she needed the sea

the sea feels like a hug

a cloud of salt

that holds you up

it feels like coming home

it feels like you can float on

and on and on

and slip away

dissolve into the waves

the sea feels like a dream

a peaceful dream

a piece of quiet space

within the stream

of restless time

a refuge from this reckless

life of mine

the sea is like a friend

it holds my memories

my tears

a thread into the past

that never disappears

I’m back at last

to drown my fears

in the clear waters of the sea

the sea is always there for me

the only place for me to be

where I am free

only no one has told her

that she came from the stars

summoned by our desires

for a spirit of heaven to walk among us

she travelled the distance between her world and ours

and landed one night in a field of dreams

but as soon as she heard

a deluge of man-made noises

a million human voices

memories started to fade and slip through her fingers

now only the faintest trace of them lingers

like a whisper of wind in the autumn leaves

the key to everything

or rather transformation

the energy that’s captured

seeks to be released

impression must express

or else

create something or perish

find a way

to let it out

to transform

what else is there?

survival to that end alone

desire to exist

perpetuation on its own

is void of meaning

creation is

the very point of us

there is no other purpose

to this masquerade

the pointless parade

this farce

the constant whirl

that’s going nowhere

but moving fast

and also not at all

and also everywhere

at sea

you came from the sea

it is only fitting that the waves took you

a rock, you stood against the tide

they broke you

ate at you

and your erodes shores fell underwater

the ocean drinks my tears

the sea blue - best blue

talks about you

it tells me you knew

all the things I didn’t say to you

and I hope

I hope that’s true

I will end my life at sea someday too

on the ocean floor I will find you

wait for me, daddy, beyond the horizon

I will wash off my sins in the salty waters

and rise - clean and new

the Mediterranean Sea

has become a home to you and me

a cradle that rocked us to sleep

it holds me now the way you held me

I don’t think I will ever be free

I have loved someone who looked just like you

spoke like you, felt like you

but I never did find you

not in anyone’s arms

but the ocean’s waves

its embrace is the only place

I have ever felt any trace of what we had been

how to be quarantined

we’ve been ordered to stay in

universal quarantine

the instructions have been plain

so to save you all some pain

here’s how not to go insane:

do not drink excessive wine

do not spend much time online

do not meet with anyone

don’t go out for a run

don’t go out for a walk

do not speak and do not talk

don’t go having any fun

don’t go bathing in the sun

don’t go dancing in the rain

do not whine and don’t complain

do not listen to the news

do not wear any shoes

do not laugh and do not weep

don’t wake up and do not sleep

if you really want to live

do not move and do not breathe

don’t stand up and don’t sit down

don’t tae space or be around

if you want to save the world

don't do anything at all

staying indoors is hard, i understand

you want to be free and you’re willing to take a stand

go and do it if you think it will be ok

too many old people around these days

you never really liked your grandma anyway

go on then, it’s not much worse than the flu

ten times more deadly, but what can you do?

go to that party, i’m sure it will be fine

it’s all fake news anyway - you read somewhere online

people aren’t really dying, it’s all a scam

go talk to someone, better yet shake their hand

you don’t have symptoms so you must not be sick

science is hard, why bother trying to think

just pretend it’s not happening, all is well

i’m sure the world will look grand from inside of a prison cell

we are lying in wait

as fear descended

and landed on our heads

we are hanging by threads

suspended

between two roads

with different ends

stuck on the fence

between safety and chaos

between two worlds

dying to know

which way it will go

exposed

the world is loud

it is a flood

it hurts like an assault

my eyes burnt out by the sun

burnt to the ground my heart

nowhere to run

the promises of paradise dissolved

into the storms

that rose up from my soul

they drowned me

they took me whole

and blew my sanity away

along with everything I know

or thought I knew that day

and the fever just kept rising

electric, volatile

energising

i’m bursting at the lightest touch

and colours are too bright

and everything’s too much

i am a wound

uprooted and disturbed

i am a nerve connected to the world

i am exposed

the shadows are at your door

if you want to keep seeing the sun

the dawn waits for no one

but it’s getting farther with every breath

you miss it - you don’t get it back
