People need to understand that the cursing in the Hellaverse (among other adult shows) has nothing to do with "maturity" and everything to do with not needing to censor ourselves "for the kids".

The way Hellaverse characters curse is just how adults who are confortable with it curse around each other. It's that simple.

I'd say it also has to do with not needing to look "professional" around other people. Most sinners don't have a "normal" job so they don't need to "act right" ( the most normal job we see is working for vox tec, snd vox doesnt seem to mind cursing, but im sure theres some person somewhere down in pentagon city who cares about it still) and the rest of the time, YOU'RE IN HELL. WHO CARES.

So folks use cursing as part of the verbal seasoning, as God intended.

I do think these 2 shots being in the same episode is significant.

But I think it's deeper than just a surface reading. That being Alastor naturally dislikes people people racist to him / targeting him (which is what's happening but like layer one of what's happening.)

My question for the party in life is was it Alastor's choice to be there. I'm guessing that he didn't. The reason I think he didn't is becuase we see where he choice to party the speak easie. This would also parallel is curent situation because if he is being forced to go to this rich people party it would be because of the producers.

At both of these point he has gained power though outher people and in doing so thoughs people now have power over him. The producers literally being his bosses he'd have to be beholden to or he could lose the job he worked so hard for. Rosie has more litteral power owning his soul in exchange for him being the most powerful sinner.

With both of these he does love the power he gets from these people. Alastor loved being the radio host and he loves being the most powerful sinner in hell.

Now he resents that Rosie is putting him in danger by haveing him portect the hotel especially in his curent condition. Danger he didn't know he was going to be put in because he didn't understand Angels could hurt him. Now that he's wounded he's in danger

And the thing that people seem to offten gloss over with party guy is that isn't just a micro agression in this context. It is a implicet threat of actual violence. He is implicitly in this crowd being like look no one cares what happends to you. Hate crimes where extremely common at the time and often had zero consiqensess. So maybe party guy would never have followed though on that threat but Alastor would have no way of knowing that or if he's in actually danger because of him. Regardless viweing this is a potentially dangerous situation he's been placed in aginst his will is where I draw the parallel.

It is very ironic to consider the devil from the Bible is less of a threat to Alastor than some random guy but he is.

Like Alastor feels comfortable enough to pull this shit.

Which I do also fine this reponce intresting becuase party guy got stabed a bunch and lu gets a stain. ( Yes I realize actually jumping lu would be frowned apon but still this is tame.)

Now it is true Lu like party guy is trying to push Alastor out of the space. It is note worthy that Lu's argument is Alastor isn't doing shit which he's not, he's not becuase he's wounded and Lu doesn't know that. Lu is not comeing at him for being a sinner or anything though I'm sure it reminded him of the party.

The outher irony is that Alastor spilling his drink on Lu is conveying the same message party guy was conveying to Al. I can do what ever the fuck I want and you can't stop me.

Also between Lu and Alastor, Al does have all the power. Lu litterly cant hurt him though we don't know if he knew that at the time.

Charlie confert Alastor vs Lucifer

First noteable diffrents is of corse motive. We know Alastor goes to stuport Charlie explicitly to make a deal with her. It is a transactional uplifting. That being said he dose need her to genuinly feel better and more confident like thats his job (for Rosie) he is still trying to cheer her up.

Lu wants her to feel better because he cares. He is trying to do the job of being a parent which is something he hasn't done alot of.

Second off Alastor is comeing into her space while Lu is bringing her into his. This is symbolic of Lu being vonrable in this moment.

Lu validates that Charlie has alot going on

Alastor pokes at her haveing alot going on. I do think to him this is a from of validation. He is eventually like you picked a fight with heaven and now your just going to curl up and die come on.

Side note "I'm just as bad as the cruelest overlord" to Alastor is a crazy stament.

She asks both of them how they do it. Lu how he deals with the stress of ruling and Al how he seems to find everything so amusing. She is essentially asking them both how they cope.

Alastor is the one who gives a real answer. He gives the smile speech which she finds genuinly useful. That you don't have to actually be feeling it in order for you to suport your friends you can do it scared. It's not perfect of corse he is telling her to hide her feelings but, you know she does need to porject confidence some times and it is to a degree empowering to know you can do that scared. She does convince the resents of cannibal town to follow her with that advice. (Which agin is part of his job for Rosie at the time.)

Lu gives a non answer "I just manage" which reasonably frustrates Charlie "I wish mom where here".

Becuse Lu despite opening up more, despite wanting to help won't give the advice she actually needs.

They do have a heart to heart but Charlie makes it more about him than her. This is the thing Husk had labeled as Charlie's problem in season 1. She trys to fix everyone so she doesn't have to fix herself.

After that they both do something pratical. Alastor offers the information for his deal. The information is the thing Charlie actually needs. Lu has Charlie do deep breath which does seem to help in the moment.

They both end with positive reinforcement "show must go on" and "good girl"

Lu does also insure Charlie that she's accomplished alot and that she can do this which is helpful to her. It's not advice but it is reinsurance.

Now after both of there sceens Charlie gets more advice in s1 from Rosie and s2 from Vaggi.

However after Alastor's pep talk she remains more stable. This is likely from having a real workable plan he actually helped form. In s2 after this we see her begin to spiral more and more out of control and if anything Lu telling her shes ready for this when she's clearly not and needs help back fires. She becomes to independent to the detrement of thoughs around her and herself. Vaggi is the one who eventually snaps her out of it.

Basically Lu is well meaning but is help isn't thag helpful. Alastor isn't even trying and ends up providing the stability she needs.

I think this really highlights the expectations THEY were raised on.

Lucifer does basically just say “well, you just gotta!” And, tragically, it is so incredibly reflective of that perfection that heaven demands. You have to be okay because there’s no other option! (The other option was him being cast out of heaven!)

He was MADE to be perfect. So he just has to be!

So that is the ONLY advice he can give her.

Whereas Alastor was HUMAN. He was, at least presumably, allowed to make mistakes. Just… probably not in public what with him being POC during Jim Crow.

So that’s the advice that he gives. The advice he had heard all his life. “Feel whatever you need to feel but! Let them think you’re okay!” (The fake it til you make it approach.)

And it all comes back to that pesky concept of free will.

Alastor has never known his life or afterlife without it (save for the deal).

Lucifer wasn’t meant to have free will, he was meant to do his creators will, without comment or questions. He was meant to be perfect, forever and always!

And we see this with Sera! That she always has to be perfect! She’s only just realizing that she’s allowed to be wrong. That just because she was (presumably) made fully formed, she’s allowed to learn and grow!

Whereas with Emily, she’s around humans all the time! She has seen that people are allowed to be wrong, that it isn’t the end of the world.

Which is a whole lot of words to basically say that I agree with you!

Lu isn’t helpful, his advice causes her to spiral (just like he does!). He hasn’t learned how to cope in a healthy manner, so he can’t show her how to.

Alastor at least can give advice more in line with what she needs, that human understanding of mistakes and that sometimes you fail but you just have to grin and bear it and keep pushing forward.

But you’re also right that it’s Rosie and Vaggi who actually talk Charlie down when she needs it.

Rosie gives the motherly advice we see her craving during the whole of the show.

But Vaggi knows her best and is able to give both advice and to comfort her. Is able to work with her. Because Vaggi reminds her that they are a team!
