This is some Nation Archives Smithsonian caliber shit here!
I’ve watched “Sweet Charity”. I chose this musical only because I saw one musical number from it – “(Hey) Big Spender” – I saw a bootleg of it from the Musical Comedy Theatre. A male version of it. Starring all the male stars of the theatre – Ozhogin, Gorddev, Kolpakov and others. It’s so amusing! You should totally watch it (here are a few links of different performances): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gMpY-0aVOg , https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-KuOS3VgXc, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZKIGeBtVUU (the “plot” is a little different than in the original – here it’s an audition). I liked the musical – it’s pretty positive, even though it doesn’t have (Spoilers!) a real happy ending – the main character is just a very joyful and outgoing person. Though she has a lot of misfortune in her life – she’s a taxi dancer (dances with men for money) and she doesn’t like her job (none of her colleagues does and it’s understandable), her boyfriend pushes her from a bridge and stoles her purse with all her money. Then she meets a famous actor – he takes her to a luxurious club – she accidentally steps on his leg while dancing, he takes her to his fancy house, feeds her dinner, gives her an autograph and some of his requisite, but then his lover comes and Charity (the main character) has to spend the whole night in the closet. Then she seems to finally find her love, she lies to him that she works in a bank. Then she finally tells him the truth and he’s shocked but he makes her a marriage proposal, but… when he sees her friends, learns about her previous boyfriends he says that he can’t marry her. She’s devastated, she cries and falls asleep in Central Park. In the morning, a group of hippies wakes her up and she feels the will to live again.
P.S. The famous actor is played by Ricardo Montalbán.
