This lesson was tough I always heard people say money doesn’t solve your problems, but in a way I didn’t really believe them. I mean, if you need more money, then you get more money - it does solve your problems right?! Wrong 🙅🏻‍♀️ After this month and a half, I can say that for certain. I made more money in these last 6 weeks than I ever have in my business (income report to come). But guess what? I also stressed more about money than I ever have before. Funny how that happens right? Little story… My fiancé and I rented a car for two weeks for our road trip from MA to FL. We have status with the car company and have been doing this process for years, so everything is generally a breeze. As we were leaving the rental company, we were told that we would have to pay an extra $200 to have two drivers because we weren’t married. And omg y’all when I tell you I was mad, I was MAD. Yes, an extra $200 is annoying, but usually I would just brush it off and move on. For some reason this time I really couldn’t move on. And it made absolutely no sense. It really made me realize that no amount of money will ever help me feel less stressed. The only thing that will actually help is working on my relationship with money. -To stop feeling guilty about the non-essential purchases -To feel okay not getting the best deal -To splurge a bit on comfort or experience -To buy something even if I could have “done it for free” or “made it myself”. -To not get upset when unexpected charges happen Money can be an amazing thing, but only if you let it be an amazing thing. I am so grateful for all that I have created, but it definitely doesn’t mean all my stressors have gone away. Tips on course creation ⬇️ My signature course, The Money Making Traveler, launches to the waitlist tomorrow 🥹 I have worked on this course every day for 5 months, so seeing it launch will be a surreal moment for sure. It has been a lot of work, but I have truly loved every second 🙏 I have had so many questions about course creation, so thought I would break it down for y’all! I took about two months to plan out the course components, research how I wanted to create it and where it should be housed, and complete the module research. After this was complete, I launched my Beta version and welcomed 22 amazing money makers inside 🙌🏼. I then took three months to create the slides, film, write the descriptions, and time stamp the 87 video lessons. I want my videos to feel like you are live with me, so I don’t do a ton of scripting or editing. If that is your style, I would recommend another month! -For my slides, I used @canva. -For my platform, I used @stanforcreators -For filming I used @zoom, but would switch to @use_loom in the future for a bit better quality. You can also use QuickTime if you are just doing voice overs or videos. Why I turned down a global brand 😓 Correction: They ghosted me after I called them out on their BS contract. I was ecstatic when this major brand reached out to partner. I seriously couldn’t believe I was going to work with such a huge company that I love and use often. I felt like I had “made it”. We agreed upon a price and deliverables and they sent me over the contract. I read it over and my stomach sank. I had never seen a contract like that before. They basically wanted me to sign my life away and they certainly were not going to pay enough for it. Although I clearly knew they were taking advantage of me, it still took a lot of guts to stick up for myself. -“What if I say something and they don’t want to work with me anymore.” -“What if I blow my chances forever.” -“But it would look so great to have on my media kit.” -“If I work with a brand like this, people will know I’m legit.” Thankfully, I did not let these fears stop me. I sent them an email back with everything I wanted changed and the additional payments I would need to receive. Crickets. And I’m okay with that. I stuck with my morals and didn’t let them take advantage of me or my services. It’s time like these that I am so happy that I do not rely solely on brand deals. I am grateful that have I built other sources of income that allow me to be super picky about the brands and companies I work with. Follow your gut, know your worth, and when things don’t work out, trust that something better will be coming your way ❤️. 2022 highs and lows ⬇️ High: I had my first brand partnership. I actually got paid to post. The dream! Low: I had a brand steal content from me. And learned a valuable lesson. High: I quit my job to travel the world and create content full time. Exhilarating 🎉 Low: I had to process no longer being the girl that followed the path and did everything “right”. High: I traveled to over 19 countries. Most of them new and many of them solo. Low: I experienced travel burnout and guilt from being away from family/friends. High: I launched my first group trip to Bali and 18 people signed up the first day! Low: I launched my second group trip to Croatia and no one signed up. High: I had my first 5 figure month then 5 figure week as a creator. Low: There were months I made less $500 dollars and had no idea how I was going to last long term. High: I worked with major tourism boards and travel companies. Low: I got rejections from many other boards, companies, and accommodations. High: I scored my first 10K brand deal for 2023. Say what?! Low: I had to cut a contract with a brand. Taught me a lot about contracts. High: I spoke at my first travel conference about how to monetize your Instagram. Low: I had to deal with imposter syndrome, comparison traps, and limiting beliefs. High: I launched my first programs and had over 200 enrollees overall. Low: I had to deal with the immense pressure of wanting to be the absolute best for your students. High: Someone told me my program was the best thing they ever bought. Low: Someone asked for a refund. High: My instagram grew to from 1K to 45K travel babes! Low: I had to deal with trolls, bots, and nasty comments. High: I experienced many of those “I love my life” moments. Low: I experienced crippling anxiety for the first time. High: I loved working for myself and making money while traveling the world. Low: I had a hard time balancing self care, relationships, and my work. High: This amazing freakin community ❤️ I love you so much! When the business you created so you can travel more, is now holding you back from traveling 👎🏼 Well, it’s not actually my business. It’s me (Hi, I’m the problem 😅) As my business continues to scale, I am finding myself with more and more responsibilities. More areas where I need to show up, provide, educate, learn, and create. Of course I can do these things when traveling, but the intrusive thoughts still come. What if I can’t connect to wifi? What if my computer gets stolen? What if I lose my phone? What if I can’t find a place to film? What if I miss that email? What if I can’t get on that call? What if what if what if! It’s times like these when I need to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. Are these things the end of the world? No. Is there always a solution? Yes. 30th Country & Updates ⬇️ In 2017, I made a bucket list of things I wanted to do before 30. One of those things was hit 30 countries. This September, I took the bus from London to Belgium and checked off a major bucket list goal 🥹 Belgium, especially Bruges, absolutely blew me away. I couldn’t have picked a better 30th country! Since being back in states, I have had time to reflect on my 7 month journey. I really didn’t think I changed that much during that time, but boy was I wrong. I have evolved so much and that is causing me to want to evolve my travels, my business, and this account. What does that mean? I want more for myself and this community. I want to empower. I want to support. I want to encourage. I want to have FUN! I want to travel more intentionally, which for me means going out of my way to support women owned businesses. I am no longer feeling called to share “Top things to do in xyz” or “What do to in xyz.” I want to share personal stories and experiences. For content, you will definitely hear me talking more about ways to make money while you travel. It’s almost 2023 and I want all my ladies to have businesses and side hustles they enjoy! 24hrs in Sopot ⬇️ [SAVE 📌] Myself and a few other travel creators had the pleasure of exploring @visit.sopot.pl for an overnight in October. Here are all the fun things we did that I would highly recommend! P.S. I did not go here solo, but it would make a perfect solo trip based on safety, walkability, accessibility, activities, and cost 🙌🏼 Stay: I stayed at @sopotpark45 and loved it! It was a unique bungalow that was 2 minutes from the beach and the bike path. They also had a restaurant and rooftop! 1.) @kaiser_patisserie for coffee and the dreamiest pastries. 2.) Sightseeing tour of Sopot on bikes. 3.) @mammamiasopot to taste the healing brine waters with a view. 4.) Take in all the lovely buildings and architecture. 5.) @operalesna to see the stunning open-air forest opera. 6.) Have a stroll through the many city parks. 7.) @fisherman.by.koziorzemski for the best seafood and wine in Sopot! 8.) @sopotmarriott @meraspasopot for a body treatment & luxury spa experience. 9.) Shop the town at the many shopping streets and malls. 10.) And of course the beach and @sopot__marina to see the longest wooden pier in Europe! Same spot, 10 years later 🥹 I got my first passport when I was 17 years old. I was going to England and a Scotland with my high school and couldn’t have been more excited. I chose to travel over paying for drivers ed and worked weekends and holidays to make it happen. That trip was filled with all the magic and wonder I could have hoped for. The travel bug was strong! It took 4 more years before I used my passport again. I went to Mexico for spring break with about 50 of my college friends. It was unreal of course 🤪 Today, about 10 years since my first trip abroad, I am en route to my 30th country. Little high school Emily would be jumping with joy (because I am right now 🤭). WELCOME TRAVELERS 🤗 I couldn’t be happier to have you in the Emily Eats and Explores family ❤️ My name is Emily and I am an epidemiologist turned full time solo traveler and content creator 🎉 I have had the travel bug all my life and knew that 10 days off a year wouldn’t be enough for me to travel the way I wanted. So I saved up, quit my job, and started seeing the world while making money from my phone (crazy!) 🌎 I have traveled to 29 countries and almost all 50 states and have no plans of stopping anytime soon! 🙌🏼 Here are some fun facts about me: 1.) I am a certified birth and postpartum doula. I have been to multiple births - including my nieces!🤰 2.) I played the clarinet for 10 years. In high school, I played in a parade at Magic Kingdom 🎶 3.) I was a cheerleader and in a sorority in college. Yes, I am very bubbly 🤪 4.) I am obsessed with Zumba and dancing. I will dance in the middle of a store and not give a crap 💃 5.) I am 4’11, so I am always climbing on counters and shelves 🐒 6.) I was home schooled in the 1st grade. It was awesome, but I had major FOMO 🤣 7.) My parents ran an Inn built on 1800s, so I lived there for part of my childhood. It was haunted 👻 8.) The only dogs my family ever had were Dalmatians! I have never not had a Dalmatian in my life 🐾 9.) I have read all the Harry Potter books and have watched all my movies multiple times ✨ 10.) I have only broken one bone in my life. Budget Travel Tips 💸 [SAVE + FOLLOW] I say it all the time, but travel does not have to be expensive! Here are my favorite budget travel tips after traveling to 29 countries: 1.) Track your expenses! You need to know how much you are spending. I use the app TrailWallet. 2.) Volunteer through organizations like @worldpackers. You will usually get accommodation and some meals, while learning new skills and experiencing a new culture ($10 OFF in bio). 3.) Stay in hostel to save on accommodation. Plus, they are great places to meet other travels! I find all my hostels on @hostelworld. 4.) Be flexible! Being flexible with your months and dates could save you hundreds! 5.) Use points and mile. Get a travel credit card and hit the minimum spend. You can use the points for free flights and hotels! I love my @capitalone Venture X card (link in bio). 6.) Cook for yourself. Going out to eat everyday can really add up. You can save a ton by grocery shopping and cooking your bigger meals. 7.) Walk or use public transportation. Walking is the best way to explore a new town or city! Also, opt for using public buses or metros vs. Ubers and taxi. 8.) Pack carry on only. This will not only save you money on checked luggage, but it will also save you tome (fav travel bags in bio). 9.) Use google flights to find the best flight deals. I love the map, calendar, flexible dates, and alert options. Flight prices can change by hundreds day to day. 10.) Watch your alcohol intake! Alcohol can add up like crazy when you are traveling. If you are going to drink, opt for local wine or beer. 11.) Find free activities. You can always find a free walking tour, concert, fair, or event. 12.) Lastly, get an ATM card that reimburses your ATM fees and doesn’t have foreign transactions fees. My favorite is @charlesschwab.
