Extrasolar Charity Announcement

Hello everyone! First off, we would like to give a big “Thank you!” to all our followers and for everyone reblogging our announcement post. We’re so excited to see that the community is as excited about this project as we are! Thank you!

Now, on to the good stuff. Extrasolar will be a charity zine and that means we’re donating all of the net proceeds (all funds made after cost of materials, shipping, etc.) to an incredible 501© 3 non-profit organization!

About the Trevor Project:

The Trevor Project is an accredited 501© 3 Non-Profit organization whose mission is to “end suicide among gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer & questioning young people.”

We have chosen this organization because they are a highly reputable charity that spends 81% of all donations earned on their incredibly important programming. They have a four star rating on Charity Navigator and you can check out their profile here.

They aim to fulfill their mission in four core ways: “1. Provide crisis counseling to LGBTQ young people thinking of suicide. 2. Offer resources, supportive counseling and a sense of community to LGBTQ young people to reduce the risk that they become suicidal. 3. Educate young people and adults who interact with young people on LGBTQ-competent suicide prevention, risk detection and response. 4. Advocate for laws and policies that will reduce suicide among LGBTQ young people.” (quote taken from here)

Since the Trevor Project provides such an important service to LGBTQ youth, it’s extremely important that we spread the word. It’s this zine’s goal to provide the above organization with a gift that creates an impact. We, the mods, can not do this on our own. We will need the help of the Voltron community to SHARE, SHARE, SHARE!!

I watched the first episode. I can’t vouch for the rest of it but the first episode made my heart swell a bit. A lot of it is about finding those people that you can make your guides and role models, and that’s not something I feel like we get to see a lot, we see the kids just left to forge through on their own in the big and scary. The anime seems to grab just a slice of the full manga’s story (obviously) but despite Horou Musuko being one of my favorite manga of all time, I never did finish the anime.  I didn’t think it was all that interesting an adaptation, and it’s so good as a comic.

The Horou Musuko manga is not only good, it’s really important.  It follow a transgendered girl and a transgendered boy and it follows them encountering and stuggling with:

dysphoria

trans* objectification

the intersection of gender identity and sexuality

passing

puberty

what adult life will be like as a trans person

experimenting with (“trying on”) gender signifiers

evolving identities

binary questioning

being a partner to a trans person

All while mired in Japanese society and expectations.

Luckily for EVERYONE, Fantagraphics press is translating and publishing the comic is BEAUTIFUL hardbound volumes.

But if you don’t have the money, I know you can easily find scanlations online, which are translated all the way to the end (Fantagraphics is about half way.)

It literally costs $7 to get Crunchyroll for a month (assuming you’ve already used the14-day free trial) and $10 for one month of VRV (assuming you’ve already used their 30-day free trial). I highly recommend VRV, their selection is excellent and their interface is really well-designed.

I know some people really are financially struggling to the point that even $10 is a luxury they can’t afford, but most people using this website have bought a sandwich or a pair of drinks in the last month that have cost more than $7 without blinking. If you really care about topics like this in media, please support that media legally.

My Dream Demon, Penidy.

When I did this the first time, it deleted and now I’m mad and sad so now, I’m just gonna keep this short.

Penidy is my Dream Demon. In this picture, it’s what he looks like as a human but as a “Demon” he is a transparent, light blue raindrop and he’s the most adorable thing ever and if you don’t think so then fITE ME!

Throughout his life, Penidy was known to be extremely sad. No one knows why but everyone is used to his sad expressions and quietness. Penidy tends to stutter when he gets extremely sad or when he feels as if things have gotten out of hand. Even though his persona might come off as a bit iffy, he loves to be by his friend’s sides and takes care of them before he takes care of himeself. He feels as if their feelings are more important than his...mostly because he’s insecure about himself. When he’s happy...he’s happy, you know? He smiles and blushes so brightly when he’s happy that it’s honestly tOO MUCH. But his friends love it! hIS LAUGH IS SO BEAUTIFUL He loves attention and hugging and all types of affection especially when he’s having a bad day. He wants to feel worthy of his friends and his boyfriend. Now, time for the looks!

Hair: His hair is short (ends at the middle part of his neck) and slightly curly, dirty blonde with light and dark blue highlights.

Eyes: Penidy’s eyes are the shades of the sky and the sun when it sets you know? Purple, light blue, yellow, orange! And so on, and so forth.

Skin: His skin is tannish but slightly...darker? It’s hard to explain. Tan yet a bit on the darker side.

Outfit: For his top, he likes to wear turtlenecks! Especially turtlenecks that are different shades of blue or purple but for now, let’s go with a lighter shade of blue! For pants, he wears blue skinny jean shorts on top of black tights. So basically, he puts on the tights first then puts on the shorts if that makes it better. (hIS HIPS DONT LIE IM JUST SAYING! hE gOT SOME GOOD HIPS THAT’LL MAKE THE GIRLS JEALOUS 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽sHAKIRA SHAKIRA~ Sorry, I’ll stop pFT-)

Shoes: He doesn’t like wearing shoes so he just wears fashionable sandals that goes with his outfit. If not, then he’ll wear black converse.
