so I got into grad school today with my shitty 2.8 gpa and the moral of the story is reblog those good luck posts for the love of god
okay so i just got my dream job??? a week after applying to it?? and now i’m thinking….maybe this is the good luck post
…..not even six hours later i got an offer of a well paying full time long-term job with free room and board in queens in nyc, allowing me independence and a way to escape an abusive situation and an unhealthy environment

Heres the thing you gotta understand about statistics.
“Increases your chances by 80%” does not mean “there is now an 80% chance”.
If your chances were previously 10%, your chances are now 18%, not 90%.
if your chances were roughly 1%, they’re now just slightly less than 2%.
thats how that works.

‘if you have a baby after 35, the chance of deformities goes up by 100%’ is a line I hear alot.
It goes up from .5% to 1%

100% is just another way of saying twice more likely. So 100% more basically means multiply the number you do have by 2.
Imagine how many woman are scared to have kids because of that statistic
This is why I took stats instead of calc. Because I don’t build engineer bridges in my everyday life but I sure do read studies that affect how I might live my life if I misinterpret them.

Prague: inside a cafe, pages upon pages of readings left, a warm mug of hot chocolate, the sound of chatter and soft acoustic music
London: serious Sunday studying, papers strewn across a desk, flipping from subject to subject, a steaming cup of tea, dedication
Barcelona: study groups, quizzing each other, laughter amongst friends, comparing answers, textbooks all across the table
Vienna: early morning studying, a cool glass of water and fresh fruit, flipping through flash cards, feeling prepared for the day
Berlin: late night cram session, a strong pot of coffee, hair tied back, the middle of exam season, ink smears on fingertips
Venice: preparing for a presentation, public speaking jitters, bullet points on index cards, cappuccino and a pastry
Dublin: snow outside of frosted windows, the glow of street lamps, reading warm and indoors, getting lost in a book, oversized sweaters
Paris: sunny spring afternoon, light filtering through the window, typing away on a laptop, approaching deadlines, a well organized desk
you know, life doesn’t have to be competitive. you don’t have to get in the very best university; you don’t have to get the highest paying career there is. you don’t need to compare and compete with everyone else in the world. you need to do what’s right for you. you need to relax, take a breath, and say ‘what do i want, for myself, to live as i want to’. and, if that involves high ambitions, then that’s fine. because you chose those ambitions on what you desire as an individual, and not on what is expected in order to succeed. let’s be ourselves this year.

no matter what happens, you’ll grow and change as a person. every obstacle, every rejection and failure puts you in the position to learn from it - whether by improving certain aspects about your work ethic, discipline, priorities, or by realizing that some paths were simply not meant for you. fear of failure will hold you back so much and will close so many doors for you that failure itself never could.
