“Well- after going through everything with the eye of a journalist, literally scouring through everything your brought up, plus some new pieces of information I managed to find. I think there’s a ninety seven percent chance that you are my half-brother.” Casey smiled, “So I guess how I’m feeling is- scared? Excited? I don’t know, all of this still feels really fresh right now and I just want answers.” 

“Ninety seven percent?” he tried to hide the excitement that shone in his eyes, “That’s a pretty high chance.” Elijah saw her smile and felt a little lighter. She seemed happy about that possibility. “I feel the same way,” he added with a nod when Casey listed off how she was feeling. “What... what should we do next? My girlfriend suggested we just go full DNA test to be sure... what do you think?”

“Well I can always go and talk you up to her, I don’t want to brag or be bias, but I do have a lot of good things to say about you.” Lizzie teased, leaning in closer to the other and pressing a kiss to his nose. “Though I feel like great kisser can’t really come into play if I did.” She chuckled, her smile not moving from the way the other spoke about the woman. “What are some of her good sister qualities?” She couldn’t help but ask, knowing the other was probably bursting to talk more about the brunette. “You could both go and have DNA samples taken- might be the most reliant way of getting to the bottom of this.”

“Yeah I think we’re going to have to pass on that. That’d be a little weird,” Elijah chuckled. “But I appreciate you offering to talk me up all the same. I do want you two to meet eventually of course. I think you’d like her,” he smiled. “Well she has a great sense of humor for starters. Smart. Very caring too,” Eli replied, listing off things he had observed just from their several interactions. “And just like you actually, she has that kind of personality where I want to know her better,” he added with a little sheepish shrug. “You make a good point. Don’t know how I’m going to bring up asking her giving me a spit swab or a blood sample, but she’d get it right?”

Nesta giggled and patted him on the shoulder. “A sneaky but smart idea. I like,” she grinned at him.

“I’ve gotta make a good impression, what can I say?” he grinned back with a little shrug. “Happy Birthday again, Nesta. Got any fun plans?”

“How are you feeling?” Elijah asked as he came up to greet Casey and sit across from her. It’d been a while since he last gave her the research and letters, but he also just wanted to check in on her. “Was it all for nothing or do you think we might be connected? I think I’m starting to lean towards the latter. I mean all these coincidences... what if they’re not just that? What if we’re really half-siblings?”

When Nesta opened the box, she squealed in delight. “This is amazing! How did you know I wanted it?” She grinned at the other.

“I mean I may or may not have run it past Beth first to make sure it was a good gift, but I’m glad to know I can throw out the return receipt,” Elijah replied with a chuckle.

“Hey.” She commented, taking one of his hands and bringing it up to her mouth to press a kiss there. “You’re allowed to have hope, your life has been tough and you deserve this and she doesn’t seem the type to just leave you, Elijah. This girl has had her life turned upside down, knowing that you could be her biological brother, well I think she’d want to keep you around. I know I would.” She told him, “So if this were me, I’d try to get to the bottom of it. Find out if you really are siblings together, bond, get to know one another.” 

A smile reached his lips as he listened to Elizabeth speak. Maybe she was right, may he did deserve something good. Maybe for once life wasn’t screwing him over entirely. “I hope she’ll want me as her half-brother if it’s really the case. She’s great and I mean... she’s kind of everything anyone could want from a sister,” Elijah admitted. “You’re right– you’re right. I need to get to the bottom of this with her. We both deserve answers.”

“I find it cute.” Lizzie commented, marking where she was in her reading and placing her pen down to give the other her full and undivided attention. “But it does look to be going that way, doesn’t it? And Elijah, your life has been far from easy and the gossip witches outed a secret she didn’t even know was hers, which couldn’t have been easy for her. Maybe you’ve already been through the hard parts. You’ve missed out on years of knowing one another, it’s about time you should both get something good in your life.”

Elijah’s gaze lowered slightly in a bashful manner at Lizzie’s comment. “I guess when you put it that way...” he considered, sighing to himself. “It’d be really fucking cool if she was my sister, Beth. I guess I’m just scared of getting my hopes up... I don’t want it to all turn out to be untrue or... or that she leaves. I guess it’s just... scary,” he admitted. Elijah wasn’t really one to admit fear, but Lizzie was one of the few people he showed that truly vulnerable side to. “What would you do if you were me?”

“I swear I won’t bring it up all the time but– do you think Casey and I could really be related?” Elijah asked, looking over to his girlfriend curiously. “Like she and I are looking into it but I dunno... feels like it’s too ‘easy’ to be the case. Like how convenient you know?”

Hazel was sitting in the great hall, doodling. She had been thinking a lot about what Nile had told her, and a lot about how she had to move on. When she saw someone approach, Hazel looked up. “Hey, what’s up?” 

“I was about to ask you the same thing,” Elijah admitted, sitting down across from her. “I’m alright– just sleepy,” he shrugged. “How about you? What’re you drawing there?”

“Hey you.” Lizzie beamed upon seeing the other, kissing him back before feeling the piece of paper in her hands. She couldn’t help but feel a small thrum of excitement knowing that it had to be something the other had written, especially since she was aware that he didn’t share his work all that much. She read each word, her chest feeling warm at them, her smile only growing as she pulled Elijah into a hug when she was done reading it, “I love it and I’m glad you gave me this over flowers, there is nothing more attractive and sexy than the written word. And do you really mean it? Do you really want to move in together after Hogwarts?” She asked beaming. “Because I would love nothing more then to wake up to you every morning.”

“Thank Merlin because it’s the only way I know how to be sexy,” Elijah chuckled, embracing her in return tightly. He was endlessly grateful to have her in his life and he didn’t think that would ever get old. “Nah I just thought I’d tease you in a poem and just get you a measly butterbeer at the Three Broomsticks instead,” Eli teased. “Of course I mean it. I can’t imagine living with anybody else,” he replied as if it were obvious. “Besides,” Elijah added, his tone softer once more, “I know you’ve been having all those second thoughts about the whole running away thing, so I thought we’d start looking for a place near here for the two of us.”

“Happy Valentine’s Day,” Elijah said, kissing Elizabeth and giving her hands a tight squeeze before he slipped a note into them. “I was going to get you flowers but I’m kind of hoping you might like this better,” he added. “It’s not my best work, but it gets the message across,” he nodded towards the paper as she began to unfold it.

“Hey.” Casey smiled approaching the younger male, a folder in her hand. “I’m not interrupting anything, am I?” Casey asked, looking around for the others girlfriend not wanting to interrupt any of the others plans. “I just- wanted to give you this, I have done a lot of digging and research and I thought you’d want to see it.” Casey commented chewing on her bottom lip, “I-… I think you were right. About us-.. being, siblings.”

Elijah had disappeared to grab him and Lizzie some more drinks when he got stopped by a familiar figure. “Casey, hey,” he smiled lightly, the expression dropping rather quickly as she handed him a folder. Eli flipped through it before looking back up at her. “What... what should we do?” he blinked, not having an answer to something for a change.

“I’m sorry to hear that.” Casey commented at the others first statement, her saddened expression turning into one of sorrow for the other, rather then for herself. She listened to him speak, watched as he slid letters over to her and saw the files stacked onto the table making her head spin. She was a journalist sure and a good one, but even this seemed like- a lot. “You’re saying that you’re not suggesting that I’m your sister, but we both know that you wouldn’t be telling me all of this if you didn’t have a high suspicion that I am.” Casey commented already leafing through the research the other had placed in front of her. “This is all… a lot.” She spoke, her voice quiet as she felt a lump in her throat form. “But-… I guess neither of us will know the truth about our families if we don’t try.” She let out a shaky breath and nodded, “I’ll help and-… can I… can I take these home to read?” She asked, gesturing to the letters. “I promise I’ll give them back.”

Elijah nodded at Casey’s words. She was right. There had been a little voice in the back of his mind that considered the possibility of Casey being his half-sister. He also understood her having to take her time. Elijah had unloaded a lot of information on her and it was normal to have to take ones time to process it all. “Of course– of course you can,” he nodded, pushing the letters a little closer to her. “They were meant for you after all,” Eli added with a small and supportive smile.
