to her goal! I talked to her at work on Thursday and she was the happiest I've seen her in a long time so thank you so much to everyone who donated and who shared this post! She doesn't really understand what tumblr is but she couldn't believe that a few anonymous people were willing to help out a stranger so much!
Her rent was paid for the month of May and thankfully her landlord is aware and understanding of the situation, but she still won't get her Social Security until after it's due in June ($400 for rent). But she also still needs to reach her goal for the extra things SNAP (food stamp) can't buy like cat food/litter and other bills.
I can't wait to see her again at work though and it's wonderful to see her feeling so happy and not feeling overwhelmed and afraid. It's like meeting a whole different version of her. Thank you from me as well to everyone sharing this post and donating to Sue. You have made such a difference for a kind old woman.
so much emphasis has been placed on whether AI-generated content is "art" or "stealing" when like the more pertinent thing to me is that these are technologies that large portions of the ruling class are investing in, designing, and mobilizing around because they see its potential to accumulate more capital through marketing hype, break state institutions to advance the cause of minarchy, undermine the power of the laboring classes, and control ideological narratives by generating disinformation on a mass scale. but on the plus side, petty grifters can also use it to earn passive income by producing industrial amounts of Internet spam
the ffxi 23rd anniversary is great. new wallpaper, free mog bonanza coupon, vanabout, prishe boots (and the cute way to get +1), and my wife and i actually have more ppl to play with!
Yesterday, Nader @abdalsalam2000 witnessed three people martyred and multiple injured from an explosion in his displacement site in Gaza. You can read his description of what happened in more detail in his post here. It’s not the first time, and it unfortunately most likely won’t be the last time he has to see something like this. This is the reality of his life in Gaza under the occupation. No one should have to experience this, and especially not a seventeen year old. Nader has lost many relatives and his home in the past one and a half years, and has been displaced more than ten times. All of this at only seventeen years old.
He is raising money to support his family of eight, which includes one year old Iman and his father Ahmed who has cancer. It’s very urgent to get Ahmed the healthcare he needs and evacuate as soon as the border opens, especially because he hasn’t had access to treatment for a long time because of the destruction of the healthcare system. Food is also extremely expensive in Gaza now.
Please help Nader and his family survive this genocide ❤️🇵🇸 Donate and/or share this post so it can reach people who are able to donate. You can help give Nader hope in these devastating circumstances

The situation here is more than tragic. There are no open crossings and no aid entering Gaza, which leads to a scarcity of food and an increase in its price. My full story 🙏💔
I'm Areej I was an English teacher and a creative writer at we are not numbers before war and everything change after October 7. Also I'm a creative writer at we are not numbers.
Dear my kind donors!
I am a mother of three children. We have lived through the war for a year and a half, and we have lost everything we own. My husband is a man who did not work. Before the war, I did not have a breadwinner or any source of income. During the war I didn't give up to teach so I volunteered and had good chance to help some students to get engaged again with English in a very creative way.
Please Save those innocent kids from war 🥺‼️🙏🙏
We are in tents for almost two years because our home was destroyed and my kids are starving now with no enough food 😭‼️🥺After our several evacuation from place to another. Now we don't have a house after it was destroyed by missiles. I now ask you to help me rebuild my house. And buy basics for the daily essentials for my children and I need money so that we can stand up again and start again.
This war wasn't easy at all it has taken many friends at work, students and some of my colleagues at the university. They are almost ten souls I won't never forget . Their laughter, their presence, their love… all of it is gone, leaving behind memories that are both precious and painful. Every day, I carry the weight of their loss, but I also carry their spirit, which gives me the strength to keep going.
My lovely students before war 🥺
My lovely home 💔💔‼️
Here’s what life in Gaza looks like for my family right now:
🏠 Safety: The uncertainty of tomorrow weighs heavily on us.
😢 Loss: The absence of my students and my friends is really hurts.
💔 Dreams on Hold: The future feels so far away when survival takes all our strength.
Note to mention the other very expensive essential goods. I hope you will stand by me to get food
The crossings boarders are closed again these days and war return in Gaza. The crossing through which food enters has been closed for more than 30 days. We have nothing to eat, and even if we do, the prices are exorbitant. Some of the prices listed are:
1 kg of meat = $100 now there is no meat
1 chicken = 70$ there is no chicken
1 kg of fish = 100$ now it costs 200$
1 bag of flour = $200 now it costs 600$
1 kg of cooking gas = $150 now it costs 1000$
1 kg of sugar = $50
1 kg of eggplant = $20
1 kg of onions = $50
1 kg of tomatoes = $20
