That’s not what Chris was expecting in response, finding himself quickly leaning forward to try and reassure the other. He’s a bartender, knows that questions are always a part of the job most days. Even if he never expected questions like that, he gives a smile to hopefully ease him.
“No, no, it’s alright! I’m not upset or anything. I just wasn’t expecting the question —”
::『❤』eмpaтнιc нearт ::
The smile is a bit infectious, or maybe he just doesn’t want to startle the boy anymore than he already has. A hand comes up to gently wave at the flurry of fussing already coming up.
“It was still rude of me. I’m sorry if I’ve pried any... Force of habit.”
Abell’s expressive shifts to something more embarrassed, letting his hand fall and resting his arms on the counter and sighing through his nose. Fingers tapping out of sorts over his sleeve, before he tilts his head somewhat.
“... I suppose I should leave my work at the door in this sort of place.”
bluecladprincess:
It was her fault really–not looking where she was going. Her eyes had been cast upwards, peering around at the city, curious about everything she could see. She hadn’t meant to walk clear into the poor man as they both rounded the same street corner at the same time. “Oh–!”
But before she knows it, she’s fallen onto the snow-dusted sidewalk with a wince, though she’s equally quick to try to get up and help as well, scrambling as she tries her best not to slip on the slippery concrete and end up right back on the ground.
“No, I–I’m sorry, I…!” She trails off, just allowing the both of them to actually get up off of the sidewalk in silence, and she brushes snow and dirt off of her pants, rubbing a sore elbow once she’s tidied up.
“I wasn’t looking where I was going,” she says, and frowns as she watches him put the empty paper cup in his bag–he’d spilled his drink because of her. “If I hadn’t been looking at that,” she waves a hand up at a bright neon light advertising a nearby clothing outlet. “I would’ve seen you. Please–let me replace your drink? I feel awful about this.”
::『❤』eмpaтнιc нearт ::
“I suppose that makes two of us...”
He’s been knocked over many a time, with an active daughter to raise, so he wasn’t too worse for wear. Brown eyes catch her rubbing her elbow, and he feels a bit of a weight sink his shoulders... Even if he tries to shrug it offer at her offer.
“Er--... That’s very kind of you. Though, I’m a bit more worried about your arm.”
Hesitantly, he fumbles in his bag for a moment before producing a bunch of bandages all linked together, tearing one free and offering it to her with a apologetic smile.
“It’s probably just a scrape, my daughter gets them often. But, please accept this, I really am sorry you were hurt.”

She didn’t mean to cut off his attempt at being a gentleman, quiet energy taking over the motion already. A smile comes across her face to try and comfort the man before her. This whole date is for him as is the role she’s wearing like her own skin. Whatever he might need it for is hardly Ari’s business nor is she inclined to ask him for details. Her job is to give him exactly what he asked for and hopefully brighten his day in the process.
All the same, her posture relaxes from the worry with an exhale that has her shoulders relaxing completely knowing he didn’t have to wait. Green eyes come up to look at him and her smile only brightens, eyes coming to light with a laugh coming from a genuine source of emotion. If anyone were to look to them, she hardly looks to be playing any kind of role at all. It might as well be as she usually is. Just as it’s meant to be.
“Don’t worry, I’ve been here a few times. Their pastries are really good, if you like sweet things. I like their tea most, though – were you looking for something in particular? It’ll make suggestions easier.”
A warm kind of calm, a fond sort of smile with a hand forward to offer help as she leans forward in her seat toward him in interest of what his reply will be. While it is true that this is a job to her, the way that she pays the bills — she enjoys her time and wants to give him what he has asked for.
::『❤』eмpaтнιc нearт ::
A moment passes before his shoulders relax gratefully to know that she’s familiar with this particular café, though even if she hadn’t been at least he wouldn’t be fumbling alone. Fingernails skim absently over the table, distracted if it wasn’t for the intent way he’s gathering his words.
“I hadn’t decided yet, really. Beyond that even if they have good café, I certainly won’t be partaking of it.”
The laugh that follows is an attempt at joking, however odd it is. Given it was a café and the origin of the name, to not drink coffee within the walls of one seemed almost like blasphemy. Even if it falls flat, he doesn’t continue down that road and instead adjusts his glasses with one hand; biting his lip with a nervous tick.
“Do you have a favourite tea they serve then? I’m partial to most, so I doubt you’ll find one I won’t at least be willing to give a try. As for pastries... Mm, you seem more knowledgable about sweets than I would be. I wouldn’t know where to begin.”
He doesn’t want to seem like he’s dominating the conversation, but he’s also curious. Perhaps as curious as she is, in regards to their mutual company. Or, well... Was she curious at all? Given the circumstance... Abell puts the thought out of his mind promptly, not wanting to dwell on something quite that depressing just yet. Maybe when he was back home and wrapped up in blankets, he would entertain it. But, not now. He leans his chin into his palm and smiles at her.
acephalousantics:
“Still a horse, of course. Just a special sort of breed.”
There were rumors that the breeds birth started with dragon blood being added to the line, but they’d been around just as long as their ancient riders, so no one knew for certain if it was true, or if the breed had been handmade just for Dullahans. Either way, Somhairle is plenty happy to let Spook loom over him, and reward her with pets simply for existing. Now, it was time to see how the rest of this meeting was going to go.
“Oh, Silly me, I believe introductions may be in order. This is Spook-” She whinnies, and snorts, blowing ash and cinder from her nostrils. An odd enough ‘introduction’ as is, but it was about to get much odder, as the dullahan bumped his own head down from his neck, catching it by the hair and bringing it out like one would a hat as he swooped into a stage bow, letting it swing where it hung by his hair..
“And I am Somhairle. Its a pleasure to make your acquaintance.”
::『❤』eмpaтнιc нearт ::
Well, that in and out of itself had nosedived right past bizarre and into the unthinkable land of questionable sanity. Horses, special breed or not, certainly didn’t snort burned remains from their noses. They weren’t furnaces. All the same, he nods faintly at the first introduction... Only to have his earlier visual all at once make sense.
Watching someones head tumble from their shoulders and roll into an open hand only to dangle precariously from it’s hair... It was almost like a sight from a morbid fantasy book, where the onlooker became horribly afraid yet somehow felt compelled to remain--Solely for storybook purposes, of course. Any normal person would have long fled at the sight.
Except, of course, Abell. His legs are far too cold now, and despite being much more awake than he had been in the last while since they’d begun talking, he doesn’t feel particularly threatened. Somewhat grotesque party tricks aside... This, Somhairle didn’t seem like he was going to hurt him. More like a cheeky young adult... Who just happened to be riding a giant horse that breathed out ash and could remove his head from his shoulders.
“... I feel I should be screaming or something by this point, if this were one of those cheap thriller films. Sorry if that was your intent.”
Arms slip closer around himself at another brisk chill, and he exhales with a sigh and offers a faint smile at the pair. By all rights, he should be terrified. And he probably is, somewhere under exhaustion and the crushing depressive feeling that left him sitting in the park this late in the first place.
“Ah, where are my manners. My name is Abell. It’s a pleasure to meet you as well, Somhairle.”
@bluecladprincess | starter call !! ( plotted tbh! )
::『❤』eмpaтнιc нearт ::
“Ah! I’m so sorry!”
Those are the first words to leave his mouth as he promptly finds himself landing on the ground in a heap alongside the young girl in front of him; empty cup on one hand being discarded temporarily as he tries to help her and get to his feet himself again. It’s ungraceful, but he manages as best he can until they’re both upright again. Abell stoops down to pick up his fallen cup, sighing faintly before crushes it into a flatter shape and setting it into his bag after a careful shake.
“Are you alright, miss? I am terribly sorry... I should have been paying better attention.”
Whether it was his fault or not, he fully intended to shoulder the blame.
Just because I’m soft-spoken doesn’t mean anyone can tread all over me.

acephalousantics:
The shadows are the friend of a dullahan out for a cool down trot, his ears perking up and head whipping around with a ‘bounce’ before his body follows, leading to him sitting side saddle on the unsaddled horse. He spends a moment looking at the human, before looking back at where Spook was finishing off the squirrel.
“ Well, Nuts. ”
Somhairle slides off her back, an indication for her not to carry on when she was done with her snack. Time for an attempt at damage control, though at least the human wasn’t ‘flipping his shit’ or anything similar. He doesn’t like having to blind people outside of his working range when its not necessary. Most of the time this late at night he’d be able to guide them home, put them to sleep, and they’d think the strange man without a head was just a dream. Or have one really unbelievable story to tell their friends.
“Most horses are. But, ah, You could say she’s on a Special Diet, Plants don’t really do it for her.”
He can hear her tongue rasping across the concrete she’d stomped the squirrel into, getting up bits of bone and blood and runaway flesh, which meant she was almost done keeping her head down, and there would be no hiding her teeth and eyes as the shadows did her frame. It’d be introduction time soon.
::『❤』eмpaтнιc нearт ::
With the addition of the comical head-moving-before-body party trick, the situation dives from surreal to just plain bizarre. Or it would, if the shadow of the evening hadn’t left it in the realm of possibly being a trick of the light. But, it’s over too quickly to be sure, and then the rider is wandering over. There’s half a moment of thought to look at him before he’s tucking his scarf more snuggly at a sudden chill.
“Carnivorous then? ... Are you sure she’s a horse?”
It seems odd to question it, given they’ve both recognized her as such; yet he can imagine an instance in which a horse would willingly consume a small animal or any meat at all. But, ah... He was exhausted, what place did logic have here?
Or so he thinks until said ‘horse’ lifts her head, and he has the vaguest prickle over the back of his neck; he shudders from the cold and stares absently between them with slowness. Abell’s thighs are still burning and his knees aren’t very pleased with the lack of motion and they’re starting to lock up again.
“Well, she’s rather, ah... Unique. For whatever she is.”
