*FACEPALM* Okay, so, I’ve been re-reading the entire Yugioh Manga for the first time since I was a teen (So it’s been over a decade), and I’m noticing things I never picked up on when I was younger. Like, that Yami was still injured when he fought Ushio (No magical healing powers like in Season 0). But mostly that he got “dressed up” for the occasion… because Yugi was basically in his PJs when he solved the Puzzle in the manga.

He also did arts and crafts but I’ll get to that.

They’re…literally enormous ankhs on belts. This is not something that any person would actually own. I sort of assume that Grandpa Mutou the Egypt buff had the ankhs themselves lying around and Yami Yugi scrounged them up and…did this.

Atem really just woke up in medias res in a scenario where he owed someone approximately five times his mass and known to be violent two thousand dollars and was like fine, I can handle this, then cast around and realized he had no bracelets, arm bands, neck cuffs, earrings, no hair ornamentation of any kind, not so much as a pot of kohl, and somehow did not know where to get any of these things, and was like, this is going to take all of my tactical and creative ability to solve. And then he got out the hot glue gun.

i was taught growing up that egyptian children would all be given ankh to wear at their wrists, over the pulse point, to keep their lives in and hostile spirits out while they were young and vulnerable, so i sort of saw those as an apotropaic defense measure

Things I think about quarantined: In a vlog I follow they asked if Atem / Yugi, being naturally good in any type of game, would be good in any type of universe, for example; Pokemon.

Obviously that pair of fools would love Pokemon, but it made me think of a curious thing: how they would react to a certain type of pokemon.

The most obvious example: how our Atem would react when seeing cofagrigus. Atem, an ancient Pharaoh watching a living sarcophagus fight and "use magic"

I imagine that he would be ANNOYED, because he would seriously think that cofagrigus is a spirit of a pharaoh like him, that for some reason his spirit did not transfer to the afterlife and now they are "forcing" him to fight so that he does not rest. It would be like "WHY ARE YOU DISTURBING HIS SOUL, BASTARD!?" * season 0 soundtrack playing in the background *

Fun Fact: So in Ancient Egypt they used to shave their heads and wear wigs (this wasn't a super uncommon practice for rich people in different parts of the world, they did this in Greco-Rome too).

So. Atem doesn't comprehend that Yuugi's ridiculous hair isn't a wig. Yuugi, being a modern ho like the rest of the world, just uses ungodly amounts of hairspray. Atem does not understand this.

Yuugi is very, very scarred for life when he watches Atem buzz his own short hair off before asking where to get wigs.

Yuugi promptly rings Anzu/Tea because he can't handle this.

Atem: "Wait....yours isn't a wig?"

Yuugi: "Yours is??!?!"

Fifteen minutes later:

Anzu: Alright, I'm here so Atem needs help right?

Yuugi, at the table where he set himself face down: He's in the living room.

Atem: Anzu! Yuugi said you might know where to find wigs!

Anzu: I...might be able to help.

Atem: Wonderful! I just need to grab my wallet.

Anzu: Yuugi, why the hell is he shiny?

Yuugi: He used all our olive oil and Grandpa's still cursing me out.

Anzu: Did he roll in it?!?!

Yuugi: I don't know and if he tells you don't tell me.

Second Fun fact: Rich people in that day and age often covered themselves with oils and sometimes bathed in them.
