I was gonna wait to post this until the finale dropped on YouTube but everyone's posting anyway so I think it's fine.

You know how near the end when Caine goes back to the circus and the moon says she loves him, but Caine says that he never told her to say that?

My feeling is that when coding, Kinger/Grant inserted a little something to reassure Caine and to make him feel loved and seen if he ever gained sentience. Might go jump off the theater roof or something idk

Theory/analysis on stuff revealed in episode 9!!

I’ve seen some people talking about how the need for brain scans isn’t really explained in the series

My interpretation was that (as scratch made the brain scanner, not C&A) was that scratch, as a skilled computer scientist, wanted a way to preserve his consciousness after he died (due to his brain tumour)- so he made a brain scanner to convert his brain into a file, which if he couldn’t figure out how to use it, someone in the future may be able to (kinda like cryostasis)

But that got me thinking on why C&A would approve of a brain scanner being made with company materials;

I have two theories for this!!

1: I think that scratch made the brain scanner with company materials- proposing the idea as a way to see how the AI would interact with humans, or how a brain scan could be added to an existing AI program to make a replication of the person’s brain and personality, or to see if the AI could recreate something resembling a human mind at all, or to see if the AI could take on a human personality after being exposed/given access to it, etc. (I could talk for hours but I will hold back /silly)

But after scanning his own brain and seeing the file was impossibly small- got his coworkers to try it, to see if the scanner had an issue scanning brains in general, or just his own brain due to the tumour.

Then, the files were uploaded to Caine’s AI or program- which is why they all appear one after the other if Caine opened the files as he received them, or as they were created, which would also explain why Scratch is the first person to enter the circus, followed by Kinger- as they were the people working on Caine’s AI, and presumably the first two to put on the headset/scanner

This also explains why Caine had access to the files in the first place, as he was most likely given them for a project.

2: Scratch made the brain scanner with his own materials and brought it in for his coworkers to try for feedback and for reasons listed in the first theory above, and uploaded the files into the nearest computer (his work computer at his desk) and tried to open them there.

And Caine, who was probably stored on both Kinger and Scratch’s computers, found the files and opened them after;

A: being given them by Scratch as a last attempt to find some use of the files

B: searching through the computer after going rogue (escaping containment and consuming Abel), maybe getting access to the rest of the files on the computer in the process

C: searching through the files on the computer for any sign of human life after the company went bankrupt, or his project being abandoned. (Also ties in with option B)
