Not sure I’d say I’m more articulate than but I am definitely more enraged. God this is really something. But I sort of love this comment because it means I get to play my favorite guessing game: racist, Republican, or both?

Part One: Are you racist?

Let me start by making one thing perfectly fucking clear: TABITHA DOES NOT ASK ANYONE FOR MONEY AT ANY POINT DURING THE EPISODE.

If you think she did, it means you INVENTED THAT SHIT IN YOUR OWN MIND. You saw a Black woman running a business get into financial trouble and other people WILLINGLY helping her out and your mind changed that to her begging other people for money and expecting it to be given to her.

This leads me to one inescapable conclusion, but I’ll let my sidekick, Social Justice Warrior-Cat give it to you:

Seriously, I get that you may not like Tabitha, but for a moment consider that your mind invented her doing something she didn’t do that is steeped in unhealthy racist stereotypes. Either you are an outright racist or you have some very serious subconscious biases that you need to deal with.

And also let’s address the fact that you’re suspecting that someone who was honest enough not to pay her insurance so she could pay her waitresses and tried to refuse her grandfather putting his retirement funds into the business he started and who turned down a multiple lucrative jobs in Chicago would siphon funds from broke-ass Riverdale.

It’s interesting, you don’t seem to think Alice, a woman who has ACTUALLY EMBEZZLED FUNDS FROM BETTY is going to siphon money from the council, but you think TABITHA who has been shown to be INCREDIBLY honest when it comes to money would do so. Why? Because you assume any Black person going through financial hardship is going to commit some sort of crime, is literally the only reason I can see. I honestly don’t have any words for how racist this comment is and you seem to be. Fix yourself.

Part Two: Are you a Republican?

Well, I’m already pretty disgusted by you as a human being at this point, but I guess the game’s not over yet. And before anyone's like "don't bring politics into this." I fucking didn't. This racist motherfucker did. I'm just dragging the politics they brought into this into the goddamn light so we can all talk about it like adults. And also I GET to bring politics into this. I've worked for the Democratic parties of multiple states. I've done the goddamn work, so I'll talk about politics if I want to. If anyone prefers to not read about that, though, I totally get it, politics are gross and they can skip to the next part.

Now, back to our little game. Where were we? Oh right...

What you’re essentially saying is that you think Tabitha should have paid her insurance rather than her waitresses. That’s about the most Republican attitude I’ve ever heard “you should be punished for paying your staff instead of covering your business’s ass” but whatever. Fuck workers, every business owner should prioritize their property over their employees’ well-being, I guess.

And if anyone gets into trouble compounded by years of systemic oppression and prejudice, communities shouldn’t do anything to help them. That makes sense. Especially if that trouble is due to a lack of order maintained by ineffective law enforcement and institutions that always prioritize other businesses and neighborhoods over theirs. Everyone is on their own no matter what, unless they’re a giant corporation and they get in trouble, then, of course, the government should bail them out. Small, Black/female-owned businesses are on their own, though.

So I guess:

P.S. If you’re not a young, socialism-for-only-the-whites fakeass Bernie-bro and are actually a loud and proud Republican, I guess you can respond with another anon post being like “this wasn’t an insult to me. Of course, I want Trump to grab my pussy” but honestly, the only reason that would surprise me is that it would show an amount of self-awareness that you don’t seem capable of, so I would probably respect you a little more. And it would make the fact that you’re willing to say blatantly racist things and think it’s fine make a little more sense to me.

If you do think you’re a Democrat, though, please, get the fuck out of our party. You people are the ones making it impossible to get anything actually done.

Bonus Round: Are you an idiot, too?

Finally, insurance for a business shouldn’t really be that material to the point anyway. This was a crime that was committed against her. In the real world, while there would be an insurance payout, Tabitha would also be able to sue Hiram Lodge and the Ghoulies involved for damages, not just to cover the cost of the damages done but emotional damages and money to cover increases to her insurance premiums and to compensate her workers for lost wages.

And wait… I’m trying to remember… whose money was it that Tabitha “leeched” as you put it? OH RIGHT. FUCKING HIRAM’S.

That’s not her “begging for” or “leeching money.” That money was RIGHTFULLY HERS by how our LEGAL SYSTEM IS SUPPOSED TO WORK. That’s WHY THEY ALL DECIDED TO GIVE IT TO HER. I guess not only are you racist and clearly a Republican, you also have no idea how our economy or civil legal system works.

They just ran Hiram out of town and collected the money rather than forcing her to wait for him to be criminally convicted so she could then take that criminal conviction to civil court to get damages (a process that could take years.

So yeah, you’re an idiot, also. If you need Social Justice Warrior-Cat to tell you, here it is:

God this comment really took a lot out of me. And they’re not the only person expressing these sorts of views. This racist bullshit is everywhere and it’s pretty discouraging.

I feel like everyone in fandom on Tumblr pretends to be some sort of diversity-loving, Bernie- hugging uber-liberal, but then these attitudes come out when they see a Black character they don’t like and we all see that it takes more than memes and hashtags to wash the prejudices and conservatism out of braindead people raised in white suburbia. Our country’s going to die choking on the dicks of people like you, I fucking swear.

Turning to raise a dark eyebrow at him, she lowered her cup and licked a hint of foam off her top lip. Funny how he was looking at her now – despite all of his ribbing about how she took her coffee, he never seemed to mind that part.

“It’s called self-care, J,” she teased back. “I know you like to inhale your food and all, but some of us are actually attached to our taste buds…”  “Technically, Tabi…” he started with a smirk, “we’re all attached to our taste buds.”

I love this. I think my favorite part is your acknowledgment of their mutual love of outerwear. Also, love "Smughead Jones." It's perfection. Again, I love the way you've both held to their dynamic in the show and also fleshed it out and created a believable conversation about them moving in together. This is a great sort of extra scene I could easily see happening in the show, if the show was less of a disaster right now.

Seriously, if you have to *DELIBERATELY* misconstrue canon (because literally nothing in that scene is said remotely jokingly, and if you’re going to pretend that it was while taking the Betty scene as the peak of romance, then I KNOW you’re cherry picking and watching stuff with shipping goggles), then just say that you don’t want Jughead with anyone but Betty because you want him to save himself for her while Betty is allowed to fuck around with Archie and Glen and whoever else and just fucking go.

If you have to TATTLE to bigger Bughead blogs about what the fandom of a ship you don’t like, and don’t have to interact with is doing, you are sad. You need a hobby other than hate watching blogs. And if you’re the blog being tattled to and you’re answering anons about content that you don’t like? You ALSO need to go the fuck outside and stop seeking validation via anonymous strangers on the internet prodding you for opinions.  

And while we’re here? The more you double down on the ‘Jughead can never have romantic or sexual feelings for anyone but Betty’ stance as a reason Jabitha isn’t happening/didn’t happen when 1) he’s already HAD feelings for someone other than Betty (a crush on Toni and a relationship with Jess, however toxic it may have been) and 2) he’s already had SEX with someone other than Betty (Jess, Cora, that we know of), the more you expose yourself as racist trash because you will deliberately throw over the opportunity to explore an adorably written interracial couple for your white fave, while also not holding your white fave accountable for any of her shitty behavior.

The entire Bughead fandom is fucking tragic right now and you all need some SERIOUS self-reflection.

I know that no one follows me but it looks like I’m part of this shipwar now. People shouldn’t mess with my friends. 

I just want to add that it feels like some of the Bughead fans are like the ship itself. They used to be cute and endearing but now it’s all uncomfortable trash. It’s not their fault the ship has become this way in canon, but it is their fault that their fandom mirrors the garbage that the Riverdale writers have been putting out. 

I second the opinion that they should get their house in order. The ship is in the process of going down, even though we all know it’s never going to actually sink because it will be pulled back up at the last possible second. But that doesn’t mean you should be unaware of the current circumstances and you certainly can’t blame people for jumping off a boat that’s in the process of sinking onto a new, cuter boat with fewer white people on it. Maybe that boat just seems more trustworthy overall.

Or maybe they’d just like to spend some time on a boat that doesn’t have emotional baggage that no one ever actually deals with spilling out of its luggage compartment.

Just stop being the worst. Jughead has slept with a bunch of people in canon at this point. He’s not Betty-sexual. I’m not sure why you want him to be that way. I don’t see how it helps you. I actually think it makes his relationship with Betty weaker. If he is only attracted to her then he is stuck with her no matter what. If he can like other people but then he chooses her, that’s way more romantic, I think. 

I hope the writers get their shit together and decide to make Bughead a good ship again, but people should stop pretending that the ship is in a good place and should definitely stop bullying their fellow shippers for wanting alternatives. Multi-shipping is a thing. I know the Barchies went full-scale harassment/disinformation campaign in their ship war, but can’t you just be nicer than them? Surely you can be better than the Barchies... that bar is literally on the floor.

Part Two: The Two-Parter

Thank you for joining me on this exciting journey as I attempt to delve into the psyches of @arsenicpanda​‘s most toxic Anon Asks and do my best to compose the most fitting responses to their unprovoked hostility using my own reserves of spite and malice. 

So, now that I’ve set my “Classical Music to Scheme To” playlist to repeat, let’s begin.

This next one is a two-parter since I’m almost certain the next two were from the same person since they were sent within less than a minute of each other, so I’m going to be calling this person Yandere #2. I apologize if that’s incorrect, but I really don’t have the time to compare the different brands of crazies and writing styles side by side to figure out which ones they are, because I have a life and I’m doing this for fun.  Fun, by the way, is what fandom is supposed to be about. That’s why most people are in it. Most people don’t come to fandom looking to start crazy-bitch fights to try to control what other people think and enjoy about media. Trying to control someone whose otherwise harmless opinions or views make you feel threatened in some way is called bullying. That’s what this here is: 

If you’re not sure about the difference between standing up for what you believe in and bullying, here’s an easy test. Ask yourself: is the thing you’re “standing up against” an opinion or view that was said with the intention of hurting, insulting, or silencing another person? If not, it’s just a harmless opinion. That means the person expressing that view isn’t provoking any sort of retaliation or insult. 

This is true even if (and I can’t stress this enough), they don’t agree with you. 

It’s actually still true even if they used to agree with you. Even if you felt like they expressed things you felt better than you did and got joy from reading the things they said and wrote. No matter how you felt about their opinions before, you’re not entitled to attempt to bully them back into agreeing with you now that your opinions differ. 

This is even the case if someone’s opinions are “unpopular.”

This may be shocking to you, but in fact, bullying “unpopular” people or bullying people for “unpopular” (but harmless) opinions is still wrong. Someone opening their anonymous asks back up isn’t “asking to be bullied.” I thought 2017 taught us that you can’t actually be “asking for” other people to do terrible things… unless you do terrible things to them first. Even in that case, it’s a little terrible. This is why I embrace the fact that I’m a little terrible.  

A Special Message for Yandere #2

I’m sure you in particular feel pretty upset about this (assuming you’ve even bothered to read my answers to your asks). You’re probably thinking “it’s so unfair that someone who doesn’t even care about my precious Riverdale/Bughead is being so mean to me.” 

I suspect you, like all predators, singled @arsenicpanda out as a good victim because she’s a nice person with personal problems she’s been very honest about and you thought you could hurt and control her. 

You probably don’t think that’s what you did. But maybe ask yourself what characteristics you look for in another Tumblr user before you start spamming their inbox with personal attacks. Because most bullies (particularly those who aren’t even willing to use their names) don’t go after people they think will fight back effectively. 

You were probably expecting another post where @arsenicpanda, in her honest and open way, expressed that it was hurtful to have people try to ruin something that has been so positive for her overall. And you probably would have really enjoyed the power you got from upsetting her. It might have even made you feel like you were some sort of soldier fighting for the right thing. 

You may still feel like that now, even. It’s probably pointless to ask you to take a step back and reconsider how fucking insane your actions look--but I’d like to break them down a little more anyway. You’re following/regularly checking the blog of a person you now hate just to see if they open their anon asks so you can jump on the first opportunity you have to bully them without accountability and tell them it’s their fault because they were “asking for it.” You are really a masterwork of psycho-stalker cyberbullying insecurity.  I know, COVID makes it seem like all of this online stuff is way more important than it is. But maybe you should temper that with literally any fucking compassion for other people in your fandom community. If you don’t like someone, just ignore/don’t follow them. Anon asks are for people who are shy, not people who want to bully other fans with impunity.

I’m answering some @arsenicpanda‘s Asks because some of this shit has gotten toxic and she’s has a good and kind soul. I, however, am free from the burden of such a soul... or perhaps the burden of any soul whatsoever. And she is one of my oldest and dearest friends.

You guys sure have some really intense and personal comments about other people’s opinions on a TV show. And that’s fine. You can feel all sorts of unhealthy, toxic things about media if you want. But you have to keep it to yourself. When you externalize it by swamping someone’s inbox with mean messages, calling them names, and accusing them of bigotry, that’s called harassment.

That’s what this is, Yandere #1.

And yes, saying that someone is “aligned with misogynists” is just a cowardly way of calling them one. This is true because it is hurts their feelings in the same way, and that was obviously the intention in saying it. If you’re going to insult someone, at least do it properly. Say what you mean to say and put your goddamn name on it. At least then you’re just an asshole. Now you’re an asshole and a coward. So, good job. Notice how I just straight-up insulted you there and I put my name on it. Because I am, in fact, just an asshole (though, honestly, I prefer “stone-cold bitch.”)

Thanks to Riverdale, I now just assume the Malfoys and the Weasleys actually hate each other because they're WAY more closely related than they let on. Basically just the Blossoms and the Coopers, with their hair colors reversed.

But instead of one sibling killing another and starting an endless grudge of secrets and lies like the Blossoms and the Coopers, one sibling just managed to take all of the family money and left the other one poor and homeless with like 12 kids to take care of.

Betty’s (Offensive) ADHD Retcon

Because, of course, Betty can’t really have ADHD because she’s cool and people idolize her. She had to just be abusing Adderall, she can’t be someone who needs it and didn’t pick up her prescription in S1 because, like many teenagers with learning disabilities, she was ashamed of needing it. Her plot had to be that Betty is perfect without this drug that she thinks she needs, not that she has a mental illness/learning disability and can still be amazing anyway, provided that she’s on her meds.  I’m so glad that Riverdale, a show famous for its representation of marginalized groups, took what could have been a plot that fought back against the horrible stigmatization of mental illness in this country and instead basically turned it into a “hip millennial version” of a PSA from the fucking 1980s. Thanks, I hate it.
