what if we admitted to each other that it's not always really romance that we want. What if we admitted that what we're really craving is intimacy and society taught us romance is the only way to get it.
In a recent poll, American think that:
21% of the US is transgender (the actual number is between 0.5% and 1.6%)
30% are gay or lesbian (3%) and an additional 30% are bisexual (4%), meaning the average American thinks that only around 19% of them are cisgender heterosexuals. The actual number of cisgender heterosexuals is around 90% of the population.
30% Muslim (1%) and 30% Jewish (2%), however contradictory to this they also think 58% are Christian, equaling 118% of Americans are of the abrahamic religions to the average American or some people are both Jewish or Muslim and Christian.
33% atheist (3%), meaning the abrahamic religions+ atheism is 141% of the US population.
41% black (12%), 27% (1%) native American, 29% asian (6%), and 39% Hispanic (17%), but also 59% white (64% actual)
30% live in NYC (3%), 30% live in Texas (9%), and 32% live in California (12%), meaning only 8% live in the rest of the country (actual 76%).
And lastly the average American believe only 62% of us have a high school education, actual number is 89%.
People vastly overestimate the general knowledge of the average American, let alone political knowledge and critical thinking skills. We live in the consequences of the children left behind.
i think the near-extinction of people making fun, deep and/or unique interactive text-based browser games, projects and stories is catastrophic to the internet. i'm talking pre-itch.io era, nothing against it.
there are a lot of fun ones listed here and here but for the most part, they were made years ago and are now a dying breed. i get why. there's no money in it. factoring in the cost of web hosting and servers, it probably costs money. it's just sad that it's a dying art form.
anyway, here's some of my favorite browser-based interactive projects and games, if you're into that kind of thing. 90% of them are on the lists that i linked above.
A Better World - create an alternate history timeline
Alter Ego - abandonware birth-to-death life simulator game
Seedship - text-based game about colonizing a new planet
Sandboxels or ThisIsSand - free-falling sand physics games
Little Alchemy 2 - combine various elements to make new ones

The Cafe & Diner - mystery game
The New Campaign Trail - US presidential campaign game

Miniconomy - player driven economy game
Checkbox Olympics - games involving clicking checkboxes
BrantSteele.net - game show and Hunger Games simulators
Murder Games - fight to the death simulator by Orteil
Cookie Clicker - different but felt weird not including it. by Orteil.
if you're ever thinking about making a niche project that only a select number of individuals will be nerdy enough to enjoy, keep in mind i've been playing some of these games off and on for 20~ years (Alter Ego, for example). quite literally a lifetime of replayability.
since this post blew up, i've been wanting to do an addition with all of the recommendations from the comments and tags. but there's a lot of them. some people might be crazy enough to sit down and seriously put them all in one post with descriptions. those people are honestly sick in the head.
anyway, here's all of the recommendations from the reblogs. not all of them are text-based, but it's a great mixture of styles. also don't forget the links in the second paragraph of the OP which will take you to FMHY where there are a bunch more games listed.

Reblogging the update too
walkable cities also means sittable cities send tweet
some people are responding to this like its a joke and im going to assume u are the type of people to say "its only a 3 minute walk" when i tell them the nearest bench is too far away
also anyone who thinks "3 minutes isnt THAT bad" you will be old one day. and you will wish the bench was closer
walkable cities also means cities with free accessible public bathrooms whilst we're at it

Can we include darebee.com with ao3 and wikipedia on our list of really good nonprofits with excellent services that we stan?
It's a free, no sign-up, no ads fitness resource created by professionals who view this as activism (fitness should be accessible to everyone), and it's very thoughtful and thorough.
Features I really like:
- all instructions for workout routines are diagrammed on single pages with a clean, easy to read layout
- there's 30 or 60 day programs you can follow if you, like me, don't know what to do. they take you through a rotation of workouts so you're working different muscle groups on different day for a specific purpose
- there's so much variety and there's a filter so you can find the level and your goals and type of workout you wanna do
- you don't need any equipment
- some of the programs are RPGs or adventure stories! How's that for motivation. There's also badges and achievements or something but I haven't looked that closely at how that works yet
- they're nerds. they name workouts after D&D classes. There's a Lannistrr workout, a batcave workout, a witcher workout
- I've only scratched the surface
I'm doing this really easy one to start out

shared this over DMs the other day but I need to go public with this information. if patrick bateman lived in the pokemon universe his partner pokemon would be a pikachu because he is preoccupied with fitting in and conforming, and a pikachu is basically the trendiest and most "normal" pokemon for someone to have. and he would hate it because he didn't choose it out of a place of genuine love or passion. but he would still spend way too much time feeding it gourmet food, grooming it, and keeping it looking nice enough that it could honestly do pretty well in a contest if he ever entered it in one. but he wouldn't enter it in one, he would keep it in a designer pokeball most of the time and he wouldn't even be very nice to it (we literally have canonical information on how he'd treat a captured rat...). but all his coworkers and friends and such would see him pampering this perfectly bred pikachu and they'd think he's some kind of pokemon expert and they'd ask him questions all the time about which pokemon are best for which lifestyles, and idk shit like that. and he'd watch enough talk shows and read enough popular magazines that of course he would be able to bullshit smart-sounding advice for them but he would hate it, he would hate it so much, and he would hate pokemon and he would be miserable.
