I think about you a little less these days. Not much less but just enough where I can get through the day without crying. I miss my best friend a lot. You didn’t even try to give me the benefit of the doubt. Those months of trying to fix what I destroyed I was there and present. I wasn’t “keeping my options open”. You were never an option to me. Forgiving the fact that they’re people who are working through their past, like you, and will occasionally project their past traumas on you the way you might with them. Forgiving yourself, because growth takes time, and learning to be a pair is more work than just being on your own. Having partners you trust to forgive those moments where you might fall, help you back up and move forward, in my opinion, builds up the trust and love you need for a thriving relationship.

Remember however that forgiveness

A) goes both ways

B) once someone forgives you for a particular thing, that’s done, it’s over and digging it up the next time you end up in a disagreement is a major red flag.

Basically be willing to forgive your partner for projecting if and only if they are open to do the same when you do it. Otherwise walk the fuck away. You are not a rehabilitation center for people that aren’t willing to pick you up when it’s you that falls.
