Pattern of the day.
First day back since the seizure. I started with system issues which stressed me out and an hour in a manager checked in on me because I was returning to work after absence and it was my managers non working day. Well… I started crying. Christ it’s like I save all my tears for work. I think the seriousness of last Monday dawned on me. I’ve taken a lot of knocks to the head, got my fair share of scrapes and bruises and my tongue has been through hell but coming around from a seizure covered in blood and being injured enough to require stitches is a completely different experience. It kinda put it into perspective of what can happen. I was making dinner at the time, I could have been holding a knife!
I got the stitches out yesterday and the nurse asked if it was a man or a woman who did them because they were very neat. I thought it was a bit of an odd question but told him it was a man. He wouldn’t give me an answer as to which gender he thought was better at giving stitches. Maybe he was just gathering data 😅
I had to cancel my first MS test since it involved sticking stuff on my head. Luckily they can fit me in on Thursday. I want to get all these tests out the way as quickly as possible but I haven’t even got appointments for the others yet so I guess it doesn’t matter too much.
Easier said than done but I need to stress less. I’m getting stressed over stuff I don’t need to get stressed about or stuff which is out of my control. The manager today joked (at an appropriate moment and he was working from home so it was in private) that it’s baffling that I’m here getting upset that I haven’t been able to get on with my work when most of the department would relish in system issues if it meant they could do nothing for nearly an hour. He told me next time I have system issues I need to embrace the downtime 😂
Yesterday I had a seizure and hit my head on something and the boy had to ring for an ambulance because I had a gash in my head and it was bleeding. There was A LOT of blood which is apparently common with a cut to the head. It usually takes me a while to come around from a seizure and I can sometimes be quite confused so coming around to blood all over me and paramedics in the flat was quite something.
The paramedics were amazing, apparently got here really quickly and then they sent another guy to come do the stitches because I only needed a few so didn’t have to A&E and wait hours! I didn’t even know that was something that could be done!
I now have 3 stitches and a very bruised head and I’m meant to be going to the first of my MS tests today but they stick things to my head 🤦🏻♀️ Going to have to ring them and see if it’s still possible or fine to reschedule. Kind of want to reschedule but I hate being that person who does that and who knows when I might get another appointment!
Me: Right, got to take it easy. Only second time back after months of not climbing.
Climbing wall: Have you seen these lovely hard corner climbs? Corners are your favourite aren’t they?
Me: 👀

Pattern of the day!
CLIMBING!!!
I looked through the chicks n chalk chat and from that was able to work out that the last time I went climbing was January. Five whole months without climbing!!!
Went with the boy who hasn’t been in an even longer time than me and we both had a great time. I asked if he was comfortable with me belaying and I said I was cool if he wasn’t, we could boulder / auto belay but he was fine with it as I’ve been seizure free for months and don’t have them during the day. I was more concerned about the neurologist telling me to let him know if I collapse, lose feeling in one side on my body or lose my vision, there’s only so much a grigri can help 😂
Might reach out to the ladies to see if they want to meet for some bouldering. I much prefer climbing with ropes but I’m definitely not belaying anyone else (even if they’re ok with it!) until I get my test results back and we know what’s wrong with my stupid brain 😅
I had an email to say I had a hospital appointment and I opened it up expecting it to be for one of the first of my tests but it’s a telephone appointment with the neurology team in three weeks and now I don’t know what’s going on as the neurologist said we’ll next talk after all the results have come in? He said nothing about another call with him or anyone else. Did he forget to say or ask something? Is he going to say sorry he got my results mixed up with someone else’s and isn’t concerned I have MS anymore? 😂
I could perhaps call and see if I can find out roughly what it might be for but last time I called I was in the queue for 40 minutes and I ain’t got time for that. Plus I’m not sure how much information a receptionist will be privy to anyway.
As the boy says, I always need something to stress about 🫣
Current obsession is tempeh.
Had my appointment with the neurologist and with the combo of my MRI and losing my vision earlier in the year, I’m being sent off for more tests to rule out MS 🙃
Oh and increasing my epilepsy medication too.
I can’t be dealing with two medical conditions, one is hard enough 😂
On the plus side this neurologist is so lovely, actually seems to care a lot which I kind of got from our telephone appointment earlier in the year but even more so in person. Even one of the nurses made a comment that I was lucky to be seeing him 😅
I complimented a customer today by saying she was the most lovely person to ever raise a complaint I’ve had.
She was a retired lady and wanted to call to complain but apparently was sorry she had to do so and she wanted it noted just so it doesn’t happen to others. She worked retail all her life and my god you could tell she’d dealt with customers because she was so apologetic and polite about it. She said herself she knows what it’s like to be at the receiving end.
She was so nice that I offered her the max compensation I’m authorised for so now I’m wondering if the complaints team might ask why I gave so much for something that wasn’t really a big deal but I have my excuse lined up already 😅
Anyway, this is message to say that it’s ok to raise complaints but don’t be a dick about it. And if you’re extra nice there’s a chance you might get more compensation out of it 😝
I got back from Bern Friday night and it was good!
We started one day out in the sunshine with the factor 50 on only to be caught in a hailstorm in the afternoon. It was actually painful and we returned home with red dots over us from where the largest parts hit us, was wild.
To be honest we kind of didn’t do that much which I was a little thankful for. Best friend’s partner had to work overtime and their doggo isn’t great at being left so we mostly just explored and walked about. There was a day where it was raining and besides taking the dog for a walk twice and going for ice cream, we literally sat in all day playing computer games and watching stuff. I know I’ve flown to a foreign country and a new place so should make the most of it but we all wanted to do what we do best and slob on the sofa with my best friend of nearly 25 years. I think it was what everyone needed. We’re all going through crap at the moment so the week almost felt like a group therapy session.
It’s always been the opposite of what I like to do but I’m starting to understand why some people just go and sit on a beach doing nothing for two weeks 😅
I wanted to do a Bern vs Zurich comparison but I don’t think I can do it fairly because the experience has been very different due to our various current situations but it has my city requirements: walkable / good public transport, climbing walls (although didn’t get chance to go this time!) and good vegan food. There’s talks of best friend maybe moving to Basel as his partner is trying to convince him to move so I might be seeing more of Switzerland in the future. He’s got an appointment with the bank to discuss a mortgage so this might be more permanent though.
And in true Emma fashion, it wouldn’t be a holiday if I didn’t google vegan bakeries and make us walk out of our way to find it. My research never disappoints!
Just finished my Saturday shift and putting that out of office on was a glorious feeling 🙌🏻
Lowered the walk interval time and had to dig deep for this one!
Then I came home and the boy had got me a plush of Ana from Spelunky 2!!!! It’s one of my favourite games! They’re only doing Ana and I always play as Tina but put on some yellow pants and a yellow helmet and you’re pretty much there anyway!
Pattern of the day.
Met up with stealy manager after work. I reached out to him last week to check how he was getting on and we decided to meet up for a drink. He seems to be doing ok. He hasn’t found work but not worried just yet. I’ve got my fingers tightly crossed that he finds something good, he deserves it!
Felt I might have been a bit of a downer though. The boy found out he was being made redundant yesterday and that combined with my up in the air health issues, plus a day of constant system issues, I wasn’t exactly a ray of sunshine and just moaned about everything 😅
Seems he still speaks to two of the other fellas at work occasionally so he’s up to date with most of the latest drama that’s happening. Someone else has jumped ship. Well, technically they haven’t jumped ship, they’ve gone on a 6 month secondment to another department at a higher grade. Admittedly I don’t know him all that well but I believe he was searching for other jobs so even if it only lasts the 6 months, I don’t think his intention is to end up back here at a lower pay scale 😂
Yesterday I worked upper body and then did 15 minutes on the rower and today I worked lower body, tried to run for a bit and my body just said ‘na girl, I ain’t in the mood for this shit’ so I went and did 20 minutes on the cross trainer instead 😂
Usually I do cardio then weights but I thought I’d mix things up.
Tomorrow it’s back to work and it will very much be a rest day. It has been a glorious three days being able to have the energy and time to exercise, it’s made me feel so good.
This time next week I’ll be on a flight to Switzerland again!!!! So excited! Best friend now lives in Bern so that’ll be fun to explore. I absolutely loved Zurich when he lived there so I hope it isn’t a downgrade 😅
