The World Cup... Kinda // Elise & Alexei
For the first few moments that Alexei had her in his arms, his heart was completely calm. It was almost as if it felt right to him. Every so often he’d look down at Elise to admire her. The way her eyes shined in the moonlight, the way her nose seemed to seamlessly grace her soft face. Everything about her was simply wonderful. And then, all too suddenly, it was over. He loosened his grip as she wiggled out of her arms, leaving her free to do what she wanted. While he certainly didn’t want to let go of the beauty beside him, he wanted to bruise her even less. “Yeah,” he retorted with a slight sadness to his smooth voice. His brown eyes drifted to look at the black abyss beneath him, knowing that there was dewy grass under his feet. At the brush of her hand, he suddenly became alert. It was as if a shot of adrenaline was rushing through his veins. “Uh,” he started, trying to figure out what exactly to say to her. “A day in the life of Alexei Wood during summer sessions. Well, it’s full of sleep mostly. I like to sleep the day away when I can. Then I guess I try to keep up with the work load so I don’t get kicked off of the team. To be honest, my days are a hell of a lot more boring than people like to make it seem. I mostly practice soccer and eat.”
For a few minutes after that, he kept quiet. His mind ran wild with what he wished he could do during his summer sessions. He couldn’t do anything, though. His life was closely monitored and he always had to stay put in order to make his weekly therapy sessions. She definitely didn’t want to hear about that. Instinctively, Alexei’s hand found Elise’s and his fingers tangled themselves with hers. His grip on her hand was firm but gentle. The boy was hoping to convey his need to be close to her, but not be overbearing. Part of him was afraid that she would do her best to break away from him. “What was it like in France? You can skip the part where all the European guys hit on you. nless, y’know, you want to make me jealous.” His soft laughter filled the cool night air around them, slightly echoing in the dark.
"Training to be the next Neymar already, are you?" Elise asked with a slight grin on her face. St. Mary's was at its prettiest two times a year: winter afternoons during a light snowfall and summer nights just before rain clouds were rumored to come in. You could feel the air become more dense as the humidity went up, and it was a matter of time before storm clouds started rolling in. Light carried around campus easily, causing a sort of glowing look around campus as lamps in dorm rooms and lights along paths mixed with tiny droplets in the mist. She glanced down at their hands as he looped his fingers into hers. Doing her best to hide the huge grin on her face, she walked along with her hand in his. Something about it all made her heart race, but it wasn't the possibility of getting caught out after hours. In fact, she wasn't worried about that in the slightest, because she was with him. "It doesn't sound so bad, you know-- doing what you love all day. Soccer, I mean," she nodded, sighing as she kept her eyes locked ahead.
Elise was never one to tell someone else that she needed help; in fact, she was always the one offering help-- which was why her illness would get so irrational. Truth be told, she wasn't in France the entire time she was gone. Part of it was spent in a hospital bed with needles in her arms and tubes up her nose-- but she certainly didn't plan on talking about that. "Unless I want to make you jealous?" She said, scrunching her nose up at his words, "even if European guys did hit on me, you really have no reason to be jealous... because I'm here, aren't I? With you. Though I did meet a few guys who were quite good at, uh, football, so you've got a lot to live up to these next few practices, Wood." She looked up at him and grinned, hoping he would catch on to the way she was only joking around. "France was-- interesting. There's so much history there that I almost suffocated, and Dad freaked out any time anyone referred to it as La Ville de L'Amour. It wasn't home though, and as strange as this sounds-- I kinda missed being here," she nodded, scanning their surroundings to see if they'd gotten any closer to the field, "I'm just hoping I didn't miss too much."
Why are all girls talking about how ‘amazing’ last night was and explaining all the details to their friends in the library? Come on, you’re what? Fifteen?
That's... kind of what fifteen-year-old girls tend to do...
So, I’d really like to know who thought it’d be a cute idea to give my number to some random freshman. If I find out who you are, I may or may not socially destroy you. Just some food for thought.

The World Cup... Kinda // Elise & Alexei
-Alexei had spent the last few weeks wracking his brain trying to figure out just where his princess had ran off to. Maybe he had come on too strong and she ran away; it certainly wouldn’t have been the first time a girl decided to dip because he was too much. Maybe she had found another boy to occupy her time with. The worst thought however, was thinking that her father had pulled her away from him. A Lancaster and a Wood talking to each other was one of the most unheard of things in the world. The headmaster’s daughter and the only son from a legacy of trouble makers. It was like Romeo and Juliet part two, and Alexei knew exactly how that one ended. Much to his (extremely pleasant) surprise, Elise had made a miraculous return. Something about her father making her go to France. While Alexei didn’t entirely believe it, he let it slide. He wasn’t about to ruin something that he had wanted so badly. Since his freshman year, Elise Lancaster had been the girl he carefully watched in classes. The one that was so far out of his reach that he could only hold onto the scent of her long, light brown hair as she glided past him in the hallway. Only this year, it seemed as if it was all changing. Every single wish he had ever made on stars and every single prayer he had whispered to his aunt were being answered. That’s the main reason he agreed to stick his neck out and go to the soccer field even though it was off-limits.
He quickly got dressed into a pair of loose-fitting, dark green shorts and pulled a grey hoodie over him. He knew that it was stained with a little blood from a few fights, but he hoped that she couldn’t tell in the dark. As quickly as he could, he pulled on his cleats and grabbed one of his duffle bags. Alexei threw a few water bottles, a towel, and his own soccer ball in the bag in a rather disorganized fashion. As he exited his room, he could feel his heart pounding in his chest, the vibrations running up his throat. He wasn’t sure how the night would go or if Elise would like the way he was when he played the game he called his life. He was aggressive, he was focused. But how much of that could he be if the girl that made him stop in his tracks was there? He made his way outside of the residence hall and stood at the bottom of the steps, waiting for her to find him. It was then he heard the pitter-patter of her small feet tapping on the steps as she came down. He continued to face the opposite way, pretending to not hear her. “Oh wow,” he exclaimed as he felt her angelic touch on his arm, pretending to be surprised. “Didn’t hear ya there, Miss Lancaster.” In the dark, he winked at her. It was almost impossible to keep his heart in his chest as the soft moonlight painted a beautiful blue hue to her already stunning face. Taking a step back, he broke out of her hold and carefully slung his dufflebag on his shoulder for a more secure grip. “Sorry, Princess,” he started, “I can’t let you walk on the field by yourself.” With a light laugh, he bent down slightly and scooped her up in his arms. This had been something he had always seen in movies; the man carrying the woman across the threshold, making sure to keep her secure in his arms. She was even lighter than he thought she would be which made this even easier. “Shall we, beautiful?”
Elise grinned up at him, giving a playful eyeroll as he pretended to be surprised. Alexei Wood was a force to be reckoned with when it came to being charming, and she'd made sure to steer clear of him for the first two years of high school for a reason. His reputation of being notoriously rough around the edges and infamously trouble-causing all together preceded him, but that wasn't all. No, people weren't always focusing on the negative-- they never left out the positives. Girls would swoon about his big brown eyes and alluring smile, and they would simply lose it when it came to Alexei on the soccer field. She, however, kept her nose buried in a book and her eyes elsewhere-- never letting her curiosity get the best of her. That was until junior year rolled around, when she was stuck in a music class and he instantly knew what to do. Before she could say 'no thank you', he'd scheduled a lesson, and that's where things began. Right off the bat, she found him to be intriguing, and she certainly didn't see where the 'bad boy' fuss was coming from. He was the reason she started to study outside in the bleachers near the soccer field, waiting patiently for him to get done.
"What do you mean you can't let me wa-" Elise started with a quizzical look, but couldn't quite get the question out before he'd already scooped her up. She slapped a hand over her mouth quickly to avoid letting out a surprise squeal and laughed, tilting her head back as she used her other arm to hold onto him. "Lead on, Mister Woods," she nodded, smiling up at him. She could feel her heart pounding inside of her chest, but this time it was in a good way. Her stomach was going mad with butterflies, but she actually enjoyed the feeling. "You know," she began, scrunching her nose before wiggling out of his grasp. Once her feet hit the ground, she let out a breath that she didn't know she'd been holding. Brushing the hair out of her face and once again tugging at her sweatshirt, she added, "I'm capable of walking, Lex. I'm a damsel, but I'm certainly not in distress." Giving him a soft smile, she bumped her shoulder into his slightly, feeling their hands brush and becoming way to conscious of it. "So," she started, still aware of their closeness, "tell me-- how's St. Mary's been since I left? What's been goin' on with you?" She was overcome with a sense of courage, tentatively grabbing his hand and intertwining her fingers with his. "And none of that charming, 'she'd probably really like to hear this' stuff. I really want to know what you've been up to. What's a day in the life of Alexei Wood like during summer sessions?"
Good, write it down somewhere. We’ll go out to an Italian restaurant for our first date and I’ll order you some fancy chocolate desert. I think that would be fun and I’m more than willing to do it. Are you scared that you’re going to get caught by father dearest? Ooh, look at you bein’ all fancy and shit. It could be enough for me, I suppose. Only if you agree to be Queen of SMA, though.

And what makes you think we'll be going on a date anytime soon? I am-- but I trust you. I've already gotten the 'I'm a Wood; I don't get caught' speech. Mmm, well-- that happens when you speak more than one language. Only if I agree to be Queen? Oh, I don't know-- I don't think I'm royal material, Lex. It's not really, uh-- my thing. I-- I'm n--... Thanks, Lex. For the compliment and for getting me flustered. That's something I really needed.

Elise rolled over in bed, letting the book she was reading fall to her stomach as she glanced at her phone. It was nearly midnight, and she didn’t feel the slightest bit tired. Since her recent visit to the hospital, they’d upped her meds. For the first few days after she got back, all she did was go to class, study, and sleep far too much — all because she wasn’t feeling well. Then her dad put her on a plane and sent her to France. The timezones were screwed up in her head, and jet lag was at it's peak. She’d started to become a bit restless. All day, she’d been pacing her room. She couldn’t sit still for more than a few minutes, spinning in her chair as she read or walking around her room as she worked on math questions that she'd mised. She’d been feeling a lot better, but being cooped up in her room was making her incredibly restless. She also found herself longing to see her friends, one ‘friend’ in particular. Within an instant, she had gotten a hold of Alexei and held him to a promise he'd made weeks before.
"Sneaking out. After curfew. Onto an off-limits part of school. With a boy. A Wood, to be exact," Elise said to herself as she stated into the mirror, hands on her hips and head hanging low, "oh what have I gotten myself into?" Running her hands through her hair, she smiled to herself and let out a nervous laugh. Shaking her head, she pulled on a sweatshirt that was a size or two too big, shorts, and the pair of Nikes she used for running. Sighing to herself, she tucked her phone into the pocket of her sweatshirt and pulled her hood up over her long locks. Touching her hair had become a habit because she knew that someday, it might not be there. As quietly as she could, she made her way through the halls of the dorms and out onto the front steps. The moonlight made the mist glow a bit, and the breeze was warm due to the Virginia Beach weather that she'd missed so much. Elise grinned as she saw a familiar figure facing the opposite way. Running down the steps, keeping her feet light, she wrapped her arm around Alexei’s and peeked up at him, grinning. "Alright, Lex," she said quietly, "lead the way. Oh, and-- it's good to see you again."
Yeah, that is my name. My favorite food is pizza, and my favorite color is also the color green. It reminds me of the soccer field. My favorite is Hercules because I’ve always been fond of being the hero and saving the girl. When things get rough, I think of my Aunt Lexi because even though I never met her, I know she’s up there somewhere. I can’t help but worry because you’ve said that twice and you’ve disappeared twice. You better be, I’ll tell coach to keep a space for you and to sit on it so it’s nice and warm for you. Promise me again? Just once more for good measure.
You’re going to inflate my ego, Lis. I think a lot of girls here will tell you that’s a bad thing to do.
And I'll be sure to keep that all in mind. Speaking of your little soccer field-- I believe you still owe me a midnight trip out there. Seeing as I'm still incredibly jetlagged, I could use that right about now. Lex, I promise. Je promets. Promitto. There. I've promised twice in English and twice in other languages. Is that enough for you, King of SMA? Yeah, well-- I'm only telling you the truth.
Facebook? You couldn’t go to a library and get on facebook? I am the only Alexei Wood on there, I think. No, I just… I need to know everything about you. What’s your favorite food, your favorite color, what’s your favorite Disney movie. Or, what about when things get rough, who do you think of? I need to know that you’re okay and that you’re here. Because if I have to go to another soccer practice and look over at the stands and not see you there, I’m going to flip my shit. I need you to stay, okay? You’re the prettiest girl here and it’s a crime not to see your face in the halls.

I-- Alexei. My favorite food is anything with chocolate in it. My favorite color is green. Disney movie? The Lion King, it will always be The Lion King despite the fact that I also have an extremely soft spot for Hercules and Mulan. When things get rough I-- I think of my mom. I'm perfectly fine and I'm not going anywhere. Next time you've got practice, well, I'll be there. Now quit worrying about me. Really, I'd tell you if something were wrong and I just-- I'm here to stay. Promise.

I don’t know, because you disappeared without a trace. You just left. I didn’t get a text, or a call, I didn’t even get a note brought by carrier pigeon. I missed you, okay? You can’t do that, Lis. You can’t disappear without me knowing because I’m supposed to know everything, I’m like the King of SMA and you left and, and… — Fuck. I’m so happy to see you.
It was some sort of surprise thing and I didn't get reception on a different continent and-- I'm sorry. I really am. And I'll make it up to you somehow. Because you're the King of SMA and you need to know everything? Yeah, okay. I'll give you that much. I'm, um, I'm happy to be back. And for the record-- I missed you, too.

Dad shipped me off to France for a little bit. Something about learning the language in a place where it all began. I suppose it wasn't all that bad I just-- missed hearing English. Lex, I'm fine. What makes you think I'm not okay? Yeah-- back to stay.
