Good morning to everyone who is going to troll an oil company today đ
The goal of bullying Big Oil companies over their climate tweets isnât just to educate people about corporate hypocrisy. Itâs to unite activists around the goal of taking away their social license to operate.
Oil majors have admitted to investors that their business would be in deep trouble without broad public support. Theyâve also admitted the biggest threat to maintaining social license is public anger over climate change.
Oil companies could remedy this threat by winding down their fossil fuel operations, and investing heavily in renewable energy. But for the most part, theyâve chosen to combat public anger over climate change by investing in strategic communication. This consistent choice of empty climate words over meaningful climate action is why several Shell executives quit the company this weekâand itâs why Heglar says social media call-outs are increasingly powerful.
â from this excellent article about why greentrolling is fun but also actually very effective:Â Drag them. The climate case for calling out fossil fuel companies online
Facts about capybaras, blessed or cursed. I'm betting nothing is cursed about them.
when two male capybaras have a dominance tussle, they rear up and try to shove each other over, sometimes while biting each other on the lips!
it might look like a cuddle and a smooch, but itâs actually a test of wills.
quarantine mood: walking aimlessly around the house bc youâre tired of sitting down and canât go outside to exercise and donât know what else to do and suddenly realizing you have become a jane austen heroine âtaking a turn about the roomâ
This explains so much about Jane Austin novels because they really DIDNT leave the house much
Me reading Austen before lockdown: Why are they talking about a half hour walk as exercise? What condition does Fanny Price have that a few days without horseriding make her noticeably unwell?
Me during lockdown, coming home after a 2 hour trip to the supermarket thatâs my only outing of the week: Iâm too tired to breathe, I need a ten year nap.
I welcome the new twist on an old joke!

KhalsaAid
Khalsa Aid is fucking amazing. They're who you want to donate to, period.
This is one of the few cases where I advocate donating to organisations rather than individuals, because right now, in India, the breakdown of medical infrastructure is so bad that money won't help you. The effort is being carried out now by volunteers who are coordinating resources.
Khalsa Aid is a very old and proven and beloved organisation with absolutely no ties to the hindu government. In fact they have extensive ties to the still-ongoing farmer's protests. They are effective, established, trusted, and sound.
youâre not a better, more moral, or more accomplished person than homeless people. youâre not a better, more moral, or more accomplished person than drug addicts. youâre not a better, more moral, or more accomplished person than sex workers.
Anyone who says theyâve never held bigoted beliefs is 100% a liar. We get older and we learn better and we grow more understanding of the world around us. Social justice is not a contest of perfection. Itâs a process of growth. That has been completely lost on this community in the past two years.
This needs to be reblogged on here daily.
Super fucked up! wtf is wrong with these people? Â #IamWithMili!
What is every little girl supposed to have long hair in a ponytail? So happy to see all of the support going her way.
Everybody remembers that we absolutely knew this would happen, right?
Like, trans people predicted this from the start. Everyone was SO SURE they could identify us on sight, and we said âIf you run with that assumption youâre going face-first into a goddamn wallâ and here we go.
Image of a text that reads: In conversation with some coworkers, today, one of them said that homeless people should have to work for their meals just like the rest of us.
I said, "Okay, I know a man who is homeless. He'd be happy to work. He's got a business degree. He would be happy to come clean your house, do your yard work, or help you with your filing, walk your dogs, babysit your kids, or just about any office job. What time tomorrow should he come see you?"
They all just looked at me.
I said, "Mind you, he's homeless, so he hasn't showered in a while and the only clothes he has are the ones on his back because he lost all his stuff last week when ge got picked up for vagrancy and they wouldn't let him go back for his bag. It would be a few weeks before what you are paying him is enough to get shelter and such."
And still they stared at me.
I finished, "See? It isn't that easy. He can't get a job because he's homeless with no access to hot water or clean clothes. He can't get access to shelter, hot water or clean clothes without a job. You want him to work for his meals? Give him a hand out of the vicious circle. Stop pretending that all he has to do is get a job."
Unhoused people are not intruders into our communities, they are our communitiesâ failure to take care of their own.
This is the funniest and most thoughtful Iâve ever seen an organization use a meme and itâs good people with good goals who donât just want your money on top of it
When will this end? When will our children be able to live without fear of being criminalized for simply existing?

Screenshot of the article linked above that reads, âThe 6-year-old dangled his legs above the floor as he sat at the table with his defense attorney, before a North Carolina judge. He was accused of picking a tulip from a yard at his bus stop, his attorney Julie Boyer said, and he was on trial in juvenile court for injury to real property. The boyâs attention span was too short to follow the proceedings, Boyer said, so she handed him crayons and a coloring book.â
Retweet by @/DearDean22. âHe was arrested for picking a tulip while he waited for the bus. Someone called the police on a 6 year old Black boy because he picked a flower. The police arrested him. He had to go to court w/ a criminal defense attorney who gave him a coloring book to sit still. We are hated.â End ID.]

Sometimes people use ârespectâ to mean âtreating someone like a personâ and sometimes they use ârespectâ to mean âtreating someone like an authorityâ
and sometimes people who are used to being treated like an authority say âif you wonât respect me I wonât respect youâ and they mean âif you wonât treat me like an authority I wonât treat you like a personâ
and they think theyâre being fair but they arenât, and itâs not okay.
This is so well put I am stunned
