“Shame on you!” He burst into laughter. “It’s supposed to represent the hectic life we live now. Or the chaos all around us, though. But honestly, yeah, I get it. Most of it looks like it was painted by a two-years-old kid who was given colors and paper.”

“Hey now-- art is most definitely not my area of expertise.” Elle chuckled as she raised her hands up in fake surrender. “Yeah-- now you’re just starting to get all deep and meaningful.” She chuckled as she took a sip from her cup. “Oh, better not tell the artists that. I’m sure they’d go crazy with anger if they heard that comment.”

“Please.” She laughed, taking the towel and beginning to dry off. “It is. But I thought today we’d get a break in it… you know, actually get some sun. But alas, the weather decided to shit on that idea.”

Giving her a smile, Elle laughed. “Yeah-- as it gets closer to the colder months I never trust the weather. It changes just like that.” Elle agreed, clicking her fingers as if to make her point. “How about a cup of hot coffee?”

“Blessed are those with the gift to understand art, right?” He joked, taking another sip of his cup; this time a larger one. “I do enjoy the simple ones which I can understand but all those different periods in the art history are sometimes confusing.” Tobias agreed. “And the modern art is totally complicated for sure.”

Elle smiled as she nodded in agreement. “Actually, sometimes I have no idea where modern art is going.” She shook her head whilst laughing. “I mean-- I’ve seen pieces where it’s just a blank canvas with...a couple of splotches of paint in the middle. No idea what the point of that is.” Elle told him.

“Oh I know that, but someone who works in the photography industry, I kind of have this silly need to capture everything.” Elizabeth chuckled, looking at the woman. “Ever since I moved I’ve been trying to find the right moment of the sunset, haven’t been failing ever since.”

“Well for what it’s worth I’m sure that whatever you’ve taken is amazing, if not quite by your standards.” Elle smiled at her.  “You’re a professional after all. Whatever you take it already 100% better than what anyone else takes.”

“Did you ever crossed paths with something so beautiful, but so beautiful that you knew you had to snap a picture to make that moment last, but then when you went to see the final result, it ended up being completely different than you hoped?” Elizabeth said to the person next to her, a pout in her lips as she looked down at her camera. “I never manage to get this one right,” she sighed, erasing the picture. “And now the moment is lost.”

Elle nodded listening to the other woman speak. With all her traveling around the world she fully could understand what Elizabeth was saying. “Yeah-- definitely. But I found from my travels that a lot of the time photographs just don’t portray the same effect as the real thing. Sometimes it’s better to just live in the moment and soak it up.”

“That would be wonderful.” She smiled, nodding her head. “I’d much rather be dry than get sick, I’m such a child when I’m sick. I still call my mom and everything, it’s pathetic.”

“Well in that case-- better you get dried up.” She laughed grabbing a fresh towel from the cupboard and passing it to Hadley. “The weather’s been terrible as of late.”

“Personally, I haven’t had the chance to come across any of them either,” she said with a shake of her head. “But, the internet is filled with videos of them, so, even if it’s just some kind of ruse for likes and views, they must still be kind of crazy,” she pointed out. She didn’t know just how much she could get from talking to any of them, but the thought was somewhat amusing. “I don’t think I would get embarrassed by something like it,” she shook her head. “But, I think their expression might be priceless.”

“The internet is filled with tons of crazy videos-- I don’t even know how some of them even become viral ‘cause they’re so ridiculous.” Elle replied with a laugh though she shook the head at the thought. Weird songs and just strange videos in general... “Oh I would definitely be embarrassed by that.” She admitted finding something that they differed with. “Hopefully they don’t try to hit you first though. Now that would be a disaster.” She shrugged at that thought knowing that sometimes people made rash decisions when they were in that state of shock.

“I’m not sure I know how to appreciate it.” He said, leaning back to let the waitress place the two drinks on the table. “I’m not someone with the eye for art. Neither was my grandfather though he seemed to know a bit about it. We just roamed around and enjoyed the view.” He explained, taking a small sip from the cup, careful not to burn himself. Then he just nodded at her words.

“I can’t say that I do either. Well, not completely.” Elle admitted. “It’s just nice to give the ticket to someone who will enjoy themselves.” She smiled at him as she wrapped her hands around her cup of tea. “I’m pretty sure that’s what a lot of people will be doing anyway when the art installation is up completely, right? If I do say so myself, a lot of the time I’ve just walked up to some pieces of art and have had no idea what was going on with it so I probably just stood in front of it looking rather confused.” She told him.

Ben sat soundly with his elbow resting on the table, cheek in palm as he listened to her explain the story of her favorite gift. It was nice to know that she too liked something sentimental than materialistic, Ben could relate when his grandpa was just about to die, deciding to give his 40 year old Rolex watch to Ben. Later on, Ben got it engraved in honor of him that read ‘Pops, always on time..’ And it’s continued working, nearly 7 years later. 

“I think that’s a wonderful keepsake to have.” He marveled, looking down at the locket necklace. “Is it a lucky charm that helps you with you’re writing? Or are you just that insightful anyway?” Ben wondered, rewinding back to when she mentioned being a journalist. 

“Yeah-- you could say something like that.” She replied simply, not bothering to give away too many details. It was more the fact that it was a reminder that her mother was there watching over her and a memory of her since she’d left her old home to try get away from all the sad memories that haunted her of the time her mother was ill. Though, it wasn’t like Elle was going to admit that to him anytime soon especially considering that Ben was practically a stranger that she’d only just met.

“So what about you? You can’t ask me what’s the best gift I’ve ever received and not expect me to fire the same question back at you.” Elle grinned at him interested to hear what his answer would be.

Even though the absence of a father in the picture didn’t bother him at all, Tobias knew that shade in one’s eyes; the same one that quickly trailed off in hers. “You don’t know many people who are interested in art?” He asked after the waitress left them alone again. It was the most innocent version of asking about her personal life. “And yes, that sounds nice. You just have to give me the address because I didn’t get that part.”

“I mean-- I know people who are interested in art but there’s a clear difference between people who are interested in just looking at it for a moment and people who know how to appreciate it. Though I can’t say I’m an expert.” She replied smiling sheepishly though she was more than thankful for the subject change to a more lighter note. “I’ll text it to you tonight. I just need to double check the address with the tickets so I don’t send you on a wild goose chase to the wrong location.” Elle promised with a slight laugh.

Letting out a laugh, Hadley nodded her head in agreement as she rung out her wet hair. “Your would be kindness is appreciated, though.”

“Well, do you want a towel instead to dry off?” Elle offered, still smiling at her as she watched Hadley. “I’m sure being able to properly dry off would be a better alternative than getting sick.”

“Of course I can,” She laughed shaking her head. “And I mean...this idea certainly has more...dangers than it does positives.” Elle mentioned as she made a face.

“I believe it’s something that absolutely no one would enjoy,” she said with a shake of her head. “Unless you’re one of those crazy Russian people who seem to really enjoy swimming at lakes and rivers when the temperatures are below zero… Though I think it’s an experience that most people would just prefer to avoid.” Ali reasoned. It seemed to be the logical kind of thought there anyway. “Let’s not discard the idea altogether… I’m sure someone, down at some point, has already met someone else under similar circumstances. And, depending on the person we actually end up walking into, would we really mind it?”

Shaking her head, Elle couldn’t help herself as she laughed at Alena’s response. “Oh I definitely haven’t managed to come across anyone like that yet but I imagine they’d be quite entertaining to observe, let alone talk to.” She commented as they could see the shore emerging in front of them. “Maybe once you get past the initial embarrassment. But can you imagine the face of the other person? They’d be like ‘who the hell are you’?”
