My movie sketch for "Leviticus." Ugh, I loved this movie and I'm bummed I almost missed seeing it in theaters! I feel like almost every movie I've watched in theaters this year is (a) horror (b) really interesting. I'm spoiled by the bounty.

There were some beautiful shots in this movie but this one is the most succinct. Reaching for each other while an arbitrary thing is forcing them apart. It's really sweet in the midst of a horrible scenario.

Blown away by the impact of seeing the Utena movie on the big screen where I could soak in all the visual details that were meant to be absorbed large.

I knew before even going in that I'd want my sketchbook drawing of this movie to be based on the dance in the rose garden but I was surprised by how captivated I was with the moment right before. Utena, on the ground, vulnerable, the stars and roses around her.

Damn but I'm proud of this! I often struggle to get watercolors to be as saturated as I want but I got the blues and the reds and the pinks to behave here just how I wanted.

Release from the Patreon vault: Myths/legends.

I am always a sucker for mythological creatures so forgive me as I indulge myself with a centaur and a satyr being cute together. Ultimate tall and ultimate smaaaall, my favorite.

I have no idea if I would do anything else with these two but I was starting to get a feel for what their personalities were like in the course of sketching and I feel like it would be fun to explore further.

Monterey Aquarium had a little video spotlighting their California Sheephead fish for Pride. Sheephead are one of the many fish that will do a sex change based on environmental factors!

I wanted to spotlight one of these little beauties with a celebratory flag because it's Pride and why not showcase one being appropriately festive :)

Draw Everything June: Day 22

Final day! Ending with the inner senshi throwing a pajama party :) This group pose was so cozy and cuddly that it suits them really well! I also had fun working the body types of the models into the fanart - I've never drawn a chubby Jupiter before but I think she's really cute that way and it's something I have to consider for my own headcanon now!

Thank you to @adorkastock for hosting this challenge. As always it kicks my ass and inspires me in equal measure and I'm really grateful to have been part of it :)

Sketchbook painting for "I Love Boosters", one of my favorite movies of the summer and one of the only non-horror movies wife and I have gone to see. A surreal romp.

My little sketch cannot do the visuals of this movie justice (I need to watch it again just to study the color) but the point of a sketch is to capture not be perfect, and I do think I caught the irony baked into this perfect moment.

Draw Everything June: Day 17

Laudna and Delilah having a calm and reasoned conversation together. They're about five seconds away from biting and pulling hair. Kept this one a hair more cartoony than some of my others so I could lean into some ridiculous expressions and let it be a little slapstick.

"Send Help" was such a ride of a movie. It was exactly what it said on the tin and not at all what I expected to experience. We had a good time with it!

Everything that lodged in my brain was dialogue and not visual, but the more time passed after watching the more I found myself gravitating to the boar hunt. It's savage, it's triumphant, it's a huge moment for Linda and a huge point of contrast between the two main characters.

My little cartoon boar getting skewered is absolutely absurd looking but it also fits the vibe of a Raimi film so I leaned into it.
