queenmoreau:
Isolde was heading back to the field that they were supposed to spend their nights at, but after spending her entire life sleeping on big, comfortable beds Isolde would just lay awake staring at the stars, trying to make the ground as comfortable as possible. But after a few days she had gotten bored and snuck away when one of the barbarians was asleep, now it had become a habit and she spent every night wandering the streets of what was once Aura.
Isolde kept her gaze ahead, focusing on the soft tinges of pink in the sky that signalled it was time to go back. She picked up her pace and dropped her gaze to her dirty boots so that she wouldn’t trip. She was so focused that she almost didn’t see another woman round a corner. Isolde stopped abruptly but it still avoid the other running into her. “Trying to escape the barbarians loud snoring” Isolde said with a smile “Why are you out here?”
Elizabeth tried to calm down. She knew her guilt was written all over her face right now, and she couldn’t afford to get caught now. This might be her last chance, or -- she was pretty sure these barbarians did public whippings, she could be in real trouble. This woman was different, though, set her at ease. She had poise, where the barbarians had nothing but awful, awful posture. This woman was on her side.
And oddly familiar. “Trying to escape the barbarians, period. I--” Hang on. She knew exactly why this woman looked so familiar. Taking a quick look over her shoulder, she bobbed a curtsy, trying to collect her thoughts. “My lady - I mean, your majesty. I come from Eden. After the festival, I - I’m trying to go home. Excuse me.” What did you say to a reigning (?) monarch like this?
