      The flurry of questions is not something that Astra has been subjected to before and she finds it oddly endearing. She’d never been that excited about meeting other species as it was common on Krypton. Having the information on them was second nature. She supposed that the unknown aspect was what had sparked Ella’s curiosity. “Please hand me the boring form. Any of the ways to get me to bleed are very difficult to achieve and painful.” She doesn’t realize that it’s a joke, having taken the words completely seriously. 

      “Are we talking invasive or more multispectral? Wait, does this mean influence weakens the cellular structure of the dermis? One would have to introduce the influence uninvasively --- God, I wish I had you in my lab,” Ella replies dreamily, absentmindedly looking for the clipboard and clicking the pen cap off before handing it to the alien. She doesn’t realize the double entendre in her enthusiasm, but smirks a bit as she picks up on it.

Not only did Ella steal cars, hop them up on illegal fuel, and drive them “really fast”, but she presumably never got caught doing any of the above, seeing as she doesn’t have any arrest record to keep her from working at a police precinct in a fairly autonomous position. She’s privy to some pretty sensitive information as a crime scene analyzer, she has to have gone through a background check to get that job. 

Ella Lopez is goals, honestly. Wild teenage years, fast cars, illegal contacts, but still enough credibility to transition seamlessly into a respectable adult job.

     “I… I —- “   A sniffle breaks the silence,  Ella for once SPEECHLESS. She breathes in with a long sob, trying valiantly to quietly steady her breath. Absentmindedly, her hand goes to her cross, fingertips rubbing nervously against the metal, fidgeting with the edges and turning it over and over until the necklace chain catches on her skin, nipping her. “Ouch.”

     She closes her eyes, swallowing hard. God, her family are idiots.  “Abuelita had a stroke. She’s in the hospital, and all because she heard that Luis was dealing again. Dammit!” Her anger is biting, better than the tightness in her throat, the fear that her 88-year-old (favorite) abuela’s health has taken a turn for the significantly worse since her visit in November. She runs her hand frantically through her hair. “I thought he’d turned his head around, idiot. For the girls,” she sighs, looking back up at Ana. “I’m sorry.”

          “What could Ricardo possibl— wait, Ella tell me you didn’t… how man laws did you break to help this friend? Because anything involving Ricardo is never above the law…” She knew Ella was never scared to break the law, and risk everything, to help someone out. And that’s what worried Ana. “You know if you get caught you’ll lose your job, right!? And not only that but they’ll throw you in prison!” 

    “Hey, I’ll have you know, a detective was by my side the entire time,” replied Ella swiftly, all but nudging a firm finger into Ana’s chest (a might fine one) for emphasis. She didn’t, however. She kept the detail of her and Dan’s B&E, doubting it’d feed Ana’s waning approval. “Relájate, chica...” Ella soothed, running her hand down her girlfriend’s forearm. “I’m not going anywhere. My friend, she’s a detective. If anything, I was doing my job.”

            She nodded, listening — well, half listening — to Ella, as she rambled. Although the part about the really good sex did snatch her attention, just a little. “Fascinating, really.” She retorted. “How you can tell a story, but manage to skip past all the interesting parts.”

   “That got your attention, huh?” Ella grinned, looking down at the virgin mojito ---she was still on the job, after all; and bit her bottom lip.  “I mean, it wasn’t enough to warrant a crisis, but not like I’m turning over napkins looking after her number. you know?”
