With Luna and Roxy’s leashes in hand, Amelia was enjoying herself as they walked along the sidewalk in the early evening as the sun began setting. She took a moment to glance up to the sky, taking in the different shades of orange and pink, when she noticed both pitbulls pulling harder. Stopping in her tracks, she peered past them to see what they were trying to get to. “Damn it,” she muttered. Hearing a person coming up behind her, she sighed. “This isn’t even close to the weirdest thing I’ve ever asked someone, but I need a big favour. Can you please either move those two toads, or hold their leashes while I move the toads? I’d go around them, but God knows if there’s more in the grass on that side, and I’d rather not take them that close to the street, since there’s still a lot of cars out.”
Late evening runs were a part of Elijah’s daily routine anytime he had a day off. It didn’t really matter to him if it was cold or warm he’d always be out. Unless it was snowing, that was the deal breaker. Seeing someone stopped in the middle of the sidewalk. Recognizing the dogs, he jogged over and stopped next to them. Catching his breath as he took out his earphones when she began speaking to him. “I’m not going anywhere near those or touching them,” He took the leashes from her hand. “I’ll hold these you can do that.” All the things he’d seen in his life and toads were still something that creeped him out the most. He blamed it on them simply looking weird. “You’ve piqued my interest now though. What is the weirdest thing you’ve ever had to ask someone? And don’t say that I don’t want to know. If you don’t tell me I’ll never be able to let it go and you’ll have to hear the question every time we see each other.”

The reminder of Valentine’s Day right around the corner was everywhere. It didn’t matter where Mila went, there were hearts and cupids taking aim, decorations in shop windows and store aisles, pinks and reds and whites colored the surroundings reminding her. She wasn’t bothered that she was single or without a date, the little holiday had never been one that she put a lot into. Mila was the type that believed a person should put effort into their relationship throughout the year — not just because the pressure of Valentine’s Day bore down. Still, there she stood with a box of cards and some candy to gift to her friends because she thought it was a cute thing to do. “It kind of sucks that Valentine’s Day lands on a Friday, right?” Mila smiled a little. “I think pretty much all my friends are in relationships so I’m sure they’re all going to be busy.” Which was going to be odd for her, as she was used to being able to get at least one of her buddies to hang out. Though now, it was likely they all had romantic plans. “I guess it’ll be a Friday night in. Are you doing anything or are you in the same boat?”
Ever since getting his heart broken on Valentine’s Day by a girl in high school Elijah hadn’t been much of a fan of the holiday. Always referring to it as the Hallmark holiday as some other people did as well. These days the way most stores started displaying all the candy and gifts so early was cause for him to roll his eyes. The only thing he liked about the holiday now was when the candy would go on sale the next day. “Thinking I’m going to be spending the night in too. Not in a relationship or anything like that so no dates lined up. Not to mention Valentine’s Day is crap,” He picked up one of the cards from the stand and shook his head at it. Showing it to her. “Look at this. I’ve fallen for you and I can’t get up. Funny, I’ll give it that, but also incredibly dumb.” He shrugged, putting it back on the stand. “I’m actually hoping someone will convince me to go out drinking though. Misery loves company.”
