PSA
I know I haven't been very active lately (I haven't posted anything in months lol whoops) but I wanted to let everyone know that I'm fine! I decided to take a little break from the studyblr community and I am currently on hiatus! However, I am planning on beginning a bullet journal starting in 2018 so I will begin posting again in late December or early January :) It's my first ever bullet journal so we'll see what happens (I'm not a very artistic person so....) but I'm excited! Thank you all for staying with me even when I'm not active â¤ď¸ I'll see you again soon!

4/5 10k appreciation posts!
*disclaimer: these methods work for me, but different people have different methods. donât use these if you donât think theyâll work for you*
English
Since these tests are normally vocabulary, use flash cards. If you donât want to buy flash cards, you can use quizlet on your laptop and on your phone. You can put the word on one side, and on the other side put the meaning, type of word (noun, adjective, etc) Â as well as a meaningful sentence, and perhaps the origin. You only need to study a little bit a day to be able to prepare for a test.Â
After studying for a bit, go over your cards again and mark the cards âgreenâ if you have no problem, âyellowâ if youâre getting there, and âredâ if you have no idea what the word is. Then you can just go over the yellow and red cards, and keep filtering until youâre confident with all cards.
History
I usually do well on memory-based history tests. However classes like AP History where a lot of the questions are ambiguous/subjective might not work for this study method (e.g. questions like âwhich of the following best represents the passage?â). But for memory-based:
First, I would make an objective sheet (unless itâs provided) of stuff that is on the test. Then I take out all my papers, worksheets, quizzes, my textbook, etc on the unit. I answer each objective one by one, and compile them all on google docs. If you want, I guess you could write out everything. BTW if you want to get the most out of making a study guide, make it yourself! That way you study while answering the objectives.
(Example of google docs [x]. Example of written out [x].)Â
This is optional, but for huge tests, I like to then put everything on quizlet. There was this one 200 point test and I had a few weeks to study for it (while still learning stuff in those weeksâŚrip). I put the stuff in the study guide onto quizlet, and organized the flash cards into different categories. (Here is an example [x]). Iâd go over one set at a time, still using the âgreen yellow redâ method (on quizlet I just star it if idk the answer). After finishing one set, Iâd move onto the next set, while still briefly studying the first set. And so on and so forth. And then the last week, I went over all the sets, starred everything I didnât know, and reviewed it.Â
Donât tell me that you donât have time to study, because trust me, you do. I would study 40 minutes on the bus everyday weeks before the test, which meant in the end I got the 2nd highest score in the class >:)
Math
Lol. Math tests are hard to actually study for, so Iâd say just make a compilation of the formulas/concept you need to know. You can use flash cards if that works for you. But mostly, finish all the homework, and do extra practices!! Usually there will be a unit review sheet that would cover all the concepts, or perhaps challenge questions, and if you finish them, youâll probably be fine.Â
Science (especially Chem)
Make an objective sheet! You can do this by listing out all the vocabulary you need to know, asking questions that you might need to explain/answer, etc. I suggest using Microsoft Onenote for this. Below is an example!
aprilâs spreads have been pretty messy but also very fun iâm appreciating the super warm weather, long weekends and happy colored pens & tapes, as you can probably tell from my spreads (also that floral tape that lisa gave me became my favorite) i hope you all are having a lovely dayâĄâĄ
5â˘1â˘17 // Finally finished making an energy pyramid for biology đ
Hiđđđđ I just started with my Bullet journal, any ideas of what spreads i can do? Other than the normal monthly and weekly logs
Ok Iâm really sorry this was supposed to just be a simple list of some pages for a bullet journal and it turned into this
Bujo basics (see more bujo masterposts at the bottom):
what is a bullet journal? (video)
how to bullet journal (video)
official bullet journal website
a blog post about bullet journaling
Hereâs some basic bujo advice that I canât back up because Iâve never had one:
use pencil first if youâre trying our a new format (and just in general because you never know when youâll make mistakes).
stick to a limited color palette (preferably lighter colors) if your worried about how it will look.
be realistic about how much you can do; if youâre not a good artist, donât make the focus point of your spread a huge elaborate drawing.
donât beat yourself up over mistakes you make. only you have to see your bujo so itâs really not the end of the world if you mess up a bit.
Notebooks:
Leuchtturm1917 (the official bullet journaling notebook)
Rhodia Webnotebook
Dotted Moleskine
Essentials Grid-Lined notebook
Baron Fig Confident notebook
a cute infographic breaking down 4 of these notebooks
Just a tip: there are 4 main kinds of notebooks - lined, dotted, gridded, and blank. I only linked dotted notebooks above, but those brands also made other notebooks so they shouldnât be too hard to find.
lined notebooks are good for when your bujo is writing-heavy (so if itâs also functioning as a journal).
dotted notebooks are probably what you see most often because theyâre so versatile. theyâre great for both writing and more doodle heavy bujos (but if you have trouble writing in a straight line they probably arenât for you).
gridded notebooks are great if your a perfectionist because they make it super easy to draw straight lines.
blank notebooks are what you want to use if your bujo will be very art focused.
Pens:
Staedler fineliners (colored pens)
Stabilo fineliners (more colored pens)
Muji gel pens (black)
Muji gel pens (colored)
Pilot G-2 0.5mm pens (my personal faves)
Pilot Juice pens (colored)
these are just some pens that are popular in the studyblr community, but you can literally use any pen (or pencil) that you want. any pens that you already have in you house are fine, so please donât go out and buy any of these just for your bujo!

6 Things People Don't Always Tell You About Studying
1. you ace tests by overlearning. you should know your notes/flashcards/definitions basically by heart. if someone asks you about a topic when youâre away from class or your notes and you can answer them in a thorough and and accurate answer, then youâre good, you know the material.Â
2. if you donât understand something, it will end up on the test. so just donât disregard and hope that this specific topic wonât be on the test. give it more attention, help, and practice. find a packet of problems on that one concept and donât stop until you finish it and know it the best.Â
3. sometimes you just need that Parental Push. you know in elementary school, they would tell you âok now itâs time for you to do your homework! you have a project coming up, start looking for a topic now!â ONE of your teachers might be like this. be thankful for it and follow their advice! these teachers are the best at always keeping you on track with their calendar. if not a teacher, then have one of your friends be that person that can keep you accountable for the things you promised you would do.Â
4. you just need to kick your own ass. seriously. i know it sucks and its hard to study for two things at once. BUT. I DONT CARE IF ITâS HARD. you need to do it and at least do it to get it over with because you canât keep putting things off. If you do, you will eventually run out of time and you will hate yourself. force yourself to do it. i made myself sign up for june ACT even though thereâs finals because if i didnât, i probably never would. like do i think iâm gonna be ready in one month? probably not, SO I BETTER GET ON IT AND START STUDYING!Â
5. do homework even if it doesnât count. if you actually try on it, then you will actually do so much better on the tests, itâs like magic.Â
6. literally just get so angry about procrastinating that you make yourself start that assignment. I know how hard it is to kick the procrastination habit. I have to procrastinate. So I make myself start by thinking about my deadlines way early. I think, âoh i have a presentation in three weeks (but it really takes 2 weeks to do), iâll be good and start today.â when that doesnât happen, you say youâll do it tomorrow, and this happens for like the next four days. I get so mad at myself for not starting when i am given a new chance to do so with every passing day. By that time, you actually have exactly how much time you need for it AND you were able to procrastinate the same way you usually do ;)
Note-Taking
Hey guys! So Iâve been receiving questions regarding my note-taking style and strategy for quite some time now but I believe I have never answered them in detail. The good news is, I finally decided to make a post about this (plus, I had fun making the graphics :D). Note that I am a visual learner, so my note-taking methods may not be effective for some of you, but I hope you can all learn something.
Class Notes
I only use one notebook for all my class notes, an A4 grid notebook whose pages I divide into two columns.
I use the outline method for in-class notes, which means I write information chronologically, in the order that they are taught. Some teachers do not have properly structured presentations/lessons (good thing my physics teacher does) so when in need, I use arrows to connect related information.
Abbreviations to me are one of the most important things to master when taking notes. I personally make them up as I go along. Some examples of abbreviations I use are:
w/c - which
w/ - with
cpd - compound
envt - environment
digenz - digestive enzyme
It might be confusing, but to me, knowing the context and part of speech are enough for all abbreviations to be comprehended.
Hereâs an example: âIndonesiaâs tsunami pre-warning system is made up of two types of componentsâ could become âIndoâs snmi pre-warn sys 2 type compâ.
After Class
The first thing I would do is highlight keywords and terminology (and sometimes formulas). For physics, since my teacher is relatively succinct, I donât really highlight, but for humanities and biology, I look for words that would be expected by a mark scheme, words that are crucial to the understanding of each particular piece of information.
I would then check if the material taught coincides with the syllabus, and if not, note down any points that are missing or have yet to be taught. You could write these on a post it or on the syllabus itself, but I prefer to highlight the syllabusâ pdf file.
Rewritten Notes
My rewritten notes are arranged based on the order they appear in the syllabus unless there are pieces of information that are related to more than one topic.
I use a black pen for rewriting notes as well as colored pens to write keywords and terminology only. I know some people who write whole sentences in colored pens but to me that is ineffective; we all have our own learning styles. When making tables, I usually use different colors for different columns (see the table for different types of radiation above) which is most often the color I associate with each word. For example, water would be blue, ocean would be a darker shade, ice would be a lighter shade, and water vapor would be purple.
I still abbreviate words in my rewritten notes, but theyâre not as condensed as the ones in my class notes. Another thing I find helpful is leaving a bit of space between separate points especially if the page doesnât have a lot of diagrams. I canât think linearly, so I canât remember super lengthy bullet points.
I use mildliners and a drawing pen to make my diagrams (more of these in my biology notes) but I only start with pencil if itâs a complex diagram. I rarely highlight my rewritten notes, but even if I do, itâs usually only the headings and formulas.
I donât have a rough draft for my notes, but I try to visualize the layout. I try to alternate between words and pictures/diagrams so that when Iâm sitting for an exam, all I have to do is imagine that Iâm looking at that page and I can remember where everything is.
Well, thatâs all from me. I hope that this information could be of some use to every single one of you. Donât hesitate to ask me questions if youâre confused about note-taking or any other problems you might have :)
So I made another collection! This round of inspirational quotes goes to the philosophers. Like the other times, I hope you enjoy these inspirational quotes and find them inspiring too!

-j. | @studygramâ¤(ËâżËÔ )
i've read that "fluency" is a bad goal as it's not measurable or definite. what are a few better language learning goals?
this is a great question! i definitely think itâs really important to have lots of small short-term goals so that you can track your progress and stay motivated by celebrating your successes, rather than just one very vague long-term goal that can seem very daunting and difficult to definethese are some of the goals i had for learning german and am currently using for norwegian and polish, vaguely in order of when i expect to achieve them:- learning all the lyrics to a song- learning to recite a poem- reading a picture book- watching a childrenâs tv show with or without subtitles- reading a wikipedia article- reading a newspaper or magazine article- understanding a whole song having looked up the lyrics- having a written conversation with a native speaker- finishing a course book (e.g. teach yourself, colloquial, etc.)- completing the duolingo tree- watching a youtube video, movie or tv show with subtitles- having a short spoken conversation with a native speaker- understanding a whole song without looking up the lyrics- watching a youtube video, movie or tv show without subtitles- having a long spoken conversation with a native speaker- getting mistaken for a native speaker- reading a novelyou might also like to check out this post about how i define fluency ăž(ďźž-ďźž)ă
4â˘11â˘17 // Bought a new dotted journal đ
So, I decided to make this post for you guys and I hope you find these tips as helpful as I did :)Â
1. Never compare yourself to others, but really, NEVER do it.
From my personal experience, I can tell you thereâs nothing more destructive than comparing yourself to another person. Every single one of us unique and has their own amazing skills. Maybe one of your friends aces Physics class but you rule when it comes to Chemistry class or a foreign language. Also never let anyone make you feel like youâre not awesome because you are. As Eleanor Roosevelt would say âNo one can make feel inferior without your consent.â So donât let them and wWhat you do, do it for you.
2. See what youâre missing and do it.
If you pay attention and make fantastic notes, but still you donât reach your desired goal and you know you can do better, check what is missing. Maybe is studying for the exam. Maybe is handing in the homework. Maybe it can be related to a poor sleep or nutrition. You gotta identify what is wrong and do something to change it.
3. Sit up front.
Again, I have experienced this and when I sit in the back I completely lose my focus and immediately start to talk with my friends and doodling on the back of my notebook. Look for the seats right in the front, youâll be able to pay more attention to what the teacher/lecturer is saying and youâll be more likely to get done your work fast.
4. Time management.
As a big procrastinator, I can tell you that not having a schedule or not planning your tasks can be really harmful to your grades. I know sometimes Season 4 of Sherlock sound more fun than Spanish reading but you need to prioritize. Make a list, from the most important task to the least, that way if you do not complete everything, you will have ready the most essential duties. Be strong and work hard, then relax.
5. Eat well and sleep well.
As I wrote in one of the past points, sleep and food can be a really influent factor in your school performance. If you only eat junk food and sleep four hours, youâll be more likely to fall asleep in class or even to suffer a lack of focus and energy because of not nurturing your body properly. I know sometimes homework takes more time that we expected to get done but if itâs not school work or something really important, you should try not to stay awake (even more if your reason to lose hours of precious sleep is to be scrolling down Instagram or Tumblr, which can be done next day). Eat your veggies and get 8-hour sweet dreams.
6. Stay hydrated.
Drink at least 2 liters of water per day. It increases energy and relieves fatigue, promotes weight loss, flushes out toxins and will get you closer to the perfect skin we all want.
7. Pray
Personally, this has been really important to me, especially when it comes to a big exam or a contest. Praying always gives me peace and makes me feel more confident. I invite you to try it, youâll see the difference. Also, studies have demonstrated that prayer helps you to have more self-control and makes you less vulnerable to the negative physical health effects associated with stress.
8. Pretend that youâll have to teach the material you are learning, that way youâll pay more attention and be more likely to memorize it fast.
Always do your best and remember that good thing take time.
Attention all studyblrs!!
